Branford house description
Our four year old home is perched on the tidal Farm River, close to the open Long Island Sound. The open first floor plan with a roomy, well appointed kitchen opens out onto a large wrap-around deck looking out on spectacular coastal river views. A floating dock provides access for great kayaking, canoing and swimming. Four bedrooms and five beds offer very comfortable accommodations for seven.
Located in the family-friendly shore village of Short Beach, it's a 15-minute drive from Yale and easy rail access to NYC. A 5-minute walk brings you to a lovely association beach, trails in two areas of conservation land, a family restaurant, and a chance to ride restored electric trolleys.

My wife and I along with our 93 year young Aunt rented this unique property while visting our son and his family in nearby Guilford. While we spent time with the grandkids our Aunt enjoyed spending the day on the large deck watching wildlife and boaters. The large modern kitchen and gas bbq were very handy for preparing meals. This award winning "Green" home had a rustic feel and was very comfortable. We were also pleased that we had no electric bill as solar roof panels provided electricity to the grid. We found the location was perfect for us to take a nearby train to NYC to visit another son. We recommend this property to all!

About the owner: Nancy and I coordinated the building of this dream home and are thrilled with the beauty of the waterfront site, the terrific performance and aesthetics of this green home.
Why the Owner Chose Branford:
I grew up swimming, fishing, boating and clamming on this wonderful river. We continue to rent a tiny cottage a short paddle downriver at the mouth of this River every summer. 15 minutes from Yale, it feels like Maine!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We live on the wrap-around deck in the summer. Sparking water, great swimming, ever-changing water views, tremendous light in this home. Tremendous natural ventilation means we only turn on the AC units a couple of times a summer!
