Our renovated (March, 2005), ocean view Harbor Island villa with brand new sleeper sofa and super-comfy queen-sized bed, is located on the 2nd floor with easy access to the elevator. Harbor Island is less than a mile down the road from Hunting Island. Our condo is adjacent to the pool, so you can watch your children play from the screened-in porch (see pictures).

The master bedroom features a queen-size heavenly bed with pillow top, feather bed, and luxurious sheets. The living room futon converts to a full/double-size bed. All bed linens and towels are provided.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, microwave, toaster, oven, etc. for the chef in your family. Please see additional amenities below.

The unit is situated in Beachhouse Villas, a private, gated community with 24-hour security. A two-minute walk from our unit takes you to the 3-mile private beach (which is never crowded) or to the fitness center in the lower level of the Beach Cabana Club. The club property features a large pool with four tennis courts. A putting green is nearby.

Come share our villa for a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Shift into a lower gear, bring your binoculars if you're a birdwatcher, relax and enjoy!

***Harbor Island***

Harbor Island, 14 miles east of highly acclaimed Beaufort, SC., and less than 1 mile down the road from Hunting Island, is a protected estuary habitat filled with wildlife and beautiful plant life. It is part of the 350,000-acre ACE Basin National Estuarine Research Reserve (ACE Basin NERR), created and managed by the Marine Resources Division of South Carolina. The private island sits on the edge of the biologically rich Saint Helena's Sound. In this habitat, you will be surrounded by live oaks, slash pines, and cabbage palmettos.

The ACE Basin Refuge lies along the Atlantic Flyway - the 'bird highway in the sky.' Numerous waterfowl, shore birds, neo-tropical songbirds and birds of prey migrate from their nesting grounds to wintering areas throughout eastern North America.

The painted bunting, egrets and herons are in abundance here. Many endangered species such as the peregrine falcon, Canby's dropwort, chaffseed, hawksbill turtle, leatherback turtle, red-cockaded woodpecker, shortnose sturgeon, West Indian manatee, and wood stork live in the ACE Basin. Six, federally-threatened species (i.e. bald eagle, Eastern indigo snake, green turtle, American alligator, loggerhead turtle, and piping plover) have also been observed in the area.

Ocean Wildlife - The ocean is teeming with wildlife - American oysters, blue crabs, fiddler crabs, grass shrimps, hard clams, white shrimps, living sand dollars, horseshoe crabs, and porpoise, according to the National Estuarine Research Reserve.

At certain times of the year, you will share the ocean water with glowing green phosphorescent plankton or loggerhead sea turtles. (Don't forget to Help Save Our Turtles - lights off on the beach at night between May 1 and September 1). A sighting of a leatherback turtle, the largest living turtle species, occurred last year on Hunting Island, the next island over.

Fishing - If you are interested in fishing - the 1120-foot, former Paradise Pier is now part of Hunting Island State Park, the last island boundary in the ACE Basin chain. Fishermen have tried their luck and caught Atlantic croaker, bay anchovy, black drum, largemouth bass, red drum, shortnose sturgeon, Southern flounder, spot, spotted sea trout, striped bass, and striped mullet.

***Nearby Hunting Island***

Local Attractions Hunting Island is home to the historic Hunting Island lighthouse that was in operation until 1933. Originally constructed in 1859 and rebuilt in 1875 after the Civil War, 167 steps and 50 cents will take you to the top for a fabulous view. It is only two miles away from our unit.

***Beaufort***

Time to go out on the town? Beaufort provides a delightful backdrop. First inhabited by native Americans and then the Spanish in the 1500s, historical areas are every where. Antebellum homes from before the Civil War border the waterfront as do great restaurants and a small park and marina. Beaufort also hosts a thriving artists community and it is only 14 miles away! An hour or so drive will take you to Savannah or Charleston, beautiful southern cities that make great day trips.

Stop at Publix on your way out of Beaufort. It is on the left after you cross Lady's Island bridge over the intercoastal waterway once you go through downtown Beaufort on Route 21. Or, stop at Gay's Seafood (on the right) before you cross the Harbor River Bridge across from the famous (featured in Coastal Living) Shrimp Shack.

We had a wonderful relaxing holiday. Everything was as we expected, the condo was clean and although basic met all our needs. My one complaint was that the futon was not very comfortable. Our little dog, Tetley, really enjoyed the screened balcony, keeping an eye on all the comings and goings. The restaurant we enjoyed the most was the Dockside, great fish platter. We visited Hunting Island State Park several times, my husband enjoyed fishing off of the pier. I took Tetley for long walks along the beautiful beach most days, our favourite activity. A great winter escape, Thank You from the three of us.

Owner response: Thanks so much for your feedback, and I'm glad you enjoyed the beach. I've been searching for a sleeper sofa for the living room, but have yet to find one that's both stylish and comfortable. I will definitely have a new one, though, by the end of this year, and most likely sooner. Thanks again, Sheila Dunn

We had such a wonderful vacation. The condo is well-furnished, convenient to the beach and pool and has a wonderful view. Watching the moon rise each evening from the screen porch was breathtaking. If I had not known in advance, I wouldn't have been able to tell that pets are allowed. This is our 6th annual trip to Harbor Island but the first time we've used this condo. We'll definitely be using it again.

Condo had been vacant for awhile and was initially 'musty' on arrival. Open patio doors, turned up A/C and it was fine within 30 minutes. Condo is comfortable with 'cute' ammenities. Bed is very comfortable and linens were of good quality - excellent sleep! There is a large variety of pots, pans and dinnerware, however most of the pots & pans were not clean with foodstuff residue remaining of pots & pans that may have been through the dishwasher, but were not properly cleaned. 30 Minutes of fussin & cussin and all was well. The condo is 'pet friendly' with bedding for small dogs and for cats available in the closet. Neighbors are 'pet friendly' as well with many furry families enjoying the quiet. Area is remote, plan 20-25 minute drive back to shopping - bonus is the quiet enjoyment of a beautiful beach area and nearby state park. Everyone we met on the beach and within the community was friendly, smiling and relaxed. Very low-key community - perfect for recharging in the quiet. Transaction handled flawlessly by agent. Would eagerly return for another respite.

Owner response: Thanks for your comments about L206. I’ve asked our cleaning crew to double check items that they remove from the dishwasher and put in the cabinets, to be sure that the dishwasher didn’t miss anything. We’ll also leave the AC on when there are no guests to keep the air circulating and fresh. Glad to hear you enjoyed our little piece of paradise, despite the initial inconvenience. Thanks again for sharing your comments- it really helps us keep improving our guest house.

I took my girlfriend to Harbor island for her birthday weekend. My only compliant is that we couldn't stay longer. The condo was excellent. Although we do not have pets, we could not tell any animals had stayed in the condo. It was clean, beautiful and spacious. Harbor Island/Hunting Island are the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. We were pleasantly surprise with the beach on Harbor Island, we were on the beach at 3pm on a Saturday and were sharing the beach with maybe 15 people. The pass to Hunting Island was a very nice touch (A note about Hunting Island, the lighthouse in now $2 per person instead of the 50 cent listed in earlier comments. Well worth $2 in my opinion). I also noted in reviews for restaurants complained of the price of meals, etc. I did not see this. The General Store/Big Cheezy Pizza and Johnson Creek Tavern were excellent. If you visit Harbor Island, do yourself a favor and go see Mike and the guys at Big Cheezy. Great food at a great price and very friendly staff. All in all, a great weekend and next year will definately be a week long trip.

L-206 was like being at home! We just loved it there! It has the most amazing screened in porch with possibly the best view in the building! We ate every single meal out there! Our dog and our daughter both loved it! Our dog loved the pet bed and the porch as well. The condo felt like home! The beach is amazing. The use of two pools is great! We loved using them both so much! The use of the Hunting Island pass was convenient and a very nice perk! The beach at Hunting is quite different than Harbor so it was really nice to do both. Plus Hunting is gorgeous! Very tropical and something to see, lots of wildlife. We also spent an evening in downtown Beaufort for the Water festival and that was really fun. Beaufort was a beautiful town full of fascinating history. It was worth the trip. We cannot wait to go back there again! I have never been to a place more relaxing and peaceful than Harbor Island. It is quiet and serene. There is such a bounty of natural surroundings to explore and appreciate. If you are looking for a real vacation that the whole family can go on, this is the place! We could not have been happier! The condo was very neat and clean with most of the amenities of home. The washer and dryer down the hall were quite accessible and accomodating. It was very welcoming to our dog as well. The condo pool was directly below the unit and it was a very short walk to the Beach and Raquet Club where the large community pool is. The pools were clean and with plenty of deck chairs. The walk to the beach was short as well, just over the dune. The beach off our boardwalk was very clean, not crowded. The water was warm and inviting. There was lots to see and appreciate. We especially loved watching the dolphins that would swim by close to shore. We found plenty of shells, crabs and birds to keep us entertained on the beach as well. My daughter enjoyed watching the fish jumping out of the water at times too. It was a perfect vacation....paradise! We cannot wait to get back there!

We were looking for a quiet retreat and that is just what we got. It was the busiest holiday week of the year and I think we could have counted the number of people on the beach. It was so UNcrowded. The dunes were beautiful, the beach was quiet and calm, the property was convenient to good restaurants and fresh seafood. The condo had everything we needed. Loved the fact that we could bring our sweet dog, Hazel. We would definitely go back. Hope to next year!

Nice accomodations, enjoyed our stay. Will certainly plan to visit again. Unit had a good ocean view, was clean, quite and we were allowed to bring our small dog. It had good lighting in the living area, which was a plus because I am a cross stitcher, so I sat up by the side window and it was perfect. Would recommend this property to friends.

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: Several years ago when I purchased the condo on Harbor Island, I made the decision to make it pet-friendly. Heck, we even provide dog/cat beds, food bowls, and a polaroid camera to leave pictures behind on our 'pet board'. Some of my friends and business advisors said I was crazy to allow pets because they would ruin the unit. Well, the exact opposite has happened. People that can't imagine going away without their pets and have chosen L206 have been the most pleasant guests I've ever experienced. The cute pictures left behind and the notes about how much their 4-legged friends enjoyed the beach are priceless. Thanks for visiting!

Why the Owner Chose Hunting Island:
Harbor Island is one of the last places on earth where you can roam the beach and not encounter any others - well, maybe several starfish, great shore birds, and dolphins swimming along with you as you're walking. I also love the fact that Harbor Island is a reserve for sea turtles and other endangered species.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
L-206 has one of the best ocean views of any condo on Harbor Island. Located a few steps away from the elevator, there's no need to lug heavy bags up and down the steps. If you cook, you'll appreciate the new kitchen appliances and high end pots and pans. The pillow top mattress on the queen size bed is incredibly comfortable and the towels are big and fluffy. We provide two bicycles so you can cruise around the low country. Enjoy!
