A mere ten minute walk to the Historic Town Center of bucolic West Tisbury, this home away from home provides a large dose of privacy and well being. The house sits on an open acre of sunny yard surrounded by tall pines. Take your morning coffee on the back deck, and want to stay there forever watching birds, bunnies and butterflies. At the end of the day, wash off salt and sand from a fun day at the beach in your own, private, hot-water shower outdoors. It's part of our true Vineyard magic.
Privacy like this is hard to find so conveniently located. The nearby Town Center offers gallery hopping, gourmet take-out, a lovely white steeple church and the eclectic Island landmark of Alley's General Store where you can find anything you need. The Island's best Farmer's Market and Artisans Fair are there as well. Also nearby are bike paths, conservation land, a fitness center, a popular coffee shop and the island's best pizza. Even a nightclub is only 3 miles away.
An exclusive beach pass gets you onto one of the most beautiful of all our Island beaches. Lambert's Cove Beach is a white sand, crescent beach. It is a swimmer's haven with luxuriously soft sand and magnificent sunsets, and really great for kids. Other great swimming and beach options are also close by.

My husband and I and my brother's family rented this house together. We had three children between us. This house is perfect if you have children ( or if you don't). While you are not right on a beach, you are more or less equal driving distances from many great beaches. There are great restaurants and delis as well as farmer's markets right around the corner. The house is charming but not over the top fancy... A fact that we loved. The yard is huge. There is a great fire pit and hammock. It is the perfect spot if you want peace and quiet and a little distance from the tourist business and traffic. Our host was helpful and accommodating. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

This is the tenth year we have chosen this home in West Tisbury for our annual summer vacation in Martha's Vineyard because Harriet the owner is so wonderful and welcoming. From the beginning, she has made us feel like Vineyard insiders, giving us the scoop on the best beaches, music concerts and art openings. The house is open and clean, and far enough off the road that traffic noise is not an issue, even when President Obama's motorcade passes by. We have small children who accompany us and there is a half acre back yard that is private and safe for them to play. Best of all, the property is within walking distance of our favorite hiking trail: Sepiessa Point; our favorite market: Alley's General Store; and our favorite source of fresh vegetables and baked goods: the weekly West Tisbury Farmers Market. We have found that the price is more than reasonable, so we highly recommend this warm home for your next visit to Martha's Vineyard.Recommended for: Families with young children.

We had a wonderful week at The Red Hat! The beautiful grounds/gardens are so relaxing -- perfect for small children or quiet R&R after a day at the beach. The central location in West Tisbury is very convenient, whether you want to enjoy the picturesque up-island towns/beaches or head down island for shopping, restaurants and the like. The house was very clean and well maintained. Stocked with all the necessities in good working order. We would absolutely recommend this rental.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The grounds are lovely. I like curling up with a book on a lounger in the backyard. Bunnies and Butterflies! I REALLY love being up island and so close to the best beaches. The house has always been clean, layed out well and well organized. It's a very relaxing to vacation here.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: The Vineyard was our family vacation every summer of my childhood. The island drew me back for a visit and I never left! I started The Red Hat Bed and Breakfast, which was soon a popular success. After 12 happy years as an inn keeper, I decided to get myself out of the house a bit. And so, The Red Hat is now available for weekly summer rental. During winter months, I keep my hand in writing... I review honeymoon destinations in exotic places. Very fun.
Why the Owner Chose West Tisbury:
West Tisbury is 'Up Island' which is the more rural part of the island, but never too far from the action of 'Down Island' with its famous carousel and nightlife. West Tisbury is like the Berkshires surrounded by beach. This town is convenient to everything on the island, and has the most diverse swimming options -- Bay, Ocean, Pond. Known for its rich farmland, it is also where most of the island writers and artists live. For this it is called the 'Athens' of the island.

I love being up-island, the more rural part of the island. And i love having so much open yard around me. My property is surrounded by gorgeous tall trees. It's very soothing, quiet and visually restful. It's also very near the eclectic island icon, alley's general store where you can find almost anything. Most convenient!!
