Conveniently located, standing tall and overlooking Lake Huron and its beauty, Top o’ the Rock provides guests with 3 stories of comfort. We just finished a successful 2013 season. Guests can book at 2013 rates until 12/31/13 for 2014 vacations. Come feel the warmth and love that was built into this home. Top o’ the Rock boasts 4 bedrooms including sleeping loft, 2 living rooms, dining room, 2.5 bathrooms, large kitchen, and 3 stories of decks overlooking Lake Huron. From the 3rd floor Captain's quarters to Snow Beach, the Top o' the Rock experience will bring enjoyment for a quiet get away or a family reunion. View the freighters from the Captains Quarters or decks from each of the floors. The ferry ride from Cheboygan starts the Bob-Lo experience.
Walk to the waterfront for swimming and boating. New kayaks and adult bicycles are stored on site, for touring the island on land or sea.
The ground floor of Top o’ The Rock conveniently hosts all of your entertaining needs. Modern kitchen, large dining area (seats 10), living area with large flat screen TV for your viewing pleasure, half bath, laundry services, and even a lighthouse on the deck; all serve to complete the first floor.
The second floor provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere for games, conversation, reading or just taking a nap. The living room with its 2 seating areas and wet-bar, bedroom and full bathroom are encapsulated by 12” walls, providing guests with the rustic Adirondack charm that can only be found in uniquely crafted log homes. Guests will note the owners love for the sea as they experience nautical artifacts and symbols throughout. Decks and comfortable furniture surround the East and Southern sides of the home, and the second floor deck has been screened in for insect free living.
The third floor stands taller than any other Boblo home, and has breathtaking views of Lake Huron from its deck. The deck is also the perfect place to view wildlife, passing ships and nature at its best. The sliding doors provide walls of glass in the final 2 bedrooms. The full bath and sleeping loft open to a 2 story view with vaulted ceiling and, of course, nautical charm at every corner. The evening ferry canal lights of Cheboygan in the distance provide nautical ambience.
Top o’ The Rock is known for its palatial size and bright red roof, which can be seen on clear days from the Cheboygan ferry channel. Nicknamed “Pizza Hut” by Cheboygan tourists spotting the red roof in the distance, Top o’ the Rock is waterfront property that provides swimming and boating pleasures that guests prefer. The island provides boating rentals and public launch facilities; contact information can be provided to interested guests.

Owner response: We are glad that this family enjoyed the home. We work hard to insure that guests have the comfort necessary to make their vacation the best possible. Each year we update the home to keep it fresh for new and returning guests. Thanks Robin!
Great deal for the money
Great deal for the money
We just finished a week at the "cabin". We had such a relaxing time that we hated to leave. This was perfect for us. We were looking for a place to relax and just sit back and watch the waves crashing into the shore and listen to them from our bed at night. Everything you'd need for your stay is included. We loved kayaking and playing in the water and sitting on the enclosed 2nd story deck in the morning with a cup of coffee looking out over the lake. I'm not sure we'd bring small children here because there really isn't any yard for them to play in, but for my wife and I and our 13yr old daughter it was just what we needed. You have to remember this is a log cabin in the woods, so there are going to be some bugs and spiders so if you're accustomed to a Mariott maybe this isn't the place for you. If you love nature, lakes, wildlife, you'll love it here. For us, it was just what we expected and we hope to go back next year. Robin kept us informed every step of the way and all the way through our stay. Anne was there, and very friendly, if we had any questions. The islanders couldn't be any more friendly. The tavern is two doors down. Really good food and don't forget to tell them you're first timers on the island for your "first timers shot". Getting to the island is a breeze on the ferry. We took our car over and for the 3 of us and the car it was $107 roundtrip. Less than what we were expecting to pay. Mackinac Island is a short plane ride, 6 mintues, away. For the 3 of us to fly there and back was $210. The look on our daughters face getting in the plane was worth the money alone. I'm sure this place isn't for everybody, but it was perfect for us. Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us Robin

We stayed one week for our family vacation. We had the best time. We did go to snow beach everyday. We all used the Kayaks, swam and the kids played on the sandy beach. The last day was the best for waves. We think 2 1/2 to 3 footers. We did bring along 5 boogie boards and 5 inner tubes so we all had plenty to play with. We did not have a Quad or small 4 wheel drive, so if you do bring it. We would have liked to explore a little more but couldn't get our Silverado down some of the trails. We all slept well and had lots of room. The home is so beautiful. I did like the house off the road because of the dry summer we are having, the dust didn't make it to the house so easily. The people at the tavern were all helpful and Hawks Landing also. Thanks to Plaunts ferry service, they took our flat tire over to the mainland and had it fixed and back the next day on the 10am ferry. The locals are so very friendly and we received lots of helpful information. We did get to just relax. It is peaceful, we saw wildlife outside on the deck. We saw not only stars but the UFO. No as we found out the next day on the news, they were only heat sensors used that night by the Air National Guard for training purposes. Caused alot of excitement. Robin is so very wellcoming and was so easy to disscuss any questions we had. Thank you again, Robin and John.

If seclusion but comfort is what you're looking for, this is the place! We didn't know what to expect, as we'd never been to Bois Blanc before. Before we even had the cars unloaded, we were met by Ann, the caretaker. Very, very friendly and helpful. Ann offered advice as to swimming and fishing areas, as well as where to eat and some helpful hints about the home itself. Top 'O the Rock is absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. Our goup consisted of four adults and four kids (teens), and there was plenty of room for all of us. We've rented from VRBO several times over the last four years, and it always seems like the kitchen is under-supplied. Not the case here. We stayed in for most of our meals, and all the cookware we could have possibly wanted was there. Robin, the owner, was accessible by e-mail and was in touch with me during the week to make sure everything was up to our standards. Regarding the island, really a neat place. Lots and lots of trails to explore - but don't take your mini-van on the trails (speaking from experience!). Beautiful clean water all around the island. Super friendly residents, especially Barb at the Tavern, and the folks that run the store (Hawk's Landing). The only small problem was the abundance of horse flies, but I think you'll run into that anywhere in northern Michigan. Saw plenty of deer and a few turkeys. Really enjoyed our time there. Thanks Robin!

Pefect & Peaceful Great Lake Adventure
Pefect & Peaceful Great Lake Adventure
I stayed at "Top of the Rock" in July 2011 and loved every minute of our time there. My hope in visiting Bois Blanc, was to have a true week in the wilderness, away from from the commercial clutter that plagues so many vacation spots. BUT, I also wanted to have creature comforts to keep certain members of my family(i.e. my wife) happy. Top of the Rock and Bois Blanc gave me both. Bois Blanc is truly a wild place. Trees, water, rocks and trails are the main attraction. You can see the Milky Way at night and the only paved road is the runway at the tiny airport. There's no shopping, fast food, boat tours or vintage fudge shops. The island was everything we hoped for. Top of the Rock was big, beautiful and perfect for our two families (4 adults, 4 kids). It's 3-story design offered great views and privacy when needed but it's big public rooms gave us places to hang out as a big group. Amenities were modern and plentiful and included bathrooms on every floor, satelite TV, modern kitchen, two big decks and incredible views. The owners were super-helpful and gave us great directions on getting to Mackinac for a daytrip (charter a flight!), bringing supplies (grocery shop BEFORE you get there & bring watershoes) and getting around the island (remember to wave to the friendly locals). They also were a huge help in finding a pack-n-play on the island for us to use for the 2-year old in our group. I would recommend Top of the Rock to anyone who truly wants to spend some peaceful time in the wild and is looking for a modern, comfortable, beautiful cabin in a spectacular and wild place.

Not as Expected
Not as Expected
The owner of this home was very personable and professional in her correspondence and all business transactions were handled as expected. Unfortunately, the property was not up to our standards for cleanliness and we did not feel it was quite as advertised. Probably the biggest difference is that (in our opinion) it is not waterfront nor beachfront. There IS a distant view of the lake, but only on very clear days and overlooking some unsightly buildings and recreational vehicles. The owner assured me all of our sanitary concerns were addressed after our visit, and I hope that's true. We dealt with mice (droppings on silverware and linens), excessive bird droppings on all outdoor surfaces, and what can only be called an infestation of spiders, especially on the outside of the home; every window was covered with webs and spiders. We also encountered a Massasauga rattlesnake very close to the home, which of course isn't the fault of the owner, but we felt we should have been warned of the possibility of encountering venomous snakes, as we have 3 small children. This was a disappointing experience for us, but perhaps our expectations were too high. Again, the owner was very professional in her correspondence, and assured me the problems could have been corrected immediately if we had contacted the caretaker during our stay. Hopefully future renters will have a better experience.

Owner response: As the owner, I was perhaps more disappointed with this experience. I work diligently to staff the management of the property and supply the home to meet the tenants needs. In turn I am confident that the property will be taken care of, and any problems be communicated to me. The islanders that support the home take their jobs seriously. The tenant abandoned the property, contacting me only after they returned home, stating that gushing water was coming from the kitchen pipes, and demanding a refund. Instantly I summoned the plumber and the manager who entered the property and did not find the basis for the complaints. They are my eyes for this property and can mitigate any issue on site. If this family did experience an unwelcomed guest, then it also should have been communicated. Boblo Island is in the Upper Peninsula, not the Amazon. I have asked numerous islanders about their awareness of this creature on Boblo and they responded that they have never seen one. Not to say that this tenant was mistaken, but again, it could have been identified at the time. Animal control exists everywhere and can be managed effectively. The wildlife on the island is very beautiful. The orchard East of the home attracts deer and other species. If the interior or exterior of the property requires maintenance then PLEASE contact our manager. That is her job, which she takes seriously, and she will graciously assist tenants. As a property owner I cannot control insects, and spiders do exist on the island. During summer months the climate adds more of the creatures, and if they are significant then the property manager can take the steps to reduce them. There are longer term sprays which can also be applied. The second floor deck is screened for the 2012 season. Tenants should be prepared to enjoy their stay and leave their troubles on the mainland, not bring them over on the ferry. Prior to your vacation, prepare to spend quality family time together, and leave your to-do list at home. The home was built back from the main road for privacy. The island limestone can become airborn in dry months, and tenants will not have to experience that. The waters edge is at the end of the property, which makes it waterfront, allowing tenants to swim and kayak just steps from the home; no cars required. Our pictures display the distance from the decks to the water. I disagree with the tenants perception of view, as the views and Lake Huron waves are very relaxing.

About the owner: My husband and I wish to retire in the area, and until that time, we wish to have others share in the joy of Bois Blanc Island. The house was built for me by a relative who paid attention to detail in every aspect of this gorgeous home. The inspiration came from a dream to retire on the water and was designed on a bar napkin at Hawk's Landing.
Why the Owner Chose Bois Blanc Island:
Lake Huron is spectacular, and provides the calm and serenity of the ocean experience. The Ferry and Boblo's people complete the experience.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This property is waterfront, which provides the complete island experience for your family and guests. This log home was uniquely designed, and the 2 story living room is spectacular. This home is walking and biking distance to restaurants and the ferry, and the beach is the end of the driveway! Nature is found in the backyard, as the orchard nearby draws the deer and wildlife. The walking trails were created for the explorers in the group.
