Relax on your front porch in one of our 10 traditional wooden rockers as you watch the waves roll in or take in the nightly band concert at the gazebo. Park your car and put the keys away. Everything you could want to do is right outside your front door. No need to walk a long way or drive to the beach, step out the door and feel the sand between your toes.

York Manor is a unique property housing a two bedroom condo, an ocean view studio/efficiency with its own entrance located in the main building, and a charming Victorian era one bedroom cottage.

Your beachfront condo is located in a historic Victorian home, one of the last vestiges of a time gone by. Recently updated with a new kitchen, two bedrooms and panoramic views of the beach and bold Atlantic coast your condo is the perfect place to put your feet up and relax. This is Maine; this is “The Way Life Should Be”!

The studio/efficiency has its own entrance and overlooks York Beach. A full-size bed and sofa sleeper complete the sleeping accommodations. Perfect for a small family or up to four guests. The efficiency-sized galley kitchen has everything you need to feel right at home. Two burner cooktop; no oven, but who wants to cook when you have great restaurants right out the door.

At the rear of the property is a charming one bedroom cottage with additional sleeping accommodations in the living room. Sleeps four in a full-sized bed in the bedroom and two day beds in the livinging room. The 'Diane' has its own porch for a quiet evening or join the other guests on the front porch in one of our classic wooden rockers.

Start your day with a panoramic view of the ocean from your front window as you watch the sun come up over the ocean horizon. If you are like us you might take a stroll on the beach, walk downtown for the morning paper, and come back just in time to head for the beach. Maybe its lunch at The Goldenrod. After lunch its back to the beach again, it's only about 100 ft. from your door. After dinner sit on the porch in your favorite rocker, make new friends, share a bottle of wine, relax, and enjoy the serenity of listening to the waves as the sun sets. If you feel like a little night life you might want to walk about 200 ft down Ocean Ave. to Inn on the blues for some great music.

Short Sands Beach is rated one of the 10 best family beaches by Parents Magazine, and for good reason. This is a clean, environmentally friendly beach, with modern rest rooms, lifeguards, and plenty of great beach toys. Enjoy the beachfront playground or take in a pick-up basketball game while you picnic on the grassy park. Bring your Frisbee and Whiffle Ball & Bat.

Need a break from the beach? Stroll down the street to our quaint Victorian village, eat at the historic Goldenrod and watch their famous salt water kisses being made right in the window. Try your luck at the Fun-O-Rama where you will hear “Honey, win me that big stuffed bear.” Do you have a sweet tooth? Turn the corner and stop at Sweet Josie’s, our favorite candy store with real old-time penny candy, or buy some silver jewelry at the ever popular Bill & Bob's.

One more block and you’re at Maine’s only zoo, York’s Wild Animal Kingdom and Amusement Park where you can even ride an elephant!

Short Sands Beach has the natural beauty of an old fashioned New England Victorian seacoast town, with its sandy beach, two lighthouses, an amusement park and zoo, a bowling alley, penny arcade, boutiques and plenty of history. Great 'Down East' restaurants are within walking distance of your condo, all the lobster you can eat, art galleries, boating, fishing, and plenty of time to relax with your family.

For the art lover and history buff, York is one of the oldest towns in the country with nine historic house tours, and the country’s oldest jail “The Old Goal”. Art galleries abound. Take the Shore Road to Perkins Cove and the quaint village of Ogunquit, Maine’s first artists’ colony. While you’re there stop in at the Ogunquit Art Museum home of some of the best Maine artwork.

We are only one hour north of Boston, and 40 minutes from the historic seaport of Portland. In Portland you can take in a Sea Dogs baseball game or stroll around the historic Old Port for boutique shopping. Did someone say shopping? Kittery’s outlet shopping mecca is just five miles down the road.

For a day on the water try a cruise on the Finestkind and watch an authentic Maine lobsterman haul lobster. Deep sea fishing on the Ugly Anne, out of Perkins Cove, is a York Manor tradition.

And can you think of a better way to top off the day than stopping for a monster cone at Brown’s Ice Cream and then watching the waves break over the rocks at York’s famous “Nubble Light”?

Many of our guests have come back each year for over 20 years. Find out for yourself what they discovered years ago, York Manor is a hidden gem on the Maine Coast.

Every day is like a weekend when you stay at York Manor.

My husband and I along with our 3 year old daughter rented the oceanfront studio at York Manor. We had the most wonderful time here! It has a breathtaking view of the ocean. We loved that we were literally right across the street from the beach which made it so easy with a young child when she needed bathroom or snack break. There was also a playground across the street next to the beach where our daughter loved to play as well. Also we loved sitting out on the front porch or picnic table on the lawn listening to evening music being played across the street at the gazebo. And when we weren't at the beach it was an easy stroll down the street to the main street area with wonderful restaurants and shopping including the famous Goldenrod Taffy. This location was perfect for evening walks to get ice cream or snowcones! Wild Kingdom (amusement park and zoo) was within walking distance as well. It was just so convenient to find a nice place where we could easily walk to the beach and restaurant/entertainment venues! The owner was especially nice to work with. We got to meet several of the family members who own the place who were also staying there and they were so friendly and helpful. We would love to come back and visit again!

This was our first, but hopefully not our last, stay at York Manor. I can't think of anything this condo lacks, they weren't kidding about "just bring yourself." The view from the porch and upstairs at our condo can't be matched anywhere and we really enjoyed the band concerts. Our grandchildren live nearby and were there every day, enjoying the beach and the playground. We even had a sleepover with our granddaughter. The whole house was enjoyed by obviously family and long time visitors. We felt right at home. Highly recommend York Manor.

We had a wonderful time staying here! You can't beat the location which is within walking distance to everything. Every morning we'd wake up and drink our coffee in the family room which has a complete ocean view. We loved the unique charm of the house. The kitchen and bathroom are brand new since it was just remodeled. The kids had so much fun watching TV in their own bedroom, playing on the playground accross the street, running along the sand, playing in the ocean, and going to the amusement park. The owner of the condo was a pleasure to work with. This is an excellent place to stay for a family with kids.

Owner response: These guests discovered what we have known for many years. The Maine coast is a treasure and we were lucky enough to have a grandmother with the foresight to find this gem. York Manor has been a family compound for nearly 45 years now and we love sharing our breathtaking ocean front spot with new guests each season. Whether you stay in our two bedroom condo, our charming one bedroom cottage, or the ocean front studio, your stay will be just as enjoyable. Most guests come back year after year and have developed lifelong friendships, as their children grow up here each summer just as our children, and now our grandchildren, have done. This reviewer is from what we in Maine affectionately refer to as the “left coast”. Come and discover Maine; as the saying goes – “Maine, the way life should be”. There is no other place like it on either the “left” or “right” coast. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful stay at York Manor! The hosts were so gracious and hospitable. The condo is located directly across the street from the beach and the views are magnificent! We slept in the pull out bed in the living room and awoke each morning to the beautiful sunrise. Breakfast was at the table in front of the picture window overlooking the beach. The town is literally a five minute walk from the condo and there was much to do, including shops, restaurants, and fun things for the kids. While the beach is right out your front door, the larger beach is a short, five minute drive down the road and it was fabulous. We literally loved our stay at York Beach Manor so much that our 8 year old and 6 year old proclaimed that they want to live there! You cannot go wrong if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay that is close to everything. The bonus was the kind welcome we received from the owners!

My family has stayed at York Manor for over 25 years. The apartment is in a perfect location across from short sands beach with a beautiful view from the picture window. You can basically park your car and never have to leave the beach for the week. It's a great place to bring kids of all ages.

Owner response: Many of our guests have had the same experience, most return year after year, several for more than 20 years. One long time guest has been coming back every year for 40 years. We like to joke “she came with the property”! Sit on our porch in one of our classic wooden rockers, watch the waves roll in, listen to a band concert, or just enjoy the companionship of our other guests. Come once and you become like family. Our home was originally part of a grand old Victorian hotel complex. In those days they knew how to pick the best location; some condos may be newer, none have this location!

                      Year Purchased: 1970

About the owner: My Great Grammy bought York Manor 40 years ago with the idea this would always remain in our family. Now, after 40 years and four generations, I'm old enough to run on the beach by myself. I won my first prize at the Fun-O-Rama last year. My dad is teaching me to play Skee Ball. One of my favorite things, and sort of a family tradition, is going to lunch at The Goldenrod. Its pretty old, 1896, but the salt water kisses are really great. My dad and his brother really like the fudge. My cousin Lynne loves lobster, she always looks forward to going to one of the nice restaurants for a lobster dinner, there are plenty of those around. My dad says York Manor will always be a place to come home to, no matter where we live the rest of the year. I come here every year from London, it is worth the trip. I bet you will come back too.

Why the Owner Chose York Beach:
The location of York Manor can't be duplicated. It sits right at the center of Short Sands Beach, fronting Ellis Park and its Victorian Gazebo. Listening to the band concerts, having a picnic on the grass, or just sitting on our porch in one of our 10 classic wooden rockers will bring you back to a quieter, simpler time; a time to enjoy your family, just as we have done for the last 40 years. Most of our guests come back every year, some have come for 40 years in a row, through two generations. We have watched their children grow up and have children of their own. This is a family place, a lace you can always come home to. Once you stay here you will call it your own. You have probably heard this before, 'The old timers picked the best location.' Well, this is it! At the turn of the century York Manor was a dormitory for the chamber maids working at The Ocean House, one of the last remaining old wooden hotels dotting the Maine Coast. Unfortunately they are gone now replaced by cookie cutter condos, but the Victorian tradition lives on at York Manor. York Manor is close to everything but seems so far away, almost lost in time. We are just an hour from Boston but this is the 'real' Maine.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The porch! Watching the surf roll in or just people watching (you're likely to view one of the many weddings held at the gazebo) with the other guests. Lasting friendships have been made on this porch, most of our guests come back year after year, some for 40 years!
