This is my second rental of one of Enzo's apartments. I have also rented his place in Istanbul. He does a masterful job of coordinating visits. Both places are superbly located. This apartment is on a relatively quiet area but close to everything. It was very well equipped and felt almost like a private home even though it is a full time rental. Furniture and beds are not 5 star - lots of stuff that seems like IKEA maybe but very adequate. One thing I really like is that he returned my deposit via Paypal the same day we left. Very professional and reliable.

Excellent location walking distance to most sights except vatican city, close to subway and bus stops and one stop from train station. Very large for our family of 4 with very comfortable beds. The owner was very helpful and available all the time. One suggestion may be to replace the towels as they are all threadbare, kitchen and bathroom towels.
Owner response:Thanks for the suggestion: bathroom and kitchen towels have been replaced few days ago with new ones.

Well maintained apt right in the heart of all the tourist attractions. It looked as advertised and was very clean and well maintained. Enzo gave us tips on where to eat and the safety of the area (very safe!) I was totally comfortable walking around after dark alone in that area. We stayed with our two young girls and there was plenty of room for them to roam around in the evenings. We would stay there again in a heartbeat and I recommend the property to everyone I know that goes to Rome. Really, really great. Thanks Enzo!

My husband and I spent six nights at the Palazzo Grillo Apartment on Oct. 27 - Nov. 1. We both have some walking problems so the location of this apartment allowed us to walk to most of the tourist spots in Rome - the Colliseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Victor Emmanuel Memorial, the Forum, Palatine Hill, etc. The information and pictures given in the description were accurate. The property was clean and well-maintained. Enzo was helpful in sending us information about taking a taxi from the airport, and he also called a taxi to take us to the port of Civitavecchia for us on the day of our departure. We had a great time in Rome, and the Palazzo Grillo added to that! We enjoyed living in an Italian neighborhood where we could shop in the markets and eat in the neighborhood restaurants.

We had the best time in Enzo's apartment! I was traveling with my mom and friend in the fall. The apartment is set on an idyllic street steps from the old Roman Forum and Coliseum. In fact, you can see some of the ruins from the windows of the apartment! The rest of the surrounding neighborhood is friendly maze of cute cobble stone streets and wonderful restaurants and shops. The apartment is very spacious, fully appointed and well decorated. The building itself it also very nice with an elevator, several secure doors and lovely art hanging in the halls. Enzo was friendly, accommodating and gave great recommendations of places to eat and see. I really can't recommend this place more! In my opinion, this place is perfect for couples, friends or a family on vacation. Why get a hotel when you can stay in a real Roman apartment!!!

Beautiful apartment; very spacious; incredible views (Roman ruins all around); comfortable furniture (though the pillows were a bit hard for our taste); lots of place for clothes; lots of place for toiletries in bathroom. Drawbacks: kitchen a bit lacking in basics -- no kettle, no toaster, no microwave, only one dishtowel There was however plenty of dishes and glasses. Lack of linens -- no change of sheets; only one large and one small each for 10 days. Still, we enjoyed ourselves.
Owner response:Thanks for the suggestion: few days ago I added a kettle in the kitchen equipment! A quick note for all future guests: The apartment has a washing machine and dryer: whatever the duration of the rent, everyone can easily wash sheets and towels by himself . However additional linens, as well as full cleaning service during the stay, can be provided on request at an extra cost. Feel free to ask at the time of reservation. With regard to the kitchen, I never mentioned it is equipped with microwave and toaster. If in the future I decided to add these items, I will mention in the description of the apartment. So always read the description and give a look at the pictures! However keep in mind there are 4 ring stoves and an oven with grill in the kitchen ... and plenty of delicious restaurants (to suit all budgets) nearby!

We stayed at Palazzo Grillo for nearly a week in mid July of August, 2011. Our family of 4 (with 2 teenage daughters) couldn't have been happier or more comfortable. We had plenty of space, privacy and immediately felt right at home from Teresa's warm greeting until the day we left. The location couldn't have been better within steps of the incredible Coliseum. In spite of being in the center of it all, it was incredibly quiet. Thank you for a great Roman Holiday.

This is our first family visit to Rome (and Europe in general). The owner has been very responsive throughout the booking process. The apartment is very well maintained and our kids love the antique elevator in the building. It is very well equipped but could use a microwave, and everything is working as expected. Couldn't ask for better location - very close to Colosseo, Roman Forums, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain etc. We walk everywhere and only rode taxi to the Vatican city. There are also plenty of sourvenir stores, cafe, bakery shops, and restaurants nearby. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who would want to experience Rome.

We just came back from Rome and I should say that Palazzo Del Grillo was one of our best experiences during the whole trip. We traveled with our two kids (21 and 13). This place gave us plenty of space. Kids had their own bedroom and bath. So did we. Washer and dryer was a huge plus (if you figure out how to use it), considering hot weather and lots of walking, we had to change a couple of time a day. Location is amazing. We walked to metro, and most of the attractions. Mrs. Teresa was very prompt and helpful. Definitely would recommend this apartment to anyone who doesn't want to stay in hotels.

My husband and another couple chose Palazzo Grillo for our 10-day stay in May. It was our first time renting an apartment in Rome, and it was perfect! You really can't find a better location. The Colosseum and the Forum are right outside your door. There are markets and plenty of restaurants nearby, and the Metro is less than a 5 minute walk. Aside from lacking a few dishes, it had everything else we needed. We'll definitely come back to this apartment on our next trip to the Eternal City!

If you are into history, architecture, or just living well, this place is for you. I rent 2-4 apartments/villas a year and this was by far one of the best. It is very comfortable as though someone lives there (not common in rentals) and everything you think you might need is there. It is basically in the forum...can't get closer than that. We walked everywhere from here as it is so central there was no need for a taxi. Mrs. Theresa the caretaker went out of her way to get us a last minute taxi due to a flight change. This place is first class. Be warned: This place is not modern (not a bunch of IKEA furniture). It is full of classic design pieces and the matress is wonderful.

We had a great trip to Rome, staying at the Palazzo Grillo apartment. We were travelling with our 6 and 8 year old daughters, and found the apartment spacious and well equipped. We loved the massive library of books (in many languages) and the view overlooking the ruins. When our flight was delayed by 7 hours, the apartment manager had no trouble delaying our check-out - much appreciated!

We stayed in the Palazzo Grillo with our two children (aged 6 and 8) in January. It was lovely and warm, and very conveniently located. Teresa (the owner's representative) was very helpful - she organized our taxi to the airport! The apartment is perfectly located next to Roman ruins, and we walked virtually everywhere.

We stayed at this apartment for four days, and it was everything we expected and more. The air conditioning was especially welcome given the hot & humid July weather, and, even though the living area isn't isn't air conditioned, opening windows on both sides always produced a refreshing breeze. Security was above average, with an interior locked iron gate and several keys required to gain entry. The location couldn't be better -- right in the middle of ancient Rome, next to the Forum, and a 5-minute walk to the Coliseum and Palatine Hill, yet no "touristy area" feel. Plenty of great restaurants, grocery, pharmacy, and shops nearby, as well as the Metro stop at the Coliseum. The apartment manager was very pleasant, and always available to answer questions.

We stayed at Enzo's apartment for 3 nights and it was perfect! It was in a perfect location -- we explored the city on foot and could really walk anywhere we wanted to. There are several good restaurants (hidden on the back streets) within a few blocks of the apartment. It was perfect in the amount of space for a family with 2 teenage boys. We just arrived in Rome and had jet lag and the extra room gave all the family members room to rest or not. It was perfect because it had air conditioning in the bed rooms! And finally, Ms Teresa was very helpful -- she called a taxi for us for our departure. I will definately stay at Enzo's next time in Rome. Thank you!

The apartment was everything as advertised in the description on VRBO. My wife and 3 teenage daughters had a great weekend. The apartment was very clean and secure. In the two days we were there, we were able to see the Colleseum, Roman Forum, Palantino, & Trevi Fountain (beautiful at night). All within an easy walking distance and we do not typically like to walk. We did have a rental car that we kept at the apartment and did drive it over to the Vatican, but the rest of the time, we did not need it. We also enjoyed an evening meal at Mario's right across the street, wonderful people!

We stayed at Palazzo del Grillo in March 2010. It was as advertised, spacious, clean, comfortable, and quiet at night. It is very convenient to the Colosseo, Foro, metro, and ground transportation. We walked to all the major attractions, but we have been to Roma a few times before and know our way around and prefer walking. We have never stayed in the Monti rione before so enjoyed discovering new restaurants and back streets. The apartment is fully equipped and grocery stores are a short walk away on Via Cavour. There is a good selection of tourist books, too.Enzo was very helpful and always professional. We had no problems at all. His housekeeper Theresa gave us a good orientation to the apartment and was easy to reach via mobile for any questions. We would highly recommend this accomodation.

The apartment was as promised. Very close to the important sites. Mrs. Theresa was an absolutely lovely lady making us feel welcomed and giving us important information about the apartment and places to visit. We never had a problem. Views from bedroom windows included ruins and quaint piazza. I too rely on reviews b/c what you see isn't always what you get. I would not hesitate to rent from this locale. Our party had 5 guests incl. 2 teenagers, and we felt very very comfortable. Thank you Enzo!

From the moment of our arrival and Theresa's assistance until we departed for the airport, our stay was truly memorable. Communication with Enzo was top-notch throughout the process. Will definitely be recommending the apartment to friends as the better alternative to a hotel!

We just returned from a week in Rome. The apartment at Palazzo Del Grillo was all that was promised, and more than expected. My husband and I were there with our adult daughter and her teenaged daughter. There was plenty of space for all of us, without getting on each other's nerves by being too close together all the time. Location, location, location! In the week we were there we saw most of Rome's major sights, and did not use public transportation once. Everything was within easy walking distance. The apartment was stunningingly beautiful, and very clean. Enzo and his representative were very helpful. The entire experience was wonderful. If you go, try the little restaurant right there in the square, Mario's. It's friendly, and feels very much like a place the locals would go to.

We stayed there with another couple in late September. It’s a nice large two bedroom apartment set up well for two couples or a large family. The bedrooms and baths are located on opposite ends of the apartment. Nice kitchen with a full size fridge. Big common areas with lots of room to spread out. Also appreciated was the lift (for those heavy bags!). No street noise. It’s located conveniently for most sites and within 5 mins of the Metro. Booking process was simple with Enzo who was good to communicate with and his agent, Teresa, was very nice and available when needed. Overall a great experience. Highly recommend this apartment. Feel free to e-mail me with questions. Roger

I loved the apartment. I am a small business owner and the high speed internet helped me keep up with e-mails and other business related items. Apartment was centrally located and you can walk to the Coliseum, Forum restaurants, and taxi stand. In fact, the one across the alley was very good. Would definitely use it again when I go back, and pricing is low compared to local hotels. Dealing with property owner's local representative was easy. Thanks Enzo.

We stayed 4 nights, the apartment is very clean and spacious. The kids could have their own room (which made everyone happier) and the location was great for sightseeing, we probably walked past the Colosseum a dozen times. The Rome metro, such as it is, is easily reached in a short walk either at Colosseo or Cavour and the kids have already spotted the Palazzo del Grillo in the background of a History Channel show on Rome.

Enzo and Teresa were wonderful and communication during the reservation process was great. The apartment is, like others have said so well, great. Plenty of room to hang out and all modern conveniences available. The location is fantastic. We walked to nearly all major tourist attractions and the local restaurants were delicious. La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali was absolutely divine. The wine and the food were fantastic. We travelled with our young son and the chef/owner and waiters doted on him. Another place we loved was Enoteca Corsi near Piazza Navona (Via Del Gesu 88). Open for lunch only the place is busy with local people. On our first visit we had steamed meatballs and mushed potatoes, minestroni soup and burgundy wine. Fantastic. All in all we had a great trip to Rome and we would definitely stay at Enzo's place again. Grazie mille, Enzo and Teresa!!!

The apartment is as advertised- clean, spacious, in a perfect location for sight-seeing, and felt very safe and secure. Frankly, I can't imagine why anyone would rent a hotel room in Rome when something like this is available (aside from room service I suppose). The only thing we had to futz with was the air conditioning units- they could only run 3-4 hours before having to have their trays emptied. Since my wife likes a cold room at night, that precluded sleeping uninterrupted through the night (if we didn't want a mini-flood). But not everyone will have an issue with that, especially in winter, and most people would probably be just as happy with the windows open at night in warm weather. Overall, very highly recommended and we'd stay there again!

Palazzo Del GrilloWe loved this apartment. In mid July, my wife and I took our three young kids to Italy and decided to try an apartment. We were nervous about what we might have gotten ourselves into but once we saw the place, we knew we did “good…”It is located in a great little neighborhood near restaurants, shops and the coliseum. It is smack in the middle of some ancient ruins which provide great views outside every window. What we really liked was how big it was. After a long day of touring, we could go back and truly hang out to rest. The kids would be in the living room and we would have wine and cheese (bought from the local market down the street) in the dinning room. Yes, they are all these different rooms. Our friends who traveled with us, stayed in a nearby hotel with their two kids. They paid about the same but were in a shoebox size, single room. They found themselves hanging out at our apartment all the time.Paying by PayPal was easy and efficient. The owner’s representative met us on time at the apartment and was very helpful in getting us situated. The neighborhood is full of diplomats. We realized why at the end of our trip – the Italian President’s residence is just up the street. Worth taking a walk to see.We highly recommend the apartment for anyone traveling to Rome. We tell everyone our trip to Italy worked out so well because we had a great place to stay.

We stayed at this apartment for a week in August 2007 with our family of four. The apartment was very comfortable and spacious and the location was perfect. Both the owner, whom we did not meet personally, and his representative in Rome (Ms. Teresa) were reliable, friendly and helpful. If we have the occasion to return to Rome, we would most definitely consider renting this apartment again. The apartment has everything we needed to enjoy our stay in Rome. The well-equipped kitchen and large dining area made us wish that we cooked more meals in the apartment, but we were so busy sight-seeing that we did not take the time to relax and enjoy many meals "at home." We also enjoyed borrowing the many travel books in the apartment during our stay. We travel light and did not have any travel books of our own to consult during our trip, so it was very useful to have those at hand. We highly recommend this apartment especially for longer stays, as it is very large and comfortable. We are now interested in exploring some of the other properties the owner has to offer in other cities. The Buedel Family Chapel Hill, North Carolina USA

Palazzo Del Grillo is absolutely the best value in all of Italy! I have traveled to Rome before, and believe me, there could not be a more central location. We walked to all major venues. The accommodations are absolutely splendid! A huge dining room, separate "great room" for relaxing together, full kitchen with everything! Each bedroom has a full bath with all the room you would expect. I recommend this flat with absolutely no reservations. I will return here on my next visit!

The apartment was wonderful and exactly as described. We really enjoyed our stay in a building built in the ruins of the Forum. Our grandson (age 5) thought the elevator was the best thing yet. We hope to be able to return.

The apartment is an ideal base for sightseeing in Rome. The location could not be better and everybody enjoys living in a palace. We had plenty of room for five and looked forward to coming back to our home between the end of our visits and dinner. All amenities described were available and worked. Thank you Enzo for a great stay!

I stayed at Palazzo del Grillo with my daughter for a long weekend, and it was perfect - a very easy, comfortable apartment where everything works efficiently, and ideally situated for seeing most of the major sights.

Very spacious apartment wonderfully located. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Be sure to eat at FISH, a wonderful seafood restaurant nearby.

Beautiful apartment. Nice furnishings in good condition, and clean. There was plenty of space for all of us (2 parents plus 3 kids). It was a nice respite from the July heat and crowds of Rome. The location is very convenient to the Colosseum and Roman forum. Many other sites are also in walking distance and a bus that takes you to the Vatican is just a block or two away. The narrow street in front of the apartment building can be busy at times, so be careful. Unlike the previous comment, we thought the restaurant across the street (Mario's) was OK. We went there for dinner twice because we could send the kids back across the street to the apartment to hang out when they got bored after dinner while my husband and I could linger over a bottle of wine.

This apartment is beautiful, spacious and well appointed. It was a delightfully tranquil refuge from the heat and bustle of Rome in July. Francesca, from the boutique, was very helpful whenever we needed advice (e.g., taxis). The beautiful website pictures do not lie! In the neighbourhood, there are many good places to buy food for self-catering and many good places to eat. But be careful! Avoid the HORRIBLE "Mario's" restaurant nearby. We, poor wretches, had no choice on the night it was bucketing down and we had no umbrellas. Do go to Il Gelatone (delicious and reasonably priced ice creams) many times and Enoteca Al Vino al Vino (wines, sausage, cheese etc. as a pleasant light meal). Both are on via dei Serpenti. The Despar supermarket on via Nazionale was extremely well-stocked. If you don't know how to use a moka, learn! The best start to the day is your own coffee. Al Giubileo (via del Boschetto) had wonderful pastas and pizzas at reasonable prices, as well as a front row seat for the World Cup 2006 Germany versus France on the big screen TV! Don't miss the coffee granita with cream at la Tazza d'Oro, close to the Pantheon. You'll think you've died and gone to heaven. And, if you can find an Illy coffee bar, you can indulge (as we did!) as often as possible in refreshing cold coffee drinks of many types. Thanks to Enzo for a most enjoyable stay.

"Great location! Quiet apartment (for Rome)surrounded by the Imperial Forum. Easy walk to cafes, Metro stations (either Cavour or Colosseo)and all the sites of ancient Rome. Large and clean with abundant amenities for a family (e.g., wash machine/dryer, two bathrooms w/showers, plenty of towels and nearby super markets). More than enough room for our family of five - 2 adults and three children ages 7, 11, and 15. Large family room to relax in after the day's touring is complete. Enzo was easy to work with and his on-site representatives were very helpful. Will stay again on our next trip to Rome!"
