Gathered amazing rocks on Agate Beach, watched orcas cavorting, made many trips to Shark Reef to watch the mother and baby seals, kayaked, played the piano, read, sat in the sun, cooked and ate delicious meals, watched the stars thru the skylights, read the Times in front of the fire, and ate four packages of cookies...Did you find this review helpful? Had a relaxing visit at Ravens Rook, peace and quiet and the backdrop of forest and sea. All the places that Asha pointed out to visit were true to her word and we enjoyed our little hikes. Daily visits from deer were a bonus and we enjoyed them. The inhabitants of this island are extremely friendly and we met very nice people everywhere we went. it was a nice break and we enjoyed our stay.Did you find this review helpful? Enjoyed our visit In Ravens Rook, walking to Shark Reef, collecting stones at the beach, and eating tasty pastries at Holly B's bakery. Plenty of time for reading by the fire also.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our favorite part of all was our getaway at Ravens Rook. Staying in this house gave us plenty of room, it was quiet and relaxing and we fell in love with its structure. Also, watching the deer coming in and out of the yard. We woke up this morning to a mother and her babies. While she was eating they were playing together. It was an awesome sight. As beautiful as Lopez Island is, this house is what will bring us back. This has been a definite getaway for us. Thank you Asha for a wonderful stay. We will be back.Did you find this review helpful? Thank you for sharing Ravens Rook with us. We had a magical week sharing Lopez Island with our families and getting married in the the backyard. Your house captures the unique spirit of Lopez Island and we are so glad we had a chance to be a part of it. Not to mention its only15 minutes to hike out to Shark Reef. We loved it and can't wait to come back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1984
About the owner: In the early 80’s I moved to Lopez Island as a haven to raise my two children as a single mom. I was struck with the “pioneering spirit” and wanted to experience building from scratch. So after buying five acres, I took a year to create a clearing in the midst of the tall firs, and then peeled many poles for the post and beam cabin and house, and had remaining trees milled for lumber. I first built the cabin in a summer, basing the design on what I could see of barn construction. Many upgrades have happened since then! My kids and I lived in the cabin for three years while I and a talented craftsman worked on the octagon house. It took a total of seven years to complete the house, as many of the custom joints were carefully fitted and the uniqueness of the design demanded creative approaches to traditional building. In those days you could build with an owner builder permit and we ended up doing everything ourselves. There is something that happens when you live in the space you have created yourself. I got to see a reflection of my dreams and perhaps even of myself manifested in a form that has a permanence that has shaped my life. Building my home with the materials that grew here has given me a feeling of being an integral part of the nature that daily surrounds me. I am so grateful to live here as I do, and find it a pleasure to share that gratitude of island life with others. Though there is the endless “keeping up” of a homestead, I no longer pound many nails or peel poles. I find myself working with others on land conservation, and sharing perceptions of sacred ecology in retreats. I enjoy having Ravens Rook Lodging as my small business—a way to share the riches of a quiet island life. May it ever be so. Asha Lela
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Perhaps one of the best benefits of living here is the rest and rejuvenation that comes with being in nature and being away from the busyness of noise and activity. One can sink into reflection or choose to be actively interactive on the water or on trails or the beach. The 45 acre Nature Sanctuary right across the road is only a few minutes walk to the trails that take you out through old forest to view the many seals hanging out on the rocks nearby and the splendid views of snow capped mountains and scenic lighthouse. And at the same time there are good restaurants and community activities in the village 10 minutes away
by car.
You , too, can come and enjoy it all!!
