  Our group rented Halle's Grove for four nights at the end of March. We loved the place! The two houses are close to each other, but separated enough that those who wanted to settle early could sleep while others were still up chatting. There is a big deck off the back of Zin, and that house and deck is where we tended to congregate, although the fire circle, down in a redwood grove, also drew us to its warmth. It rained (and hailed!) most of the weekend, but we were happy to hang out in the houses and just be together. People brought food ready to serve, but we did a lot of cooking in Zin too, and found it to be well stocked with dishware, utensils, and cooking necessities, except for a curious lack of mixing bowls of any type, at either house. We found ourselves mixing scrambled eggs, pancake batter, etc., in huge wooden salad bowls.. there were coffee makers, toasters, and microwaves, but no blenders or vegetable steamers, or cake or loaf pans; nor was there a double boiler, a rolling pin, or any specialized cooking tools. I would suggest that if you are planning to cook anything which needs specific utensils or pans, etc., that you bring them with you. The beds are wonderful, huge, and comfortable, most with pillow top mattresses, and there are heaters and plenty of blankets in all the bedrooms. There are also TVs in the bedrooms, as well as in most of the common rooms. There is free wireless internet access. The rooms are large and airy, with great views into the forest. There are bathrooms easily available upstairs and downstairs at both houses, although the larger bedroom upstairs in Merlot has to go through another bedroom to get to the upstairs bathroom, or go downstairs. There is plenty of firewood and kindling for the fire pit. The houses are set well back from Jonive Road, which is a two-lane country road, not heavily traveled or noisy. Our dogs were free to roam and were safe there. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Outside, the yard is beautiful, with lilac, azalea, and roses everywhere, and forget-me-nots and other flowers scattered throughout the forest. We all used to live in Sebastopol, and so knew the area well; there is a great French restaurant in Forestville, really worth the drive, and a fabulous bakery in Freestone, next to a great little antique store! A cheese store is coming to Freestone this summer..

  This rental is in a beautiful setting and the houses were both fully equipped and comfortable. We highly recommend this rental and we will defiantly be going back in the future.

  Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

  Friends and I came up to Halle House for the weekend to celebrate my wife's 40th. We were wowed by how beautiful the property is. We were a party of 11 so we rented both houses, which was great for us. It gave all the couples (and the single) our own rooms. The kitchen and back deck of the Zin house was where we gathered for afternoon cocktails and dinner. Both the Zin house and the Merlot house were clean and fully-stocked. The beds were comfy. Our guests appreciated the space heaters in each room, though it was pretty hot while we were up there. Marilyn and Warren genuinely welcome dogs. The co-planner of the party brought her Bernese mountain dog and it was a great spot for him. Plenty of room to walk around. He could sniff around in the backyard or lie on the porch--or go inside when it got too hot. He had the run of the place. (I should say that he's very well behaved and we cleaned up after him.) I had some questions the first morning I was there and both Marilyn and Warren called me back quickly with answers. The one thing I forgot to ask them is how to turn on the lights around the fire pit--I'd recommend asking! It's fun but very dark. Warren and Marilyn will give you a thorough list of local wineries. All I can add is that we loved the town of Occidental and the little French restaurant Bistro des Copains. In short, a great stay, and I can't wait to do it again!

  I rented Halles Grove from Marilyn and Warren in January to throw a 30th birthday weekend for my husband. We had several adult guests coming in from out of town who needed appropriate accommodations for sleeping. Halle’s Grove had plenty of comfortable sleeping space and enough bathrooms for all of us. The property is wonderful, and I can see why this would be the ideal place for families to stay. Warren and Marilyn both responded to my inquiry before any other rental property. Warren went out of his way far and beyond in order to make sure that our stay was wonderful. Even during a rainstorm the stay was perfect because of the beautiful surroundings and the cozy houses. I had never rented a property before for anything, and Warren made the process so effortless!

  My son was getting married in Sebastopol, and I wanted a house to accomodate my family. We could have stayed at a nearby hotel, but I wanted for us to be all together. Family time was important to me! From the minute I inquired about this rental, the owner was very kind and helpful. She responded quickly to any, and all questions I had. We conversed many times, which confirmed to me that this was the property I would rent! The pictures on the website are accurate, BUT, the house and its surroundings were MORE beautiful! Upon arrival, the house was clean and very well maintained! It was alot more spacious than the photos depicted. The layout of the house really was perfect for my family! The backyard was very big and perfect for our dog to roam. The firepit really was an added feature that was a hit with all of us! We sat outdoors each night and just purely enjoyed the huge trees and our quality family time! We actually even sang some campfire songs while roasting marmallows to make smores! All in all, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this property to families! You will experience a wonderful, memorable, family experience!
