Odyssey House is situated in a quiet pedestrian lane off the main road of the Old Town of Chania, just a short walking distance to all the amenities and facilities of both the Old Town as well as the newer part of Chania city and the sandy beaches of Nea Hora and Koum Kapi. The beautiful Venetian Harbour front with its many restaurants, bars and shops is only a short stroll away and, once you step outside Odyssey House’s door, you will see the ruins of the ancient walls of Chania’s earliest settlement.
Odyssey House has been recently renovated and is fully furnished and equipped. The House’s tastefully decorated living space is spread over three floors, a style common to the early Venetian period of architecture in Chania. With two good-sized bedrooms, fitted wardrobes, living room and an extra sleeping loft, Odyssey House can accommodate up to six people. A small private rooftop terrace is accessed from the third level, perfect for enjoying a drink as the sun goes down.
The large, fully equipped modern kitchen is uniquely designed, keeping the original architectural features, incorporating the historic domed part of the original Venetian building for the elegant dining area.
Odyssey House has a modern bathroom with shower and a laundry room on the first floor as well as another small shower room on the ground floor.
The renovations to Odyssey House have sensitively blended the practicality of modern design with the charming traditional architectural features in the house such as the stone archways, the domed kitchen and the old secret passageway used by the Chanians to move between houses in historic times of attack.
The comfort of our guests remains our focus, with all the modern conveniences required for a most enjoyable stay. Extra touches include TV, DVD, wi-fi internet, an eclectic library, and welcome packages including the delicious fresh homemade marmalades.
We can assist you with discounted car rental as well as discounted boat-trips; excursions and journeys such as the Samaria Gorge walk; trips to Elafonisi, Knossos and the islands of Balos and Gramvousa.

I really wanted to like this house. The location was good and we enjoyed the fact that the house was 200 years old. The owner left a very nice welcome package for us which we enjoyed. She and the agent were very nice and ready to assist us. However, the house was not at all what we expected. The listing says there are two bathrooms. One was a shower room (with no toilet) that was horribly dank and we couldn't even stand to open the door. The other bathroom had a shower stall 2 feet x 2 feet with a shower curtain all around that stuck to you when you tried to shower. Neither my daughter or I could wash our hair because the water flooded the bathroom even during a quick shower. The double bed was not uncomfortable but not great either and it squeaked loudly with every move. The room was so small that the bed was pushed up against the wall with no side table. My husband had to crawl in from the foot of the bed if I was already in bed. My daughter's bed and room was fine and we didn't use the loft. The living room and kitchen were fine but certainly not luxurious. The whole house is very dark. Be aware that there are few pictures in the listing, probably for a reason. I booked the house based on the reviews which were glowing. I will be more careful next time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

As it is said in all the reviews, this house is a very good place where to stay in Chania. you've got all you need there, a nice decoration, lots of comfort, a good geographic situation, you are close to anything you need in the town, and, what's important from my point of view, this house has a soul, an history....you can feel it as soon as you open the door!.... I want to add that when I rented this house, I was happy to find two very important persons(VIP!!!!!!). First one was Andreas....you can't believe how helpful he is...you need solutions to visit a place in Crete?....ask Andreas, you need a taxi?...ask Andreas...he is always there for you and his office is only 2 minutes from the house. He even gets in touch with you through internet to make sure you have good time and don't need anything...I have been renting lots of houses all over the world and it's the first time I find someone caring like that ...I mean even after having the keys!!!!! (before it is always nice!) Then you've got Xenia....she is the owner of the house and at the same time your neighbour...Xenia is for me the symbol of generosity and what a kind person should be!...We shared lots of things , moments and emotions with her and her family and holidays should have been very different without her smile! We will never forget all these nice and intense moments and dream to come again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Christine!!! Thank you so much for your very kind words. It was a pleasure to meet you too, and we all look forward to seeing you again in Crete soon.

Xenia and Kostas have created a lovely place for themselves out of Venetian ruin. Centrally located within walking distance of the Old Town and the Venetian Harbour, the house has 3 levels with functional furniture. Xenia and Kostas made every effort to make us comfortable with delicious home-made pastries and marmalade as well as a stocked refrigerator with soft cheese and juices. We enjoyed our stay and would happily meet her again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hello girls, and thank you very much for the very kind words. Hope to see you again. Andreas, Xenia & Kostas

Xenia, Thank you for your wonderful hospitality. Our kids were so happy in this house – you were very thoughtful to have provided toys, dolls, and coloring books for them. They spent many happy hours here. We loved this house – great location. Thanks for showing us supermarket locations and all your help. We will recommend your house to anyone staying in Crete, and hope to return soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Odyssey House is the perfect place for a true Greek experience. Our party of three stayed there for 3 wonderful weeks and fell in love with Crete and Chania. Andreas from Cretan Life arranged our rental and he promptly answered every question and was always willing to offer suggestions or make arrangements to further our enjoyment. The owners, Xenia and Costas, were close by so if we needed anything, they were happy to oblige. They left us a nicely stocked kitchen and after our weekly cleaning, we would find fresh fruit or cookies left on the table for us. The house is perfectly located within the old historic city. You are surrounded by old Venetian ruins spilling over with bougainvillea, creating the perect ambience. You can walk to all the sights in the town and when you are in need of a swim, it is only a 15 minute walk to our favorite beach, a long and beautiful sandy beach called Nea Hora. where the water is crystal clear with a gentle slope just perfect for children. We quickly found our favorite restaurants. To Adespoto is just across from Odyssey House and Erion and Georgios will take excellent care of you. Georgios plays the guitar every night and combos with one or up to three other musicians. I cannot describe how perfectly Greek it was to feel the warm air waft into the apartment at night with the lovely Greek melodies in accompaniment. Apostolis is a restaurant in the old Venetian Harbor. Ask for Stelos - he is so friendly and kind. We had the best octopus of our lives there. The photos of the house in the advertisement were accurate. It is an up and down style house so there are stairs but they were easy to negotiate. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were of very high quality. The Wifi worked perfectly. The kitchen is very large and one could easily cook meals, however, with all the wonderful restaurants and great food, who wanted to cook? We will never forget our stay at Odyssey house and the wonderful Cretans we met and liked so well. We hope to return to Chania as soon as possible. We had such a wonderful vacation in this very special home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: WOW! Thank you very much for the very kind words Patricia. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay in Chania, and we are honestly hoping to see you again ... soon!

We are a group of 5 students from China, and we were looking for something economical and in the centre. this house provided everything to us and also we could check-in after we arived from the ferry as we were too tired. Easter celebrations in Chania old town is a very good experience and we recommend the house and the this specific time to everybody. The service was very good and we appreciate all the help from owners for bus to Iraklio. It was good choice to come to Chania from Athens before go to other islands. We hope to go back one day! Thank you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you very much for the kind words Gin. It was nice to meet you all. We hope to see you all again some day. Andreas.

I was in search for a house in Chania for me and my little daughter for January 2011 for ten days. I had a very restricted budget but I didn't want a small studio; I preferred to have separate rooms from my child. When I inquired for Odyssey House I never thought that they were renting out such a big and spacious house for so little money. I asked a friend that stays in Chania to go and check it for me and she was really impressed. So, we decided to take it on. The house is in a good location; very quiet neighbourhood but at the same time very near to all shops and restaurants, and to a sandy beach (it was warm enough in January!). The service from both Andreas and Ksenia was fantastic, especially when we asked them to help us with the hot water, and they did .... at 11pm! Andreas' assistant (Alexandra) speaks Russian and that definitely help, it made me feel better. Thank you very much for the service and the experience guys. I will definitely try to come back next winter. Tatiana (and Olga)Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you very much for the nice words Tatiana. We all wait to have you back in Chania next winter or any other time you want. We are glad that you had a good time... hope to see you again soon! Andreas

What a great way to start the year...! My wife and I stayed in Odyssey House the first two days of 2011, and we have had a great experience. We were renting a small studio for the week before, but we decided to move to a bigger house for the last couple of days, so we decided to contact Andreas, who had this wonderful house available. One could found everything in the house, and the location was just perfect; so close to everything. The only problem at the time was the internet (no internet when we rented the house), but Andreas is telling us now that they have wi-fi internet everywhere in the house. ???????????? ??????! Hope to see you again. Thanasis and Kyriaki.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you very much for the kind words Thanasis. Yes, the wi-fi internet is sorted now. Hope to see you again soon. Regards to Kyriaki!

Authentic quirky charm and comfort best describes my impression of Odyssey House. I truly enjoyed my experience there as a guest. This house, although newly renovated for comfort and convenience, still retains its historic nature. It is nestled away on a quiet pedestrian lane but still easy to get to the hub of Chania old town. The place was spotless, well maintained, had comfortable bed and furnishings, thick walls to keep the place cool, and tons of hot water... all so important for a traveler. This is a perfect place for a traveler on the go - a wonderful refuge to come back to after a full day of sight seeing or lolling on the beach. This isn't a concrete slab of a characterless holiday hotel - this is the real deal. Authentic historic architecture, a real Chanian neighbourhood and a great place to experience a stay in a typical Venetian house of the period. Best part? The hostess makes the most wonderful jams and jellies from her own trees.... all part of the warm welcome you receive when you are a guest there. Thanks so much for your wonderful hospitality! I will recommend this to my friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you very much Nancy. It was nice to have you back to Chania again. Hope to see you again next winter. Andreas
