The perfect location to sit and relax by the lake or to use as your base camp for exploring the surrounding area. We enjoyed getting to know the area and can't wait to come back. Great hospitality. Great place to stay if you travel with dogs.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind remarks. We certainly appreciate your review. We hope to see you again. Marcia Lacey

We can't put into words how much we enjoyed our stay and how awesome your hospitality was! Rusty and Cody added to the overall charm of your place. They are such sweet dogs. We are a family of 4. We found the cabin very cozy but yet enough room for everyone to move around. The kids spent a lot of time on the beach. We also took a few hikes up the river that runs through this property! This was the first time we traveled with one of our dogs and it was the perfect spot for her as well!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I just heard Gracie tell her Basset, "Other Room!" Amazingly, it worked and, it reminded me that I needed to email you and tell you we made it home safe and sound (after stopping along the way at Betty's Pies). We can't put into words how much we enjoyed our stay and how awesome your hospitality was! Rusty and Cody added to the overall charm of your place. At the last minute, we decided to head to the North Shore for the weekend and we are so glad we did. The Chicago Bay Hideaway was perfect for us! We now have a new favorite spot on the North Shore. The owners were so friendly and had a wealth of historical knowledge and offered great tips on where to eat and places to visit. Rusty and Kody were so friendly...they are awesome "welcome" dogs!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: We so enjoy meeting all the people who come to enjoy our "heaven on earth" Our property is too beautiful not to share with others. Our two golden retrievers really enjoy all the four legged friends they meet and play with.

At the last minute we decided to go on vacation and wanted to camp but there were no sites in the area. We decided to rent a cabin and found Chicago Bay Hideaway. We did not know what to expect, but once we got here we discovered how great a place it was! It was like having our own cabin, perfect right on the beach. 100% better than camping. All the amenities and still being able to have our own firepit on the beach. We saw more stars than ever before and listened to the waves as we slept. Our hosts were awesome. Thank you for all the tips and for being so friendly. Super nice dogs too! We will be back for sure.,Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great and relaxing time. Hiked Eagle Mtn & Grand Portage Middle Falls. No bears, but had two hungry kids after all those miles. We loved Sven and Olie’s and the Dockside Fish Market. Our dog enjoyed his morning visit from Rusty and Kody. I am pretty sure there are not any rocks left on the beach after my son left? We had a wonderful sleep each night, listening to the waves and enjoyed being by ourselves. We will be back. A and E Blaine, MnDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent a very relaxing weekend here at the Hideaway, celebrating our 9th anniversary. This cabin has begun to feel like a family home to us and hearing the lake 24/7 reminds us of our years on the shoreline of Marquette, MI. We love coming here to reconnect with each other, with our spirituality, and to take time to slow down. What a blessing Marcia and Ken provide in opening this place to visitors. Hope to return soon - M & W – Circle Pines MNDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: Ken retired from Northwest Airlines and we decided to build our house on property that has been in the family since 1963. And yes we built it ourselves! We love the outdoors and especially love living on Lake Superior. We love hunting, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. I have trained dogs all my life and have two Golden Retreivers. However my old guy, Kody, recently died. He is missed dearly and will be missed by many of my clients. A new black Lab puppy will be joining Rusty in the spring. The dogs love all the people who stay in the Cabin. We have made many lasting friends. This is the only cabin on our property. We love to share our little 'piece of heaven'
Why the Owner Chose Hovland:
When we retired up north, We wanted something to do, so we brought in a little 14 by 16 cabin to rent. We have so much fun meeting all the people who visit. When we built our home here in Hovland, we decided we had enough room to share our 'little piece of heaven'. It is a safe place for the dogs to run and have fun and not worry about busy roads. Providing a vacation rental on Lake Superior is like having a place on a small ocean.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin is private. It is just like having your own cozy cabin on Lake Superior. Lake Superior is different everyday. The Flute Reed River is a great river to hike or just cool off. The cabin is private but close enough to get map information or a spice you are missing!
