Riverfront Rustic Charm 10min to Columbia Gorge and Hood River
- Minimum stay:2-3 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Nestled right on the banks of the White Salmon river in a small community of other cabins. It's private, though not isolated - there are neighboring cabins across the river and one next door. The setting is picturesque. Accommodations are simple (rustic) but with all the basic amenities. And less than an hour and a half from Portland, ten minutes from Hood River - its hard to beat the location.
Daytime outdoor activities, dinner on the deck, and sleeping on the screened porch are our favorite things to do. The river is spring fed so it is cold all year and swift, but a quick dip on a hot day is possible. Kayaking and rafting on the river are popular (class 2-5), and there are many guided trips options in BZ or Husum. There are also ample hiking, cycling and mountain biking options including the Nestor Peak 19 mile loop trail - which you can start from the door. Trout Lake and the Gifford Pinchot are to the North with lots more recreation options - including Mt. Adams. There's also a commercial stable three miles down the road and golf (Husum Hills) approx. five miles away. Also multiple wineries and breweries within driving distance.
Hood River is a ten minute drive away. A great place to go for shopping and a meal. Trout Lake is about twenty miles to the North. The town of White Salmon is about five miles east.
A little more on the rustic charms… Cabin is about 600 square feet and includes main living area / kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and screened sleeping porch overlooking river. Maximum occupancy is four / two cars - though best suited for couple. It's an open floor plan, with limited separation between main living area and bedroom. The sleeping porch is screened and sits right on river. It's open and can get chilly - though is perfect in summer months - actually pretty dreamy. It's cozy living quarters - ideal for a couple. There is a basic shower and sink from a curtained bathroom off the master bedroom. Kitchen is very functional and includes small fridge, electric oven with stove top, coffee maker, toaster, sink with hot water, basic pots and pans, cooking tools, dishware, silverware etc. (on a hot summer weekend you will want to think about supplementing mini fridge with a cooler). There's also a gas BBQ outside.
It's simple, though very cool and a perfect staging area for various activities or for just relaxing. Oh - and our dog thinks its the best place in the world too. Cabin is dog friendly - no deposit required provided your dog behaves him/herself and stays off furniture.
Note: If you do decide to rent / stay, it's important to us that you be good neighbors to the other cabin owners. We appreciate your (and dog if you bring one) consciousness about the wild and scenic environment, appropriate quiet times, etc. If you're looking for a place to be loud / party / entertain - that's fine - but this is not the location for you. Maximum occupancy is three and two cars - unless otherwise arranged. CAbin is small and ideally suited for couples. Extra rates apply if we agree to occupancy above three. Inside cabin is non smoking.
Also: for some reason East Lake Road doesn't link with Google Earth or GPS - to see in Google just type in 11 Creekside Place (even though it's 11 East Lake Road) White Salmon, 98672. I show 45 degrees 46'53.52'N 121 degrees 30' 52.46'W
Finally, Condit Dam was breached in October 2011 creating a free-flowing White Salmon river for the first time in about a hundred years. The water in front of cabin has changed dramatically as a result. We still sit right on water, but it's definitely more river than lake now - faster and a much lower channel has been dug. Still very beautiful and the river sounds are now even more pronounced - but no longer placid and simply different. Photos posted are updated to give you sense of the change. Given drop in river the bank is now pretty steep. Not death defying or anything that ominous, but you just need to be careful when walking close to the edge. Cabin is not suitable for young children due to the proximity to the river and lack of deck child precautions in place.

This was a great location and we loved the river noise, very calming. Cabin is very cozy & perfect for two. I knew that it was dog friendly but forgot my allergy meds so I would keep that in mind if you have pet allegies. Courtney was so involved and gave excellent directions.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

Beautiful, humble digs on the White Salmon River. Highlights: 1. Wood stove and firewood. 2. Screened sleeping/lounging porch. Not only is this a great, bug-free spot in the house to hang out, one can leave the door open at night (or any time of day) to get the full sound of the rushing river below. 3. Location. Right on the river, no traffic, quiet neighbors, super close to the towns of White Salmon and Hood River. 4. Our dog was able to stay with us. Lowlights: Mm, none. The owners are very honest about what they are providing and price this cabin accordingly. This ain't the Benson Hotel, nor should it be. Everything worked, there was wood for the stove, ground coffee and filters for the coffee maker, a fridge, a bathroom, a king sized bed, a great view of the reclaimed river. What more do you need?Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

Perfect retreat to "get away from it all"! My husband and I enjoyed our time on the White River and this perfect little cabin. The screened in front area was perfect for sitting and relaxing and listening to the roar of the river. Would definitely come back here! Also, the owners were so accomodating and friendly - a unique thing on VRBO.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the red cabin on the White Salmon River. The cabin had all the conveniences of home and the sound of the river outstanding! The weather was sunny and warm and there was plenty of sunshine on the deck for afternoon relaxation! The cabin road is a private drive so there is no through traffic. The surrounding countryside of the Columbia Gorge fantastic whether just going for a drive, biking, kayaking wind surfing, this part of WA has it all! On our way to the cabin we stopped in Hood River at the Double Mountain Brewery and picked up a homemade carrot cake from Megan at Pine Street Bakery. Best carrot cake ever for my hubbies birthday which is a yearly tradition! The town of White Salmon is just 7 miles away and we enjoyed yet another delicious beer at Everybody's Brewing...So much to do we want to return. Courtney was awesome in booking the cabin and even followed up to see how are stay went. Really nice and relaxing long weekend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

A comfortable cabin with great screened room right over the river - watch rafters as you dine or relax. Bathroom is off the bedroom and only separated by a curtain so best for a couple or small family. Because of recent dam removal the riverbanks will remain very raw for a while but the rushing sound is very relaxing. Deck lacks a railing so dangerous for small children. Owners very gracious and provide lots of information on activities, sights.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our too short, two night stay here! It was still pretty chilly out in April so we made good use of the wood stove (wood provided) and baseboard heaters. The cabin stayed warm and cozy throughout our stay. The place was nice and clean when we arrived, linens included, and the kitchen had all the basics for cooking, minus the food of course. The photos and information posted on this listing were up to date and it was just as we expected. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking for a rustic lodging experience! Just a side observation: While we didn't bring any dogs or children with us I did notice this cabin is very dog friendly and would be the perfect size for a family with couple of children. There was a helpful binder provided with information and directions for local grocery stores and recreation ideas. There was also a basket of booklets for local area attractions. I believe some of it was out of date, but most was helpful. We visited the nearby town of White Salmon. There are some neat shops there, and I just love 10 Speed Coffee! We also did some hiking around Catherine Creek Loop. It was beautiful scenery the entire hike! The 4.5 mile hike turned into an eight mile hike as we took a wrong turn somewhere, but it was still great. The only minor complaints I have are that there was some type of logging/construction activity across the river during the morning that interrupted the serene environment of the outdoors both mornings. We also had an issue with the light in the bathroom turning off. It seemed like it would get too hot, shut off, cool down, then turn back on. I'm sure the logging/construction will not go on forever and the light can be fixed. We would definitely come back and stay here! Oh, and did I mention the price was great!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

We had an absolutely lovely stay. The sights and sounds will immediately lull you into relaxation...from the moment you get there until the moment you leave. The river has changed immensely from what we can see and it is running like mad. The cabin is delightful. It has everything you need...highly recommended for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Spent some quiet time at the cabin and explored the new river landscape as the White Salmon reclaims its wild riverbed. This is the perfect place to carve out some time to write, hike, think, bike, and kayak. The cabin kitchen is better organized than mine...I will be back.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
