Tampa cabin description
2/1 Pole House Cabin w/ Loft
This 'Old Florida Cracker House' is a charming, lakefront pole house, located directly on this sparsely populated 27 acre lake. This lake adjoins another 64 acre lake and it is perfect for canoeing or kayaking. You can fish from the dock or just enjoy a peaceful sunset. The property is almost 2 acres and it is very quiet. The weather is beautiful during 'the season'- sunny and warm! This is a historic property and the original Cabin was built in the late 1800's and is an authentic Florida 'Pole House' with a large, flagstone fireplace. a loft with a futon couch and two bedrooms. The large bedroom has a King size bed, the smaller bedroom has a new full-size, turn of the century wood carved bed with new IKEA mattress.
There are the original hard-wood floors throughout. There is a large screened porch facing the lakefront and a private dock with expansive view of the lake. It is a great place to cook out dinner or enjoy a glass of wine and relax then roast marshmelows in the fire pit.
Kitchen and bathroom are fully equipped. There is an organic fresh-fruit and veggies market a few miles away. The Brooker Creek Preserve is nearby which supplies the water to this region.via springs and lakes. There are many Golf Courses nearby and a half dozen within 5 miles. I can even provide the guide! The sun coast trail is only a few miles away for long bike rides or walking. There is a wonderful public park for running 3 miles away and another park for various outdoor activities even closer. Owner's live on site. This is a STRICTLY NON-SMOKING property. There is WiFi (high speed internet) throughout the property and cable TV. Full bath in both with new cotton linens. We are sensitive to those with allergies.
We are not set up for large events such as weddings. Small family get-togethers are good. I am a Folk Music DJ on a Public Radio station in Tampa, so we love other music-lovers and can point the way to lots of great music events large and small. (There is a smaller, lakefront 1 Br. Apartment also available on the property with Queen Bed and Full size pull out sofa in living room).

Best Spring Training Ever
Best Spring Training Ever
Renting the Lake Echo cabin in Odessa, Fla., was the perfect solution to my annual three-week spring training baseball photo assignment. The views are even more beautiful than the pictures, it's peaceful and serene, and when I returned from working each evening, I breathed a sigh of relief just pulling into the driveway. I've rented houses in prior years, but this ranks as my all time favorite place to stay. It was nearly equidistant, about 30 to 40 minutes drive from the Yankees stadium in Tampa, the Phillies in Clearwater, and the Blue Jays in Dunedin. It's near Honeymoon Island State Park, one of my favorite Florida haunts. The cabin was larger, well-insulated and more substantial than I imagined, and was more interesting in it's construction and history. According to the owner, the late Florida Senator Claude Pepper and former Florida Governor Lawton Chiles used it as a fishing cabin. It was very well stocked with all the necessities of life--more like a bed and breakfast than a woodsy cabin, down to high-thread count sateen bed linens, fluffy towels and thoughtful and tasteful decor. If anything was missing, the owner provided it within 24 hours or less. There was hot soup on the stove and freshly made brownies on the table for my arrival, and the refrigerator was stocked with my favorite foods. How lucky can a tenant be? Being a birder, I thrilled to see a beautiful hawk land on a telephone pole outside the cabin with breakfast for it's mate the first morning and return like clockwork each day thereafter. The hawk announced it's presence by a distinctive call, so I never missed it's arrival. A beautiful pileated woodpecker visited one of the trees on the property once. There is a blueberry farm across the road and horse farms a few doors down the street. Spanish moss hangs from the trees surrounding the property. Odessa is an oasis of old Florida in the midst of new development that has ignored the original land use, but the fact that the owner is dedicated to preserving her beautiful piece of property is a testament to her solid environmental convictions. One very special highlight was attending a folk music concert because of the owner's renowned status in the Florida folk music community. I highly recommend a stay at the Lake Echo cabin, as long as I can return next year and for many years after for my annual spring training assignment!

Fabulous, relaxing, peaceful and comfortable.
Fabulous, relaxing, peaceful and comfortable.
What a wonderful find! This historic older house was quaint yet comfortable, clean and updated. The lake was quiet, fishing fabulous, and the view was better than pictures in the description. We spent most of our time either sitting on the large screened front porch or out on the dock. The location offered the best of two worlds - remote country setting in what is definitely "old Florida", yet grocery shopping, Walgreens etc were just a short drive away and Tampa cultural amenities 45 minutes. The owner went out of her way to make sure we had absolutely everything we needed. In 30 years of renting we have never been treated so well, we felt like royalty. Jeanne paid particular attention to even the smallest details (high thread count sheets, stocked bathroom, plump fluffy towels). She stocked the kitchen with enough food for our first day. For example, when she hear my husband liked biking, within hours he had a list with maps of all the local bike trails. She helped us get to a folk music house concert and gave us information on several other events where we had great fun. It honestly was like having our own private concierge. Thank you Jeanne!! Can't wait to come back.

Owner response: Karen and Gary were just the best! I felt like they were family members, and I can hardly wait until they come back. We had a great time together, and I introduced them to Cracker Barrel =) Truly made some long-time friends. This was a great start to their retirement, and they are so nice to spend time with. Karen is a hoot and Gary is so handy that I wanted her to leave him here! Thanks guys, I am so glad that you enjoyed yourselves!!

About the owner: We love music and nature and enjoy a good meal! We are music DJ's on Public Radio, and have stayed at Bed & Breakfast locations throughout the world! We welcome people that will enjoy the 'Old Florida' atmosphere. We love it here. I lived here when I was first married, then moved away and was President of The Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association in a historic neighborhood near downtown Tampa. We lived there for 30 years, raised four children who are all grown now. We decided to move out to our lake house- which happens to include several houses. It's fun to have extra houses for friends and family. If you enjoy music and nature, we'll be able to send you in the right direction!
Why the Owner Chose Tampa:
This property is the best of both worlds! It is quiet and peaceful and in the 'country'- just across the street from several acres of a Blueberry Farm, yet there is always so much to do in Tampa, only 30 minutes to downtown center with lots of great theater and music events, interesting museums and lots of many restaurants of all kinds. The beaches are nearby, as is Tarpon Springs, a sleepy Greek town with great food! Downtown St. Petersburg is really growing to be a destination in itself with great dining and museums- a very clean, and well-planned city. The great thing about this location is that you get the best of both worlds- if you want to keep busy, there are plenty of things to do. We are so centrally located that you could head any direction to find things to do. We are very convenient to activities, but you can just come out and relax and enjoy the beautiful Florida sunshine and weather- you will know why so many people move to Florida in the winter! It is gorgeous here!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The weather is beautiful, the lake is peaceful and inviting and the location offers the best of both worlds - convenient to everything yet still in the 'country' on a property at the end of a cul de sac. There is great music and warm weather- who could want more! While the owner is onsite, we try to give you a lot of space for quiet rest and relaxation. We'll have plenty of suggestions for entertainment!
