Our family spent a very nice Memorial Day Weekend at "abby's place" and it was fantastic. Rob and Carol have a wonderful home and the location was perfect. There was plenty of space for the 9 of us as the bedrooms and other spaces were large. The front porches overlooking the lake were perfect to sip on coffee in the morning and wine in the evening! There is a private road out front that goes along the lake and has very little traffic, which allows you to take a slow stroll, a nice jog, or an enjoyable bike ride. Location is great as this is in the middle of wine country, including just minutes from a few.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for the warm review. We are glad to hear that all nine could be accommodated as we tend to see the house ideally suited for 8 or fewer. The Finger Lakes region is such a great place to visit; and we are glad to hear that the winery tours hit the spot! And....yes....drinking wine and watching the sun set from the two porches is truly wonderful. Thanks.

About the owner: Growing up in upstate New York and spending time on the finger lakes, I developed an appreciation of all that the creeks, waterfalls, beaches and woods had to offer. Only after circling the world and living abroad did I really know how wonderful a place like Keuka Lake is. And now I get to share it all with you. I designed this house to be a place of peace and friendship, and for the past four years have been building it. It comes alive when guests arrive, settle in and begin to appreciate the sunsets, the spacious airiness of rooms and porches and one or our great local wines. I was raised as a competitive junior sailor, so today there are three sailboats on the buoys or near by. I love sunrises, steaming hot mugs of coffee and the sounds of the lake and birds at sunrise. Beside raising a bunch of kids, I also raised Labradors. Abby, a chocolate lab is my constant companion and official greeter. My careers have been in local government, the US Army, and teaching at Cornell University. Lately, I have devoted a lot of attention to civic and fraternal organizations, my guests at Abby's Place, and facilitating leadership seminars. This year I am starting wine making, and have begun cultivating wine grapes on the many arbors around the hot tub and gardens. Carol (pictured) and I have a great love for sailing, environmental preservation and sustainability. Both of us make our homes available for guests now that our children have moved on. Helping new friends appreciate our Keuka Lake is something we both enjoy. We enjoy the arts and can direct you to seasonal playhouses, concerts in the park, special events at local wineries, and of course, those hard to find, fabulous dining experiences. We know the wholistic health community as well and can direct you to organic farms or arrange for a masseuse to help you relieve stress.
Why the Owner Chose Penn Yan:
This property is ideally suited for three generations; not for large reunion groups sleeping everywhere. The kitchen is for preparing special dinners.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house was designed to accommodate special needs of guests. Radiant heated floors make winter visits warm. Ceiling fans and huge expanses of opening windows, HEPA filtered air systems, Air Conditioning, and Sleep Comfort beds are all to cater to the discriminating needs of guests. The beach is rustic, but highly functional for anyone bringing a boat or swimming off the dock. The home's location on the east side of Keuka Lake gives guests dozens of activities within a twenty minute drive. In summer it is the famous Windmill Market or a easy day long cycle around Keuka Lake. In the winter, it is ice fishing or XC skiing on the Keuka Outlet Trail. Gold Medal wines can be tasted and bought year round at dozens of wineries, all within thirty minutes.
For the most discriminating guests arrangements for massages in the therapy room are possible; and for the golfer, guests have access most days to the challenging 18 hole course at Lakeside Country Club as the owner's guests.
The house is situated on a nearly level narrow lakeside macadam road which serves only cottages. This five mile stretch of road is ideal for walking, rollerblading or jogging.
Trophy bass, pike, lake trout and pan fish can be caught within 200 feet of the end of the dock. The camp fire on the beach at night is always special, and the huge gas grill is more than large enough for the adventuresome chef. Unique to this side of the lake are spectacular sunsets and cool mornings. The great room is the hub of activity for families.
