This house is a great place for a quite getaway. It is well built and is one of the few houses to survive the many hurricanes we have had since the 70's. There are nice views of the beach in front and the lagoon behind it as it is located center island. Dauphin Island is 7 miles in length and has Fort Gaines (civil war) at it's eastern end. Catch the ferry across Mobile Bay to enjoy Fort Morgan and the many amenities and sites in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. It is a short drive to Bellingrath Gardens and Home. A must see as there is something beautiful in bloom year round. Charter, surf and pier fishing are available on the island. Swim, golf and dine at the Isle Dauphine Club. The DI Sea Lab, Estuarium, bird sanctuary are of great interest to nature lovers of all ages. The island is small enough that biking is a great way to get around and see the sites. Of course the island is known for it's white sand beaches, shelling and riding the waves in the surf.
There is something of interest and fun for the entire family. So come on down and give us a try.

My family (3 kids under 12) and I had great fun staying in this eclectic beach house. The decor is a mixture of feudal castle and beach house, with lots of great quiet spots to sit and read. Our kids loved the high attic / loft area where they could escape to and play games. It was a 2 minute stroll to the beach across the street. A great "wheel barrow" was provided which enabled us to easily cart a bunch of stuff to the beach each day. The bikes were handy too. The beach was fantastic - very quiet and a great safe beach for kids with super waves and beautiful white sand. The water is very nice and pretty much clear. Saw lots of dolphin pods in the mornings and evenings. Great place for walk in the evenings. The whole island is VERY much non-commercial and very quiet. There are no franchise/chain restaurants, but there is a lack of choice of places to eat. There are some excellent sites to visit including the Estuarium, Fort Gaines, the Ferry to Gulf shores (which is way too hectic and commercial) and so on. Plenty things to do to have a fun week without ANY crowds. Great vacation spot overall.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

The property was just as described if not better! It was beautifully furnished and had everything we needed. It was like having your own private beach. We were there over the 4th of July weekend and it still was very quiet and peaceful! Nice surrounding area with very quaint restaurants and bars!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.
