Adjacent to the Nature Reserve, on a hilltop in Barrio Monte Carmelo; sleeps up to 6 with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 large wrap-around terraces with an outdoor dining area and built-in gas grill. Our beautiful, architecturally-designed home offers incredible views in all directions with breezes to match. Wake up in the glorious morning to unobstructed views of the Reserve and the island of Culebra, and even St. John and St. Croix on a clear day, or have a cocktail on the front balcony while you watch the lights of Vieques and main-island Puerto Rico twinkle in the distance. The countryside location is in the center of the island so you can be just about anywhere in 5-20 minutes — from the island's best beaches to restaurants and shopping. Our Viequense neighbors are friendly and respond in kind to a smile and a wave. Friendly dogs, wandering chickens and free-roaming horses are all a part of day-to-day life in Monte Carmelo, so if an insulated resort-like experience is what you're looking for, then our house is not for you. But if you are looking to experience real-life Vieques in the comfort of a safe and stylish house, then we have no doubt you will love it here. Free wifi and hard-wired computer access. In high season, if only the master bedroom is rented with the house, the per-night rate is reduced to $185 from $200 for all 3 bedrooms. In lo-season it is $150 per night for 1-3 bedrooms. Note there is always only 1 party in the house at a time.

We recently returned from a trip to Vieques where we stayed for 5 nights in this beautiful house. We had a wonderful experience, the house was everything promised and more. The owner, Perri, was so easy to work with, she responded promptly to all our e-mails and kept us posted on a possible problem with the ferry before our arrival (check into this if you are planning to take the ferry, we ended up flying instead). We found the listing to be very accurate, and in fact the house is even more striking than the photos suggest. As promised, it sits up on hill in a residential neighborhood. The house is open and airy, very artfully decorated with beautiful tile floors throughout (including the bathrooms, laundry room and all the bedrooms). All the rooms are very spacious, with plenty of room to spread out and relax. The large deck facing the back looks out over the hills to the ocean in the distance. The deck has the perfect mix of sun and shade for reading during the day and star-watching at night. Another large deck is accessible upstairs off the master bedroom with the same fantastic view. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed to prepare a meal and Perri left a detailed list of suggestions for favorite restaurants, shopping, and beaches, all within a 15-20 min drive from the house. There were so many nice extra touches, snorkeling gear, beach towels, small toiletries in each bathroom, books and magazines to browse, board games, cards. the list goes on! The house manager, Miriam, was always available, first to meet us when we arrived and later when we needed to replace the gas tank that serviced the stove and grill. She came over immediately and managed to arrange a replacement even though it was a Sunday. She was very cheerful and efficient and let us know many times that she was here to help with anything that came up. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who is looking for an exceptionally beautiful home to enjoy the feeling and rhythm of the island. This is not an isolated, full service resort, there are neighbors nearby, we were treated to singing from Abe next door (along with a fantastic kayak tour of the BioBay). You will have roosters and coqui frogs also serenading you. We enjoying feeling part of the local life and would recommend lunches at Sol Food (parked at the entrance to the Nature Reserve beaches). We're looking forward to returning to Vieques and would definitely stay here again. Thank you Perri!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I recently stayed at El Dormilon for part of our honeymoon and we could not have chosen a better house on Vieques! The house is spacious, very well-kept, and is decorated in a Spanish/Latin American style with beautiful tile work. You cannot grasp the full beauty of the property or the view from photos. There is a front deck for watching the sunset and two back decks for watching the sunrise. The views from the back are spectacular as you look on the refuge and the ocean. There is a constant breeze from the east to keep the house cool and bug free! The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals and there's a very nice grilling area right off the kitchen. We also had everything we needed for the beach, with chairs, a cooler, snorkel gear, etc. We found the neighborhood, Monte Carmelo, to be very convenient to the beaches and town. It is an authentic neighborhood, with many dogs, chickens, and horses wandering about. If you are not keen on waking up to barking dogs and crowing roosters around 5am, bring earplugs. The house manager, Miriam, was very helpful and attentive, and the home owner Perri was wonderful to work with. We will definitely stay at El Dormilon on our future visits to Vieques!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This house was perfect. Even better than in the pictures. It was perfectly clean and every floor opens to porches for perfect open living. The views and breezes are amazing. It is a perfect place to cook (the kitchen was very nicely equipped and there is a small outdoor kitchen as well) or just relax in the hammock with a glass of wine. Perri was very helpful and provided a detailed list of restaurant reviews and local information. Miriam, the local house manager, was wonderful. The beds and linens were very comfortable. There is also laundry, beach chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling gear. They really have everything you might need. We were very happy with the location. The house is in a nice local neighborhood. We loved this. We often drove to the small town square after dinner where our son would play with other children. It is a little drive to the more touristy town, but we preferred the closer local town anyway. Everything is close on the island, but a car is really needed for getting to the nicest beaches and shopping. There are a few things you might consider when deciding if this is the right vacation and house for you. There are close neighbors, who you can hear and, particularly, a rooster that seems to crow often, even at night. We did not find any of these things bothersome, on the contrary, it was nice to be in a neighborhood. However, be aware that if you are looking for a private estate, this is not it. Second, the lower level (with the smaller bedrooms and a bath) is separated from the main house, with a separate garden entrance. This was perfect for us, as we were able to have space, however, it would not be an ideal arrangement with young kids alone in the small bedrooms. It is ideal for two couples or two small families, as it provides great privacy. The other issue is not specific to the house, but island-wide, food is expensive and not fantastic. If you love to cook and eat, this is not an great island. You can get most of what you need, but everything is expensive and fresh quality produce, fish, etc is hard to find and the restaurants are only okay. Perri provides great recommendations, but the choices are limited. If you like to cook, try to arrive just before the weekly farmers' market and stock up! It is a reallly perfect house. You can tell that this is someones house, not just a rental, it is loved and cared for, and everything is comfortable and of a nice quality. We can not wait to return!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My wife and I stayed in this wonderful house for 8 nights in February. The views from the main deck are outstanding, the perfect place to enjoy a meal, have a drink, and unwind. The master suite upstairs also has amazing views from its balcony -- you can open the two sets of double doors and look out at the rolling hills and sea from the very comfortable king-sized bed. It's spectacular. Friends stayed with us for the first few nights of our trip and were very comfortable and pleased with the two downstairs bedrooms (do note that they share a bath). The house is well-appointed indoors and out. The house was in great shape upon our arrival, with fresh linens, freshly made beds, and plenty of toys/chairs/etc. to bring to the beach. Perri, the owner, also went out of her way to ensure that we'd have a beach umbrella, which was very nice of her to do. We cooked dinner at the house on a few nights and had everything we needed. As for the grounds, there are beautiful flowers in the front and fruit trees in the back--all of which are in great shape. Miriam, the local contact for the house, was very helpful, friendly, and easy to work with. Perri, the homeowner, was incredibly easy to work with. We exchanged numerous emails and she was always prompt to respond and went out of her way to help ensure that we had all that we needed. The bottom line is that we would enthusiastically recommend this house to friends and family and are already looking forward to returning ourselves.Did you find this review helpful? "We had our best vacation in Vieques and to top it off we stayed at this amazing house. It's in a perfect location close to the beaches and biobay tours. The views are amazing to just sit down and drink your morning coffee. I had no problems during my stay and will definitely stay at the house when I come back to Vieques."Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

"From day one we decided that we should spend at least one full day enjoying the house, the view and BBQ possibilities instead of going to beach or driving around. And that we indeed did. We especially enjoyed late breakfasts on the terrace under the morning sun and warm breeze, as well as just laying there on beach chairs/hammock and reading. Even though it might seem from the map that the house is not situated very close to Isabel II, the drive there, to Esperanza and even to the furthest beaches took us not more than 10-15 minutes. To sum it up - it is the house with incredible view and all the possibilities one can wish for to spend an enjoyable and carefree vacation."Did you find this review helpful? The flowers I picked in the magical gardens of El Dormillon still sit on my bedside table reminding me of the fabulous 10 days I spent there this past Christmas Holiday with my husband and two teenaged children. The house is even more grand than it appears in the photos and it has all the amenities promised with a few extra surprises. We woke up to spectacular sun rises over the lush preserve bordering the property and enjoyed long leisurely breakfasts on the expansive verandas which wrap the house upstairs and down. It was hard to leave every day but the list of fun adventures lured us out. We had a transporting evening of kayaking with Abe's Adventures which we very conveniently booked just next door. One day we had a delightful horseback ride with Taxi Horse Tours where we road through the surf and ran in the sand. Another, my kids and I spent paddle boarding and snorkeling with Vieques Paddleboarding while my husband rode the circumference of the island on a road bike rented from Island Adventures. Each day we ended on the beach diving into the crystal clear water and sunning on the nearly deserted beaches. We had fabulous meals at El Quenepo, Conucu and Sorce but our favorite meals where cooked in the very well equipped indoor and outdoor kitchens at the house. The owners had left us an excellent personal guide to the island which included a list of local food sources which led us to the charming gourmet shop Buon Provecho, the small but lovely farmer's market and the funky yet convenient local fruit and vegetable truck. We spend most evenings on the back patio overlooking the preserve eating fantastic food serenaded by the coqui frogs, gazing up at the stars. The caretaker,Miriam, was always available and extremely attentive. The owners had left detailed instructions and lists but when we did have a question, they were very easy to reach and immediately helpful. My only hesitation in recommending this outstanding property is that it may become too popular and not available when I want to return!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Fantastic house…great location! My friend and I took our Christmas holiday here…it was two weeks of heaven. The house has spectacular views both from the upstairs bedroom deck (I could have just stayed here and painted all day) and the living room and kitchen decks are equally wonderful. Because it is so high on the hill, you get some wonderful breezes. The house lends itself perfectly for candlelit dinners or large cocktail parties, both of which we did! The most gorgeous selection of beaches are only 5 minutes away by car. Great swimming and snorkeling, and the temperature was exquisite throughout are entire vacation. There are great restaurants nearby. But don't miss the 'Trade Winds' killer margaritas and fresh grilled fish! In short….can't wait to go back and stay here again!Did you find this review helpful? The Views are amazing. Million Dollar views! We loved Vieques! If you like all inclusive controlled environment resort this is not for you . We consider ourselves travelers not tourists. I love to cook and enjoyed the fresh fish from the fishermen’s dock, fresh island fruit and the local gourmet shop Buen Probecho. We enjoyed the Esperanza Riding Company and the beaches. Oh… The beaches are great. You need a car. Rent a little Subaru or Kia jeep. If you miss El Resuelve’s Epanadas you have made a mistake. Google El Resuelve, Empanadas and Vieques. Anyway the views and ocean breezes from the house are among the best you will ever experience in your life! The house is such a wonderful value…Did you find this review helpful?
