This was a magical vacation. Our family decided it had been too long since we had all convened around our 83-year-old mother, and Amelia had been long recommended by a family friend. I found this property online, and felt like I won the lottery. First off, Amelia is a magnificent place: it's lush, has long, white sand beaches that were never crowded it's full of wildlife and the general community is conscientious of preserving the environment. The Plantation, where this house is located, is full of conveniences. You can have access to some of the hotel amenities by purchasing a pass through the owner. This is good for getting little kids to the pool, or for going to work out at the gym and tennis courts. The beach is within walking distance, perfect for a sunrise trip, or you can rent bikes, or a golf cart or a Segway (If that's your thing-HA!) and get around the property. If all that can't be done, as was a challenge for our mom, you can use the Omni Hotel Tram, it takes you wherever you want on the property free of charge. A short cab ride can take you into downtown Fernandina Beach, you can go by the marina, look at the old homes, and a fun family trip to the museum Mi Casa is an elegantly appointed home, lovingly kept. Everything you could ever, ever need want is there. The kitchen has everything that I use in my own Brooklyn kitchen, and then some. We were able to prepare special meals without any hassle. The rooms are all spacious, private, well decorated. The furniture in the home is a beautiful, nothing flimsy- usable antique, most of it. You will love even just sitting quietly in the family room looking around the house - this made a huge impact on our comfort ability for the week. The offices have strong Wi-Fi, if you need to check in with work. The owner was promptly responsive to every query we had while we were there, and was very helpful as we got stuck during the storm. We had a fantastic end of summer together at this property; we are planning to be back there next summer for sure! ****One note: if you plan to do lots cooking, and don't have a car, you can get a taxi into Fernandina Beach and shop at Publix or stay near Amelia and go to Harris Teeter. There is one Natural Foods, market not listed in any registries, Nassau Health food, it's not far from AIP we found it on our last few days...it has a vegan cafe and it's excellent!Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+.
