My family recently stayed at this charming bungalow and we loved it! Sarah and Andrew were wonderful hosts! The house was perfect for our first vacation to Seattle. My husband and I love to stay in vacation rentals as opposed to hotels so we have experienced all kinds of places. Bloomsbury House is the BEST!! There were so many relaxing spaces – the living room, kitchen, dining room, front and back yard – and wow, the master bedroom suite upstairs!! That is my favorite place – so peaceful and quiet. The pictures on the website depict the house, but not its warmth and charm – that’s to be experienced while you are there. GREAT AMENITIES! Including a fully stocked kitchen (just about every dish, pot, gadget you can think of!), espresso machine with detailed user instructions, fresh herbs, organic soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner, dishwasher, front loading washer and dryer, comfortable beds (tempurpedic/memory-foam), fluffy pillows, nice, clean linens, claw foot bathtub in the master suite, books, movies, music, wireless internet, board games, snacks, baby crib, changing table, high chair, toys…and a working fireplace!! We were able to cook our own meals with ease! The house was very clean and well-maintained (which is nice – not all vacation rentals are clean or taken care of) and also very tastefully decorated. We loved the art and obvious attention that Sarah and Andrew have given this home. Each room has its own creative charm and feel. They also have a Welcome Book that has information about the house, neighborhood, parking, things to do in Seattle, etc. Very helpful. Great location - close to the U-District, downtown, Seattle Center, Capitol Hill, etc. You are also a short walk away from the grocery store, shopping and lots of restaurants. We will definitely be back and we will also be telling ALL of our family/friends about our experience!! On a side note, I was really saddened when I read the one negative review. I just don’t see how anyone could say this about Sarah and Andrew. My husband and I found no issue with the contract/rules and we found Sarah and Andrew to be very kind and generous. Following the rules (i.e. leaving the house tidy) is just part of staying in a vacation rental. Go with us on this one – Bloomsbury offers a wonderful stay!! Thank you again Sarah and Andrew! Laissez les bons temps rouler!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This home was perfect for our group of 5 adults attending a destination wedding. It was immaculate and homey with everything you could want from nice lotion, organic soaps fleece throw covers to a fully stocked kitchen. We especially appreciated the computer with printer so we could print off our boarding passes for the flight home. AND who doesn't love comfy soft gel foam mattresses?! For warmer weather, there is a cute little deck in the back yard. We just had a fabulous experience in this darling home. (The one caution is that there are stairs to climb if one needs the basement bedroom or laundry or the upstairs bedroom.)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This house is owned by an art teacher and some of the "art" is pretty scary. A huge painting hangs over the desk that is of a "human" with brown colored wings. The head that lays sideways on the bookcase scared my grandson and reminded me of a decapitation. (We turned it to face the back.) The house rules are EXTENSIVE AND IMPOSED TO THE LETTER!!! Before you sign a contract, get a complete copy of the RULES and and inventory of all of the items and the dollar value attached thereto. The owners charge for "cleaning" but if they have to actually clean they charge extra. They also tried to charge me for a toy that can be purchased for one-third of the requested amount. I said I would replace it but since I legally owned the item when they charge me for it, I would expect it to be delivered before I paid/replaced it. It never arrived. Also some of the toys are antiques and I can't imagine what the charge would be for that one. You are expected to NOT wear shoes in the house; we were not advised to bring slippers nor were they furnished. ADVICE: Re-write the contract; get an inventory (with assigned value of the items); get a complete set of the rules; don't bring more than 2 cars since there is no parking on the side of the street where the house is located. LASTLY: Find another rentalOwner response: We do our best to create a comfortable, clean, artistic and serene environment at Bloomsbury House. We understand that not all of the artwork will be to everyone’s taste. Most guests complement the beauty of our home when they arrive, including this guest. We also pride ourselves in fulfilling our guests’ expectations without unpleasant surprises. That is why we include our simple house rules in the pre-arrival information we send out as well as posting the check-out procedures in the home. We do not expect our guests to clean the house. Vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms and laundry are all covered by our cleaning fee. However, dirty pots and pans and plates left in the oven or soaking in the sink are not covered. We feel it is reasonable to expect guests to clean up after cooking and eating. We do provide a dishwasher for that purpose. We don’t like to add any additional charges but we feel that the $50 additional cleaning fee was warranted for this particularly unpleasant mess. We found this guest quite unreasonable in her demand that we ship items she broke to her before she would accept paying a damage fee. And even though she admitted causing the damage, in the end we did not charge her the $20.00 we initially asked for the broken items – (including our Vintage Westminster Newton Cradle device).

What a treat to be with our family in Seattle. The chance to be in a real home, added to the comfort and relaxation for all. The word home really does say it all. It is well equiped, appointed and really does feel like home. The location is so handy. There is a beautiful park nearby and our family took advantage of that. The shopping convenience made the little "I need" trips easy. The owners are very nice and helpful. They were there to greet us, brief and aquaint us with the house, and followed up to see if we needed any thing. All in all, a super time!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Andrew arrived as our rental minivan was pulling up to the property and "automagically" opened the one-car garage (which, unfortunately, did not really fit a Toyota Sienna :( ) There's usually parking along the opposite side of the street, so no problems there. Andrew was very friendly and gave a good tour of the house to get us settled in. The listing and photos definitely reflect the property; everything's clean and, coupled with the somewhat old neighborhood, provides a charming, quiet, cozy, lived-in feel. If you like heads, the art and some decorative pieces around the house will definitely appeal to you. The plethora of organic toiletries and foodstuff in the pantry definitely appealed to us, and the fast, stable WiFi was very welcome. Would've loved to enjoy the Comcast and good selection of board games, but our schedule didn't give us much time for that. The property is within walking distance to University Village and Krua (Thai restaurant), amongst other places. Also easy to get to the I-5, and no need to freak out about crossing a toll bridge like the 520 cause you won't hit the toll portion. Overall, a nice, cozy, comparatively affordable property that's great for families… Oh yeah, no need to freak out about the high security deposit, we got ours back in full!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children.

My family rented the Bloomsbury house for our 6 day stay in Seattle. There were 7 of us (4 adults and 3 children, ages 1-4). The house was ideal. There was plenty of comfortable space. We appreciated the internet access and infant set up with crib, changing table, and high chair. The house was very clean and tastefully decorated. The front yard and back yard also provided a nice space to relax. The house was also ideally located so we can venture to the city and into Kirkland and Bellevue without difficulty. Highly recommended and if given another chance would stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Clean, quiet, private, well appointed, nicely furnished, beautifully decorated, comfortable...the Bloomsbury House has EVERYTHING you would ever think to ask for AND MORE. Sarah and Andrew are most welcoming and generous hosts...fresh flowers, stocked kitchen, toiletries, much more than the basics and quality throughout...even art supplies, children's books and toys for our very pleased, young daughter! I own/manage five vacation rentals at home in Montana and over the past 5 years (18 trips to Seattle Children's) I have rented many of the vacation rentals in the Ravenna/University area. I can honestly say The Bloomsbury House is hands down THE BEST. Finally, I have found the place I will enjoy returning to next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our family of 5 stayed at his house for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay there. It is a beautiful, clean, well-maintained house in a lovely neighbourhood. Our vehicle was too large to fit in the garage, however there was always parking available on the street. We were very impressed with the attention to detail in the house to make our stay more special such as snacks and milk in the fridge, a bouquet on the dining room table, a book with information about what to do in Seattle, music to listen to in the kitchen, comfortable beds and soap and shampoo available for us to use. Sarah and Andrew were friendly, helpful owners and great to deal with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
