The Villa Oasis - Great Camanoe Island, BVI

The Villa Oasis - situated only 100 feet above the water - high enough to command the 'Most beautiful view in the Caribbean,” yet close enough to stroll to the water's edge at the end of your driveway and enjoy the serene beach, private boat dock and clear, turquoise bay. All rooms have sea views. No traffic, and no need to drive to get to the water - but a 4-wheel drive Honda CRV (jeep-type) automatic comes with the house, just in case you desire it.*

From your private base at The Villa Oasis, explore our surrounding seas; discover pristine beaches, intimate views and the adventure of the tropics, or just spend the afternoon in a hammock. Get reacquainted with life’s simple pleasures.

Play on soft, white sand under the shade of palm trees, collect unique sea shells, watch tropical fish from the dock as pelicans dive for their dinner, dine on the terrace with a view of seven islands, admire boats of all types sailing into the protected bay, and visit with cruising mariners from far away ports. Motorboat to small restaurants & beachfront bars – drift thru art & craft galleries - shop for tropical apparel & gifts. Join the nightlife, sing to live music played frequently at nearby Marina Cay (Pusser’s Hotel & Bar), Bellamy Cay (The Last Resort), Scrub Island (Mainsail Resort & Spa) or Trellis Bay (De Loose Mongoose). Boat across bay to The Baths at Virgin Gorda - sail, swim, snorkel, dive & fish in your front yard, or just watch it all from the comfort of your home.

An 18 foot motorboat with Bimini top, private dock space, and a private mooring ball for larger boats are all part of your luxury at The Villa Oasis.* Kite & windsurfing boards and fishing equipment are for rent at nearby Trellis Bay. Deep sea fishing expeditions, bareboat or crewed boat charters may be arranged with Villa Oasis bookings (to include discounts) or independently. Beachfront bars, restaurants, gift shops and a small grocery store are a short boat-ride away.

All rooms, including bedrooms, have water views. Master bedroom has king size bed, the two other bedrooms have queen beds. Each bedroom has its own full bath, air conditioning and ceiling fan, while the south-eastern exposure catches cooling trade winds that make A/C typically unnecessary. An idyllic location, only a 5 minute boat ride to the airport, yet Villa Oasis does not overlook the airport and does not face the development on Scrub Island. Accessible to everything in the BVI, but a world apart from the noise and hassle of Tortola. Upon arrival at Tortola Airport (Beef Island- EIS), there is no need for a taxi. Just walk east about 100 meters to the boat dock in front of the quaint Trellis Bay Market for your scheduled transport to The Villa Oasis.

* Please Note: For use of the boat, experience with and knowledge of basic, small power boat handling is absolutely required.

Great Camanoe, a relatively small, privately owned island about 2.5 miles long and a half mile to a mile wide, is one the most beautiful islands in the Virgin Islands archipelago. It has various small bays, coves and beaches, and lies just 2 miles northeast of Tortola (and the airport), the capital and largest island of the BVI. Gt Camanoe is located between the sister islands of Tortola, Beef, Little Camanoe, Scrub, Marina Cay and Virgin Gorda. It has only about 40 seasonal residences. The inhabited portion of Great Camanoe is divided into two residential communities: Privateers Bay, nestled between the beaches and hills on the less developed national park side of the island, and the more densely developed Indigo Plantation, on the western side of the island facing Tortola Airport. Both communities sit on the southern half of Camanoe Island, with the larger northern half of the island being completely undeveloped. Access to the island is by private boat only. Fast commercial ferry boats leave from Trellis Bay (Beef Is.) to Virgin Gorda. Smaller ferries from Trellis Bay to Scrub Island and Marina Cay are free.

While Great Camanoe provides romance & tranquility, the nearby environs offer a whirl of adventure, excitement and pleasure:

- Marina Cay, a flower covered island ringed by white sand beaches is just about swimming distance from The Villa Oasis. Here sits the famous Pusser's bar & restaurant, and a not-to-be missed Caribbean style lunch and dinner experience. Evening music & entertainment at the bar on the top of the island, fantastic beach for swimming & diving. The unique Pusser's Store offers tropical apparel & nautical gifts.

- Mainsail resort, spa & marina on Scrub Island is 2-3 minutes from the Villa Oasis dock. Amenities include:

• Bar & Fine Restaurant • Swimming Pool / Spa & Fitness Center
• Boat Rentals • Excursions: deep-sea fishing; snorkeling, SCUBA
• Yacht Charters • Retail Shops

- The last resort on Bellamy Cay in Trellis Bay, 3 minutes from The Villa Oasis. Memorable dinner theater & cabaret; small fun bar. What a gem!

- The loose mongose. Fun BVI beachfront bar & restaurant on shore of nearby Trellis Bay.

The british virgin islands

The British Virgin Islands, awarded by Caribbean Travel & Leisure Magazine as the 'Best of the Caribbean,' is comprised of about 60 tropical Caribbean islands. The BVI is located in the Virgin Islands archipelago, just a few miles east of the U.S. Virgin Islands and 60 miles east of Puerto Rico. Most the islands are volcanic in origin, have rugged, mountainous terrain, and afford magnificent sea views. Only about 15 are inhabited. Secluded coves and bays abound, and many islands have spectactular beaches.

Overall outstanding vacation spot. The location is perfect (if you are into tropical waters) and are not looking for resort type intertainment. The Villa is very attractive and perfect for 2 or 3 couples or a family of 6. A special treat is the use of the 18" outboard boat for exploring various snorkeling spots or taking advantage of some of the things to do on nearby islands. My wife and I hosted two other couples with whom we have traveled before (Mexico, Bahamas, Spain) and everyone said this was the best trip we had had.

Our family, joined by a series of friends, stayed a the villa for a two month sabbatical last season. We had a wonderful time. Having a house and a boat (or two) is perfect for the islands, and almost impossible to find. The villa is nicely furnished and appointed. There is plenty of space for a large family with visiting guests. The property manager, Carlos, is extremely helpful and responds to calls and questions quickly and efficiently. Carlos’s wife is the housekeeper, and she manages to keep the home clean and tidy even when large groups are in the home. It is a joy to sit outside on the patio overlooking Marina Cay in the mornings and evenings. The views from the patio are unobstructed and stunning. The appliances are in good working order and the kitchen, though small by US standards, is adequate for preparing meals for large groups. The “house car” is fun to drive up and down the hill to the home and came in very handy when we had lots of gear or groceries to haul. It is in good working order. There are some wonderful hikes around Great Camano that every guest should take advantage of. Carlos was very helpful to us when we were trying to find our way around to some great views at the top of the island. From the top of the island, the views of the BVI are incredible. Marina Cay is conveniently located just minutes away from the dock, and the Pusser’s ferry will even pick you up at the dock and take you directly to dinner and back home later in the evening. For a small fee, the Pusser’s ferry will pick you up and take you to the East End or to The Last Resort, a not-to-be-missed restaurant on a small island in Trellis Bay. The Buckaroo, the boat that comes with the house, is fine for taking short day trips around Great Camano island, to The Dogs, Marina Cay, the East End of Tortola and even the Baths on a calm day. However, if you want to take trips out to other islands in the BVI, the Buckaroo is not sufficient. For trips to Norman, Cooper, the West End of Tortola, Jost van Dyke or even the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, you need a larger and faster boat than the Buckaroo. For short one or two week trips to the BVI, this should not be an issue. We were at Villa Oasis for two months and ended up renting a larger, larger boat for day trips. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Oasis and would recommend it to others as a lovely family home with magnificent views and great proximity to lots of great snorkeling and day trips.

My wife and I stayed at The Villa Oasis twice: first in the spring of 2011 and again last fall, but this is our first review. Having lived in Asia and Latin America we’ve seen some romantic sights, but have also found that many places don’t live up to their photos. In respect to The Villa Oasis, the opposite is surely true. The setting is even more gorgeous than the photos convey. The home is a lovely Caribbean villa with truly stunning ocean views from every room. Walk down the driveway and you’re on a sandy beach at the edge of a clear, turquoise sea. Beachcombing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing are all there: in front of the Villa, from the private dock, around the island, or while skippering the Villa’s boat named Buckaroo II to nearby islands – every day is a pleasant adventure. The surrounding little islands offer lots of site seeing, beach-side bars and barefoot luxury, but the best part of our stay was coming back to the Villa at day’s end and dining on the broad terrace. Seeing the sky change from blazing blue to deep cobalt, and sipping tropical drinks while watching the lights on sail boats pierce the growing dusk were our most memorable moments. For dinner or lunch, we recommend Marina Cay (the small island in the Villa’s “front yard” that’s a quick boat-ride away). Also, for lunch try Main Sail on Scrub Island (just around the corner by boat, but dinner is expensive. De Lose Mongoose on Trellis Bay is great too. And you’ll have a fabulous time at The Last Resort on Bellamy Cay in Trellis Bay (but music doesn’t start until after 9 pm). We love The Villa Oasis and plan to return.

Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.

The Villa Oasis provided a fantastic spot for us to enjoy the BVI and the 19' boat gave us mobility between islands, beaches and snorkeling spots. It was wonderful to have the freedom to go where we wanted and th Villa Oasis itself exceeded our expectations. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

Enjoyed a great week at The Villa Oasis. Two couples shared this very comfortable and well-appointed home. The weather was very nice, but the winds were a little high causing the seas to be a little too rough for much exploring by boat. We still had a great experience. We especially enjoyed our trip to Virgin Gorda with the Dive BVI group on Scrub Island. Thanks for sharing this wonderful home!

This was our second stay at the Villa Oasis on Great Camanoe Island in the British Virgins - we previously visited in 2011. My wife and I absolutely LOVE the BVI and especially the Villa Oasis, so we returned again for another week. This magnificent paradise offers about everything you could want in a Caribbean vacation. We enjoyed boating and snorkeling daily in the clear, warm tropical waters, and never stopped admiring the beautiful fish in the coral reefs. The spectacular views from the house have to be experienced to be believed. At each day's end, we just relaxed on the Lanai with a glass of wine and enjoyed the therapeutic healing powers of the environment. The Villa's boat offers a great way to explore some of the other nearby islands. We went to Virgin Gorda to snorkel and hike, and swam at The Baths - a must see. We also took the ferry from Trellis Bay over to The Bitter End Yacht Club, a very beautiful resort on Virgin Gorda with restaurants, pubs and shops. The Villa Oasis is spacious, clean, private and well maintain, and it provides all the amenities and comforts of home. If you're interested in dining out, Pusser's at Marina Cay offers delicious fresh caught seafood entrees at reasonable prices. The British telephone booth at the Pusser's fuel station has a live web cam that takes your picture and provides a fun and unique way of capturing the moment. We plan on returning to the Villa, exploring other islands we have yet see, and Scuba diving at some of the famous wrecks and dive spots. If this is not the most beautiful place on earth, it’s got to be close.

I have been coming to Camanoe for over 40 years and have stayed in numerous houses. This is by far the best rental accommodations on the island as well as a great value. Owner is very responsive and accommodating. Everything was in great working order including the boat which is very critical to staying on the island.

The Villa Oasis is just as it is pictured on the website! Lovely views and comfy for all of us. And we even had a 2 year old with us! The quiet beach at the bottom of the driveway was perfect for us-we could play in the sand and take turns snorkeling. The car made it easy to get back and forth when we had gear to carry and the wee one. The boat was perfect and we had fun going over to Marina Cay for lunch and swimming and more snorkeling. We also loved going to Scrub Island Resort for a good lunch and a swim in their pool. We never went anywhere at night because we aren't that comfortable driving the boat in the dark, so we cooked and watched movies. The couple who take care of the house and grounds were very pleasant and quick to answer their cell phone when we had a question. The owners were so eager to please that when they heard we were bringing a 2 year old they bought a brand new crib for her! We loved our very laid back, happy week at the Villa Oasis.

We were aware that August is not the best time of year to visit the BVI and we did have to deal with Issac, (the hurricane, not the bartender from the "Love Boat")! I would like to say that the owner of Villa Oasis was concerned that not everything was P-E-R-F-E-C-T while we were on holiday there and he was more than fair to us, for which we were extremely grateful. You can be comfortable knowing that the owner will look out for you.

Owner response: Hurricane Isaac started as a strong, slow-moving tropical storm in late-August, 2012, when it passed near the British Virgin Islands (BVI). It did not reach hurricane strength until long after leaving the BVI when it entered the Gulf of Mexico on August 28th. The storm did no harm to the BVI, but caused severe damage along the northern Gulf Coast of the United States. Nevertheless, the storm’s strong winds caused disruptions in parts of the BVI, including Great Camanoe Island, and electrical power was shut down for nearly two days. In addition, the Villa’s boat was pulled out of the water and stored on dry land for nearly two days as a routine safety measure. After the winds passed on the second day, electricity was restored and the Boat was put back in the water. The guests writing the review had stayed at the Villa for nine days, and indicated to us they had a good vacation for seven of the nine days. While infrequent, when a strong storm develops, it is more likely to occur in August or September, which is one reason that summer in the tropics is called the “Low Season.” We sincerely regret the two-day disruption that tropical storm Isaac caused our guests.

We loved it. The views from the home are incredible and the home is very comfortable. We stayed for a week and spent all our time on the front porch which has a number of very comfortable loung chairs and the millon dollar views. A couple of things you should know if planning on staying at the Villa Oasis. The owners have a wonderful motor boat and you really need this to get around; boating skills are necessary. My brother-in-law is an expert boater which made things easy for us. We island hopped using the boat and it was great!! The snorkeling on the island is also very good - there is a beach by the boat pier that is very nice. There is a nice deck there also which many of the islanders come down to visit and surf the net. As for restaurants, there is a great restaurant on Scrub Island at the Scrub Island Resort which is a short boat ride away; we all had the loster and it was unbelievable. The price was very reasonable. Will go back there again next time down. We brought food from the States and ate most of our meals on the porch watching the sun go down. The kitchen is not large, but we found just about everything we needed. We used the gas bar-b-q pit most of the time. Pusser's Marina Cay is a stones throw away; get gas for the boat, some supplies (rum, wine) and great rum drinks. We also shopped at Trellis Bay Market which is ok. The better market is on the Virgin Gorta in Spanish Town, a little further, but much nicer and wider selection. We went deep sea fishing and caught the most expensive fish in the world that day. It was good, but the most expensive fish in the world should be good. The home has everything you need; all of the the rooms were very comfortable. We spent most of our time either boating, snorkeling or on the front porch reading and enjoying the views. We are going back in February, but staying for 10 days this time.

                                      Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: We are an American couple from northern California, New York, Canada, Washington DC area, Singapore, Germany, Ireland, and the British Virgin Islands. Of all the places in the world, we found that The Villa Oasis on Great Camanoe Island has a near perfect balance of everything one would seek in a tropical environment: convenient to the mainland US, the US Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico, superb climate, unbeatable sailing and boating, clean air, clear water, spectacular scenery, US currency & time zone, and a safe environment.

Why the Owner Chose Great Camanoe:
As a consequence of moving a business from Europe to Tortola in 2005, we searched the entire BVI for the perfect island home: a private & safe location, beautiful views of the sea, walking distance to a sandy beach and privage boat dock. Moreover, we wanted a home that faced the easterly trade winds. Nothing met our criteria (many sites had great views but were located way too far from the water, others lacked easy access to a boat dock, beaches and swimming areas, or had not so pleasant orientations). Finally, we found The Villa Oasis - it exceeded our expectations and had everything we were searching for, and right at the end of its driveway. After residing here for six years, the BVI will now become our part-time residence, so we are letting out the estate for others to enjoy when we are away.
