We are proud to report that in 2010 Treasure Island was selected for the Kiplinger Letter's international list of Eleven Private Islands of Interest. Treasure Island is for rent complete with 20' pontoon boat for $2400/week with check in on Sunday 2pm and check out on Saturday 2pm (6 night minimum). We are happy to give instruction on the use of the pontoon boat. This is a chance to be transported from your normal day to day life without having to endure hours or days of travel to another country. Here are some rules you will want to consider before booking: 1. No pets are allowed. 2. Due to the fire danger, there is no smoking anywhere on the island. 3. The number of overnight guests are limited to 6 persons. 4. There can be no towing of water toys behind the pontoon. If any of these rules are broken, the deposit is forfeit. The reservation, breakage, and loss are secured by a $600 deposit which will be returned by mail the day after checkout (assuming no breakage, loss, or violation of the preceding rules). Please check the availability calendar link for dates. We are always happy to answer any questions, just give us a call at 415-706-6323 or email us at bob@bobdimond.com.
This private island, located on Lake Manitou in Northern Indiana, enjoys dramatic lake views and over an acre of parkland and walkways. Whether you are a couple, or a family looking for a vacation venue, you will enjoy a unique, one-of-a kind paradise. You will enjoy total privacy, and still have easy access to water sports and fishing. A pontoon boat is provided for easy access to your own pier and lot on the mainland where you can park six cars. Situated halfway between Notre Dame and Purdue Universities, and an easy hop by private plane from Chicago or Indianapolis, you can enjoy the beauty of nature without the isolation. The turn of the century cottage is fully restored and is all electric (powered from shore). Three sides of the home are fully windowed for a view of a true wonderland. Our son set up this one week visit to 1 Treasure Island, as a surprise to his mother & me. The biggest surprise, however, was when we arrived from Texas and saw the island home. It was everything shown in the pictures & more. It is the showcase of the lake, with a private dock and easy access to the main shore. Our son's family, including three children, plus the grandparents, had plenty of room to sleep, eat, and play. The island is big! Bob Dimond was an outstanding host, helping us with the things we forgot to bring. We used the boat every day to waterski, fish, and take an evening ride. A special treat was the use of Bob's kayaks which we all used to explore the lake and shorelines. The comfortable home was just as well kept inside as the pictures indicated. We would strongly reccomend this spot for a family vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

We thoroughly enjoyed your lovely island. I especially loved sitting in the morning & watching the squirrels eat from the railing. Thank you for sharing your special place. [note left on table]Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: My wife and I lived our adult lives in San Francisco, and have moved to Treasure Island in our retirement due to family connections and the sheer beauty of the setting here. It is truly a pleasure not to be mired in Bay Area traffic any more!
Why the Owner Chose Lake Manitou:
Lake Manitou has an almost irresistible pull upon those who grew up here. My wife is one of those who spent her childhood on this lake. We met in college and spent our adult lives in San Francisco, but the lake was always calling--and we jumped at the opportunity to buy Treasure Island as a second home fourteen years ago. One of the happy recent surprises has to do with the island as a winter place. We have lived here full time since we retired--and have really enjoyed the winter scenes and wildlife as well as the lazy summers we had been accustomed to. We rent from time to time to supplement our income in retirement.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
Water, water, water. Beauty, beauty, beauty. There you have it. Lake Manitou has an environment that is known to very few lakes in this country. It offers a 'main lake' that is perfect for fishing, swimming, jet skiing, water skiing, tubing, and every other kind of water recreation--including leisurely pontoon cruises at sunset. But it has another magical portion that most people are unaware of--Rain Creek. Ten miles of watershed protected by the state that feed the lake and that offers a wonderful experience for the canoeist or kayaker--kayaks are included with the rental. On this portion of the lake, silence and wildlife reign supreme, and one seldom encounters another soul. You can hear the deer thrashing about among the cattails, and the sound of the wood duck in the distance. We have been so spoiled by this wonderful duality, that we couldn't imagine life without it.
This home is a joy. It is a quintessential lake cottage, right from turn-of-the century America. The ground floor features three rooms with over 26 windows to take in the incredible lake views, plus an interior room with a massive field stone fireplace that serves as an evening retreat for television and movies. The upper floor features the owner's bedroom with views between the treetops and over the lake. The home has been fully restored from the ground up with the very best of redwood siding (painted heritage blue), new floor joists, and new hardwood flooring. Alice's deck (one of three large decks) is built upon a guest house foundation--so that a new owner might add a guest house if he desires. Electricity and septic are already in place to accommodate the additional home.
