Mount Hood chalet description
Get away from it all in this custom built mountain lodge located on the Salmon River and bordering the 61,000 acre Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. The Salmon River Chalet is the perfect retreat for families looking to find a place to get away and relax up at beautiful Mount Hood. You will enjoy 3,000 sq. feet of comfortable cabin space and over an acre of forested riverfront property on the scenic Salmon River.
The chalet's large open floor plan is perfect for entertaining the whole family with the centrally located kitchen situated between two large living spaces. At one end of the chalet, the living room displays high vaulted ceilings with large windows overlooking the forest. At the other end, the game room is stocked with board games, toys for the kids, foosball, and air hockey. Perfect for a family game night around the fire. The large wooden deck wraps around the entire lower level to connect the family together for BBQs and beautiful views of the forest.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the chalet's upstairs master bedroom which has its own private deck overlooking the forest and river. The master also includes a log king-sized log bed, an en-suite bathroom with soaking tub, and tile shower with private forest views. Listen to the soothing sounds of the Salmon River while you read a book in the reading nook in this luxurious master suite.
The main floor of the cabin has 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms-enough room for the whole family to spread out and relax. The bedrooms include: the ‘Golf Room’ with a log king-sized log bed, the ‘Cabin Room’ with two twin sized log beds, and 'The Bear Den' with two bunk-beds for the kids to enjoy.
Love nature? Take a hike on the nearby The Bonanza Trail (#786). The trailhead is only a half-mile away from the cabin, no need to drive- just take a short hike to your hike! The Bonanza trail follows scenic Cheeney creek and goes past the old abandoned Bonanza mine. Other nearby scenic hikes include: The Salmon River Trail, Ramona Falls, and the Mirror Lake Trail with stunning reflections of Mt Hood.
The Salmon River Chalet is close to world class skiing and snowboarding with numerous ski resorts located on & around Mt Hood. Ski Bowl, Timberline, and Mt Hood Meadows are easily accessible and offer extensive terrain, high speed lifts, and full service amenities. Timberline is America's only year-round ski resort, and Mt Hood Ski Bowl offers the largest night skiing area in America.
In the summer, there is excellent mountain biking, including purpose built trail systems and even chair lift-assisted downhill terrain at Ski Bowl. The Sandy River Trail alone contains more than 15 miles of purpose built single track trails appealing to a variety of difficulty levels.
The cabin sits directly on the beautiful Salmon River which is fed by Mt. Hood's glaciers and contains some of the best fly fishing in Oregon. Alpine lakes are also nearby and feature great fishing, hiking, bird watching, and photo opportunities.
The Resort At The Mountain is just a mile away, offering a 27-hole championship golf course, a full service spa, and other amenities.
Excellent nearby restaurants include Italian, Mexican, alpine, burgers, pizza and pub fare. We have recommended list of restaurants listed in our cabin book.
The cabin's backyard is the Mt Hood National Forest and the vast Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, which contains excellent hiking, mountain biking, and mountaineering.
With so much to explore up at Mt. Hood we hope you enjoy your stay at the cabin and come again soon!

Lovely home. Well organized. Lovely setting. Very clean. Excellent vacation spot summer or winter. I have one small disagreement with the owners. I have stayed in vacation rental home for years all over the world. Never have I been asked to wash my towels, strip the beds and launder the sheets. I never leave dirty dishes and always treat a home as if it were my own. I draw the line at laundering the sheets and towels. I have already paid $190. cleaning fee. I have an early flight out tomorrow and I feel this is asking too much. Other than that we had a terrific stay. Thank you.

Owner response: Thanks for your great feedback about our home, cleanliness, and setting. The check-out list is typical of other rentals in the Mt. Hood area, but we agree that having an extensive list of steps to do isn't ideal when you are on vacation. We will talk to our property managers and see if we can simplify the check-out steps. Thank you! We hope you visit us again soon!
Fantastic cabin experience!
Fantastic cabin experience!
My husband and I brought five members (plus two younger brothers). of the Davis High School ski team to Mt. Hood for ski performance camp at Timberline Lodge. All nine of us had a fantastic time while staying at this cabin in Welches, and we would not change anything about the home or its surroundings. The kids had so much fun with the air hockey and foos ball tables, they had some great horseshoes tournaments, and we enjoyed the poker table and cards/chips. Note: our seven teenagers couldn't resist building creations with Lincoln Logs, too! :) This house is extremely well-appointed, and visitors will love the variety of places to hang out. My husband and I could be in the front living room while the kids took over the family room; plus the master suite — and private deck! — was nicely situated upstairs from the hubbub. We really loved this vacation home and plan to stay there again. The one thing people planning to go to ski camp should consider is that the house is about a 35-minute drive to Timberline Lodge (it is closer to other ski resorts like Ski Bowl). We made the trek multiple times each day as we dropped off and picked up kids, which was worth the drive to stay here, but something we didn't realize when we scoped out the area. All nine of us said they would choose this house again, even with the drive!

Our group of 9 hikers converged on the beautiful cabin in the woods last week. We had everything we needed. We hiked to our hearts content and then met back at the cabin for great meals. We cooked together, hiked together and even built a campfire. The beds were comfortable, the living areas were spacious and the grounds were spectacular. Couldn't have asked for a better place!

Owner response: I'm glad that your group enjoyed your time hiking up at Mt. Hood!
The Salmon River Chalet was a comfortable drive from our desert home to this beautiful chalet in the forest. It provided the welcoming heart of a chalet in a spacious second "home." If we needed anything, it was available. We treasure our memories of the silence and beauty of the yard, forest and trails; the joy of the river; the sweetness of the s'mores; the thrill of the 'snail races; and the fellowship of family and friends. There was always something available for each of us. We were several families, and there was plenty of space for all. We are planning our next vacation here...looking forward to taking some of the many hikes available in the area. It is a perfect place to stay. Thank you!

Plenty of Sunshine
Plenty of Sunshine
I woke up Saturday morning and went downstairs. Sun was streaming in the floor-to-ceiling windows of the living room. I went for a walk down to the river with the baby while we waited for the rest of the family to wake up. Once everyone awoke, we spent the morning drinking coffee and wandering on the trails. The kids found two frogs and a tadpole. What a fun day.

Great place for families!
Great place for families!
We had a fabulous stay at the Salmon River Chalet. The owners were so accommodating, providing a Pack 'N Play and baby items, and a comprehensive welcome kit. This is an absolutely beautiful home, was very clean, and easily accommodated all 10 of us, a multi-generational group. Thank you for your kindness and hospitality. We will definitely return for ski vacations or summer get-aways in the future! Stacie Beecham and families

Owner response: We really want our cabin to be kid & baby friendly! In addition to the pack-n-play, we've added: a high chair, baby blankets, a baby gate (for the stairs), plastic cups/bowls, and sippy cups.

What a great place, well organized and close to Mt. Hood and Portland. Everything was as described and more impressive was we arrived. We had a great time at Ski Bowl, Timberline and only a 20 minute ride back to the rental. We have already talked about a return trip back in the summer. I highly recommend this property and thank you for a great weekend.

Owner response: I am so glad you had a great time at the Salmon River Chalet. Please come again!
This vacation home is a wonderful destination! We had two families and 10 people and had plenty of room to spread out and relax. The kitchen is huge, large eating spaces, two living rooms for diverse activities, large spacious bedrooms, and wonderful comfy beds. This home was actually better than the pictures! The local area has an abundance of activities - but staying home and enjoying this home is also a great option!

This cabin is amazing in so many ways. It exceeded our expectations. We just couldn't get enough of the relaxing views. Beds were comfy and everything was so so clean. We had plenty of room for the whole group to spread out. The Fooze Ball and Hockey game tables were a BIG hit. We had everything we needed and then some. You've turned your cabin into a family friendly resort. We'll be back. That's for sure!

About the owner: We are the Rodman family and we live in Portland, Oregon. Our two young children are growing up quickly and we realized we needed a place to slow down and relax from our busy city life. We fell in love with beautiful Mt. Hood and our family enjoys biking, hiking, sledding and skiing all year round up at the mountain. The fly fishing is great too and is right in the cabin's backyard! We hope to share our love of the mountain with you and your family as you enjoy your stay at our cabin.
Why the Owner Chose Mount Hood:
The Salmon River Chalet sits in a beautifully wooded area right between the Salmon River and the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. The cabin has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, 2 decks, and 2 large living spaces for the whole family to spread out and enjoy. The setting is private and pristine, a perfect place to relax and get away.
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
We've rented lots of cabins up at Mt. Hood before we purchased this home and we know that having a few cabin 'extras' can make your stay much more enjoyable for your family. That's why our cabin is stocked with family board games, decks of cards, a foosball table, and it even has alpine themed books for the kids to enjoy for bedtime stories. We've tried to think of activities that both adults and kids of all ages of kids would enjoy at our cabin to make help create the best family memories. Adults can relax on the large deck overlooking the forest with a cup of cocoa and a book while the kids play with Lincoln Logs and build their own mountain cabin. The whole family can take a short stroll down the property to our campfire pit right at the river bank. Everyone can enjoy s'mores and tell stories about your day up on the mountain. This cabin has something special for everyone!
