===========================================
This Amsterdam canal apartment is located on the bottom two floors: the “souterrain” floor and the “beletage” (piano nobile) floor. These two floors are connected with an interior staircase. One enters the Snug Sonnenberg apartment on the souterrain, which is a semi-lowered (half below and half above street-level) ground floor. The beletage floor is half a floor above streetlevel and has a 3.5 meter high ceiling, with 2.5 meter high canal view windows running the width of the building.
Upon entering the souterrain the massive beams that support the beletage are quite impressive. This floor has an open kitchen with dining area, as well as a very comfortable sofa that is also a double bed when folded out. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern comforts and the dining table can easily seat six persons. In the back of this floor there is a separate bedroom with vanity sink and toilet. The beams in combination with antique floor tiles and the stone walls give this space a very warm and comfortable atmosphere. With ample heating present, the smells from the kitchen and friends swapping stories at the table, this is typically what the Dutch will call “gezellig”. The word “gezellig” is considered to be an example of untranslatability, and is one of the hardest words to translate. Some consider the word to encompass the heart of Dutch culture.
On this floor there is a staircase leading to the beletage, this floor has high ceilings and large windows overlooking the Herengracht canal. Opening the windows one can sit on the window stills or window bench and overlook this beautiful canal with all its historic houses running along its sides. There is a seating area in the front (canal side) of this floor with an ornamental antique heater. The large sofa can be converted into a double bed. In the back of the floor there is a full bathroom with sink, toilet and shower cabin. This floor also has a door that leads to the upstairs Grand Sonnenberg apartment, it is only unlocked when both apartments are rented by the same guests.

Location description
The Sonnenberg is located in the canal belt in the part known in Amsterdam as the “nine streets” area. The nine streets area is well known for its plentiful boutique shops, many restaurants, and its beautiful canals. This area is comprised of nine narrow streets running perpendicular with the four major canals (Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht) of the canal belt. It is distinctly different from other shopping districts as there is a large diversity of privately owned shops and specialized shops.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: I grew up in the hospitality business, with my parents running hotels and/or restaurants. Since 2005 I have been actively offering short stay apartment rentals in Amsterdam. I built up a company this way, however as I became more and more involved in management, I enjoyed it less and less. Therefor I sold this company in 2010 to focus on my own properties again. In 2007 I purchased this property and in 2008 another property called the Sonnenberg and have been managing these two properties ever since. And more actively so since 2010. Currently I am in the process of starting a new suite hotel in the centre of Amsterdam. Hopefully the hotel will open its doors by the end of 2012, that way I can also offer some additional services at my apartments. I love to share my experience of the wonderful city of Amsterdam. In my opinion the best way to see the city is with friends on an open canal boat on a nice day or evening. If requested I may be able to arrange this for you as well. My properties all have short stay permits and I operate them as a registered business with the Chamber of Commerce, properly paying taxes both VAT and city tax. This ensures you will not wake up early in the morning to government workers dropping by to check on illegal activities.
