Ponderosa cabin is much more than a cabin: it is a house! And the website does not show the big view you have over your own private meadow with deer. It was so wonderful. The house is very convenient for a couple with everything you need, a big kitchen and a cozy living room. We did not miss the internet or tv; we loved to watch the dvd, but maybe that is the only thing that you can modernise a little bit more. It was so nice to see all the pictures of your father, there is so much love in the air. Laura, you arranged everything very fast, easy and perfect. thank you so much. The house is very close to Crazy Horse, to Custer (with a good organic small store!) and all the attractions in Custer State Park. It was one of the most beautiful places to stay on our trip from Idaho to Missouri. Thanks!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I just concluded our stay at the Ponderosa on 09/22/11 and we were very sorry to leave. The cabin was clean and comfortable, the views from the deck were unbelievable (especially at sunset), and the quiet was absolute. Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Custer State Park, and Wind Cave were all just minutes away. The owners were very helpful and the listing completely accurate. It took us a couple of days to get comfortable with no phone service or TV, but it actually allowed us to hear the peace and quiet of the property. We would, and will recommend this property to all.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Ponderosa and enjoyed it immensly. We traveled from central Illinois via motorcycle and were unsure of our arrival time so the owners offered to pick us up a few breakfast items for the next morning. This was so nice and very much appreciated. The garage was also wonderful for parking the motorcycle in. We found the Ponderosa to be the quietest place we'd ever stayed. Not even any air traffic, so we found ourselves whispering while sitting out on the deck. Deer, wild turkeys and jack rabbits visited nearly every day. The cabin was very clean and organized and even though the little window air conditioner was stretched somewhat during the heat of the day, their were plenty of fans and the cabin remained comfortable. There are a ton of things to do around the area and most everything is within just a few miles. After being out on the bike all day we loved coming back to the cabin for dinner and a drink out on the deck. The owners were great at communicating and easy to deal with. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking to get away from it all.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The cabin is just as the pictures portray. It was clean and very comfortable with all aminities. When we drove up there was a family of deer in the front yard to greet us. The veiws from the front porch are magnificent. I would recomend this cabin to anyone that wants to get away from the hussel and bussel of the city. You can see Crazy Horse from the road going into the cabin and Mt. Rushmore is just a few miles away. Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us, it is alittle piece of heaven.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin! It is so secluded and quite with beautiful views. We were able to watch a couple of gorgeous sunsets from the deck out front. The front yard is HUGE! Our boys had so much fun running around and climbing trees. Our kids tend to be pretty loud when they play outside and it was nice to not have to worry about them disturbing other people because there wasn't another house close enough for them to be heard. The cabin was in a great location, close to many attractions. Its very close to the town of Custer as well as Custer State park. Mount Rushmore is maybe 30 minutes away. We were so happy with our stay and will definitely stay there again if re return to the Black Hills!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Just spent the last weekend at this cabin with friends and family and loved it. The privacy and view of the hills from the deck makes for the perfect getaway spot. This cabin is close enough to town that everyone was able to ride their four-wheelers in for the morning Gold Discovery Days parade and still be back in the woods for an afternoon trip to Bear Mountain. The description of the amenities is accurate, and there is now an air conditioner installed. We had everything we needed for evening BBQing and morning breakfast, and Tom and Laura were helpful with whatever questions we had. I would highly recommend The Ponderosa to anyone and will make it a point to return.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I highly recommend the Ponderosa for those looking to visit the Custer area. The pictures and description are accurate, with the exception of air conditioning, but there are plenty of fans throughout the cabin to cool things down. Mt. Rushmore is a mere 20 miles away, and Custer State Park is even closer than that. We are very thankful to Laura and her family for sharing their father's cabin with others. We enjoyed the peace and serenity after being cooped up in the car all day sight seeing and playing tourist. The cabin is fully stocked and having a washer and dryer was very convenient. The best part was having no cable or internet, allowing us to disconnect and enjoy the evening playing games and sitting outside watching the stars appear. If you are looking for a cabin in Custer, this is the one to pick!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

The Ponderosa was just the ticket for us to have a beautiful, relaxing vacation in the Black Hills. We have stayed in the area several times before, but this was by far our favorite place. It was great to be out away from the busyness of the towns but nice to be in a central location to all the sites. We were able to watch the Crazy Horse blast the first evening from our roadway! We enjoyed the friendly deer and loved the privacy. The front lawn provided a great place to play games and the deck was perfect to sit on and enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the view. The cabin was clean and cozy and had all we needed. Laura and Tom are very friendly and always happy to help and answer any questions, etc. We have already recommended the place to our family and friends and do hope to come back ourselves if we visit the area again.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
