Classically Elegant High Ceilinged Apt. Historic Cerro Alegre
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
The apartment is in one of Cerro Alegre's emblematic buildings in the heart of the UNESCO world heritage protected part of the city. Housed on the second floor of a historic mansion completely renovated and converted into modern apartments, it is a spacious 120 square metres (about 1300 square feet).
All three bedrooms have their own bathroom en suite, each with a full bathtub. The spacious master bedroom has a queen bed and there are two smaller guest rooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two singles.
The apartment is decorated with a mixture of period photos and contemporary art and there is even an upright piano in the living room, while the bright patio/sun deck overlooks part of the UNESCO world heritage sector of the city.
We have secure on-site parking and disabled access and (unusually for Valparaiso) the apartment is also fully centrally heated. The tall windows and high ceilings give a feeling of space and brightness, while double glazing ensures the apartment is free of street noise.
We are on fashionable Cerro Alegre. the hill is the heart of the old "English quarter" of the city, first settled by wealthy European merchants in the 19th century. Here you will find weird and wonderful buildings built in a myriad of architectural styles. The neighbourhood, while peaceful, is home to most of the city's best restaurants as well as dozens of boutiques, art galleries, museums cafés and promenades with views over the bay.
A pictureque walk along the hills will lead you to Pablo Neruda's famed house and the open air museum, while the bustle of downtown is only 5 minutes away on foot or via any one of the three funicular railways that link the city centre with our hilltop neighbourhood.
The owner of this apartment rental owns another smaller apartment in the same area. Please inquire if you are interested in other rentals in Cerro Alegre.

It was a late booking but a great booking. Nidito 2 is a large three bed roomed apartment on the edge of the vibrant Cerro Alegre area of Valparaiso. It's furnished beautifully and is very comfortable and secure. Janak was a generous and knowledgeable host and we benefitted immensely from his advice. It was an excellent base - especially having been rained out of San Pedro de Atacama - for our final four days of a month in Chile. We're glad we chose Valparaiso - a vibrant city we were sad to leave - and glad we were able to secure Nidito 2.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The property is everything that it advertises and it is a very save "hill" unlike some next door. The refer & stove work fine, but it does not have a microwave so you can't heat up your coffee when it gets cold or anything else. I suggested to the owner that he should provide one, but he showed no interest in that. The piano is not located in the living room, but in the hall way. (not that it matters as we are not skilled with such things.) Internet was a big plus, TV is located one bedroom. In Valpo the bars open late like 11PM & go until 5AM. We did have tenants above us that partied starting at 4AM, I just wish I was young enough to join them. Enjoy your stay, nice place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

As an ex-pat living in Santiago, I wanted to show my family a great time when they came to visit. Cerro Alegre is the perfect location for seeing Valparaiso, and this apartment was amazing! So spacious, even with six people, and a great value compared with hotels in the same area. The architecture is beautiful, and we caught quite a few tour groups stopping to take pictures of the building. Janak and his wife were great hosts, and the apartment was well-stocked with maps and tourist information. It was the perfect choice for our trip, and I would go back in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We stayed in the condo for three nights with another couple. It was very spacious and very comfortable. It is located real close to a market and close to some great restaurants. We walked alot and saw some amazing art on walls and fences. Janak was a wonderful host, with lots of information and suggestions.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers.

On our first family trip to Chile, we got very lucky with this rental. Valpariaso is a wonderful coastal town, home to the National Congress of Chile, a deep port with beautiful views of the Pacific, ideal tempratures and delicious food and wine served in seemingly every restaurant. It is a walking city, and therefore location is critical. Cerro Alegre, one of twenty hillsides that spread out along the edge of the bay, is the perfect location to explore the town, and Janak's apartment is the perfect place to call home for your stay. The three bedroom, three bathroom apartment is clean, neat and spacious. There is a gated driveway in the event you do chose to drive, but on foot you will be just fine. Collectivos will bring you from the base of the hill directly to the doorstep of the apartment for the fare of just 350 pesos per person - about 70 cents. The walk down the hill is filled with views of the port. The walkways, porch stoops, and fences of Cerro Alegre are brightly painted by street artist, so you have breath-taking views and artist work everywhere you look. The owner, Janak, writes a well known travel guide for Chile, and our treatment, from the time we made the reservation, from our personal check-in, to tips and recommendations left us with the feeling of having a personal tour guide at our disposal. His wife operates a small bakery at the top of the hill. Cerro Alegre is filled with small art galleries and shops, and unbelievably good small restaraunts, try everything on the list left by the host, and you'll be very satisfied. Our family of 8 stayed for a week at the apartment, over Christmas of 2011. We were very pleased with our accomodations. Safe, secure, convenient, and as a I said already, Janak is the most gracious and knowledgable host you could possibly ask for. Everything interesting about Valpo and Vina Del Mar, a short bus ride away. Well within walking distance were the local markets, the Congress building, the parks and plazas, and coming back to our home each evening was always a pleasant part of the day. While walking up the hill would probably have burned up the calories we consumed, the Collectivo's waiting at the bottom of the hill were almost always too tempting to overcome. Gracias Janak,Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

What a pleasant surprise. Janak is the best host, and has all information, maps etc laid out meticulously which really saved us time (more time for sightseeing!) From the initial email and prompt responses to the personalized checkin, we are totally impressed. I am also a VRBO owner and I own and manage vacation rentals in Panama, and Puerto Vallarta so I'm probably a tough customer, but it just couldn't be better. The area is beautiful and interesting and the comforts are all there from included local calling to high speed wireless internet, fully equipped kitchen and comfy beds. Each room has own ensuite bath which is a bonus also! The building itself is full of character and one that we would have photographed walking by. I HIGHLY recommend this property. More than ample space for families , romantic enough for couples.. and, we are 2 singles and works perfectly for us having own space and own baths. We arrived here to enjoy Colonial architecture and much to our pleasant suprise , we are living right in it!
