The location of this condo was exceptional... it is on the fringe of the French Quarter. Me and my wife felt very safe and we absolutely love the balcony! The balcony is what really makes this condo special! The balcony extends over Esplanade and we could have people watched the entire weekend. You have everything you need in this unit... a full bathroom, a full kitchen, wifi, TV, AC/heat, etc.... our only complaint was the noise level at night from all the activity outside... it wasn't French Quarter traffic, but it was just from late nighters, cars, and motorcycles that were up and down Esplanade throughout the night... If I had some earplugs, I might have used them in order to get a better nights sleep.... but I guess you have to expect that on a busy street in the Big Easy.... Carol was great in explaining our whereabouts and pointing out local places to dine.. our favorite breakfast spot was the Ruby Slipper... great breakfast! We will be inquiring about this unit in the future for another extended weekend!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

What can we say, this is the perfect spot. Away from the crowds and noise but close enough to walk to many attractions in the quarter. Also steps away from Frenchman Street where you will find amazing food and music. Carol is so helpful and Ed the owner was very accommodating. We will come back again and again. Everything you need for a quiet getaway.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

My husband and I spent a week in this charming condo. Condo seems like the wrong word as it makes me think of something new and lacking charm. “Esplanade in the Shade” is an utterly charming haven. As we were there the first week of December, the owners had already decorated every room of the 200 year-old abode for Christmas, just adding to the charm. The kitchen and bathroom have been updated and had everything we needed. It was so nice to find everything was as advertised: plenty of large coffee cups (and coffee for the maker!) extra towels and blankets. It felt like home. I am known in my family as a bit of a princess. That being said, there was a little extra noise and street light at night than I was used to, and I was glad that I had brought my sleep mask and earplugs. (I always travel with them) My better half, no problems for him. All he needs is a comfy bed, which it was, and out he went. Lovely abode, perfect location, friendly and helpful Carol, beautiful town, great vacation!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

My wife and I were lucky enough to discover Esplanade in the Shade and first visited in October of 2011. We returned for Vodoofest in October of 2012 and enjoyed our second stay just as much as our first. This is now our home away from home in New Orleans. This second-floor condo is beautiful, well appointed, and the location cannot be beat. I mean, the corner of Bourbon and Esplanade! It doesn't get much better than that! If you wish to explore the best of the Marigny, Bywater, and the French Quarter, this is your place. Everything within walking distance (or stumbling distance depending on how your day goes.) It is also very easy to catch a cab right outside the front door. The Condo owner genuinely appreciates having you stay and shows it with a personal note and a nice gift bag including some great music. Pop it in the CD player and listen while you enjoy a drink on the incredible balcony overlooking beautiful Esplanade Ave. Tons of great reading material is available and you'll certainly appreciate the great local art that adorns the walls. I truly wish my home were decorated as nicely as this condo. Carol, the rental agent, is extremely knowledgable about the newest and best eateries, drinkeries, and places to catch great music. She is always there to meet and greet us promptly and responds quickly to any questions or requests. And if you choose to drive a car to NOLA, she will provide you with a neighborhood parking pass for the duration of your stay. Very convenient indeed. We had no issues finding a good parking spot. (Just stay at least 20 feet from corners and pay attention to the posted signs!) In short, you just can't beat the Esplanade in the Shade condo, nor the beautiful building it is in, nor the perfect location. Give it a try. You won't be sorry.Did you find this review helpful? My girlfriend and I had an incredible time staying at this apartment. It was calm and comfortable, yet it was a short walk to Bourbon and Frenchmen streets. Within minutes of the apartment we found great music, fun bars, and amazing restaurants. When we returned, we had the peace and quiet to recharge for the next day. A great place for any occasion. Thanks! Can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car.

Esplanade in the shade was exactly what we were looking for in New Orleans. What you see in the ad, is what you get. Just great!! We had a great balcony in a quiet area and still close to everything. Bourbon, Decatur, Frenchman Streets and many more are just a few steps away. If like us, you like to have a car, you get this resident pass and there is many parking places available on the street close to the condo. But above all, Carol, the property Manager, and her cheerful attitude were just fantastic. After a rough trip with flight cancellation and missing connection, we’ve arrived in the middle of the night. Guess what, Carol was available for us to access the condo and give us some of her precious city knowledge to make our arrival easier. After that type of day how comforting and appreciated it was. Carol also mentioned many interesting ideas about where to go to get food close by and visiting NOLA, tremendous information that help us enjoy our too short one week stay. It was simply just awesome! We will definitely check for Esplanade in the shade first for our next visit and Thank you Carol !Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, tourists without a car.

We loved this condo! My husband and I are in our sixties and have traveled to New Orleans many times. This location allowed us to park the car conveniently close on the street and use it very little. We walked everywhere, to the Quarter for beignets and great food and shopping, and to Frenchmen's Street for good music and (did I mention?) great food! One day it rained buckets, so we sat on the balcony and people watched. Carol was perfect, helpful and available. We used the on-site laundry once during our eight-night stay, very convenient. This condo works well for any age group. Our two daughters live on the North Shore and drove over one day. They loved it as much as we did. The owner had a gift waiting when we arrived. I won't spoil it for you in case you get the same thing, but you'll love it! We have made a point of staying in different neighborhoods when we visit NO, and find that to be a wonderful way of getting to know the city. That said, however, Esplanade in the Shade will now be our base. Thanks for such a lovely NO experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We stayed in the Esplanade in the Shade condo for Mardi Gras and had a great experience. Carol was very accommodating from the initial email up until we received our deposit back. Even when our check got lost in the mail, she was reassuring and very nice. We arrived into town late and she met us at the condo and made sure we had everything we would need. We are regulars to the area and she provided us with restaurants that we had never been to and she was right on about them. She was available for any questions we had. The condo is exactly as it is listed. The pictures do accurately reflect its appearance. The balcony is great! This condo is in a great location, close to Bourbon St., yet far enough away from the noise. You are within walking distance to Frenchmen St., French Quarter and many restaurants. My husband and I stayed in this condo with another couple who are close friends and it worked well, with that being said it might not work out well if you are wanting more privacy. You do have a door between the bedroom and the sofa bed in the living room, but the one bathroom is located within the bedroom. We will definitely stay here again. We had a great experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a small condo with an awesome balcony located on Esplanade Avenue. It is a short five minute walk to the French Quarter and Frenchman Street is right around the corner. My only concern with the condo is the check out time which is 11 AM. If you fly into New Orleans like I did, you are left with toting your suitcase around the French Quarter until you head to the airport. There is no place to store your bags after check-out. When you check out you must take them with you which is not what you want to be doing in New Orleans. Please be aware of this when you are looking at this property, otherwise it is a great place to stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, tourists without a car.
Owner response: We always do our best to accommodate guests. Our check out and check in times are clearly defined in the reservation at the time of booking. 3pm check in and 11 am check out. We were able to accommodate these guests and they checked out at 12:45pm.......not 11am. Unfortunately, if a guest chooses to book a flight in the evening (domestic), which this guest did, and we need to make a quick turn we are not always able to store bags and allow the guest to stay at the condo until 4pm in the afternoon. That is what this guest expected and was quite rude in his text messages. And as an addendum, the condo is not small. It is approximately 725 sq feet.

My wife and I came to NOLA on June 1, 2012 for a little R&R. Our experience here was excellent. The apt was just right and it's location was close enough to be in the thick of things but far away from the rowdy stuff to get a good nights sleep and not hear any ruckus. Would recommend to anyone wanting to experience the French Quarter. The staff were very nice and Carol kept us up to speed on everything prior to getting there and as we were there as well. Just 4 blocks from the riverfront streetcar. Once there, you catch all the others all through the city. A nice little market just one block away. The best cheeseburger in town is Port of Call just across from the market I mentioned. Cool place to eat or have a drink. Walking was no problem at any time. We didnt walk past 1am but we were not bothered by any locals (i.e. drunks, panhandling etc.). All in all a great time. We will be back! Todd & Joann.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.
