This was a great deal for a vacation away from the big city. The town was very local, but close enough to everything Oahu has to offer. The snorkeling was great. I found a sea turtle laying in a coral hole on the last day. The condo was very nice and as described. The only issue was a very slow flushing toilet with no power, if you know what I mean. Kim was great to work with and we are already planning our next vacation to Hawaii. The pool was very clean and well kept. My daughter had a great time learning how to swim. We grilled almost every night, but the left grill was not working well. Kim, thank you for a wonderful stay.

This was one of the first places I looked at on VRBO and I would go back in a heartbeat. It is exactly as pictured, awesome views, nice location. The beach was clean and good for swimming or boogie boarding. The pool and hot tub were nice and clean as well, saltwater which is nice.Definitely in a bit of a rougher neighborhood but not unsafe. Lots of security in and around the building but that is a good thing. I wouldn't recommend walking around the neighborhood singing "I'm in the money"at night, but during the day we walked in both directions, the locals were very friendly. The unit was clean and well equipped, only thing missing was a teapot, which we picked up at a thriftshop just down the street. The tv's are both quite old, didn't go to Hawaii to watch tv but flat-screens are so cheap these days they may want to update at least one of them. Had some issues with the dryer but they were handled very well by the owners and did not detract from the experience. Not much in the way of attractions or restaurants nearby, you need a car. Only place I would eat at was Tacos & More in Waianae it was very good. Fast food places are all nearby too.Tamura's market was a good place to shop, really reasonable and friendly folks. We really enjoyed meeting people around the BBQ at night. I would recommend this place to anybody who wants to be far from the maddening crowds of Honolulu, great value for a beautiful piece of paradise. We will definitely look at a return to this place for our next trip .

The pictures and reviews that accompany this listing are 100% accurate. Our family stayed here for a week in December and it was an amazing holiday. 45 minutes out of Honolulu, but almost in another world. We loved drinking coffee on the lanai while watching dolphins and turtles swimming by (and whales in the distance). Leisurely walking on the beach was another favourite pastime. Tennis, body surfing and reading on the beach often rounded out the day. It was so nice to have all the ammenities of home, on hand. Laundry, a fully equiped kitchen, excellent floor plan (especially the lanai). Upon arrival, we loaded up on groceries at Safeway in Kapolei, then spent virtually all our time at the condo. It was a dream holiday. Can't wait to go back. Wonderful owners to deal with, too.

This location was a great place to stay, away from the city, and overall quiet which we loved. The lanai provided fantastic views of the beach, turtles, and sunsets. The condo had everything we could have asked for, and was perfect for the 2 of us. It was clean and nicely decorated. The staff at the condo were superb and extremely friendly. We swam and snorkeled several times in the cove there were always turtles in the water. The downside is that shopping is so far away, but then we went for the quiet so it was worth it. We usually go to Maui, but have to say we really enjoyed our trip to Oahu. Kim was always helpful and prompt to get back to me on any questions I had.
Owner response:Mahalo for the kind words Gina and Robert. We're glad you enjoyed our place. It's true that Makaha is not the shopping capital of Oahu, but we like to think that our little town offers all the basics. And if we feel like we want more than that, there's lots to choose from not so far away. Of course it's always nice to come back to our quiet, uncrowded beach. Aloha, Kim and Jim

My family had a very nice stay at the condo here. The pictures very accurately describe the condo. We saw turtles every morning and even swam with one. The beach is nice and quiet and was'nt even busy on the weekend. Kim and Henry answered all our questions before we came and the condo did not lack in amenities including all your beach needs. Just want to say the view is spectacular and we have pix of rainbows and great sunsets from the balcony. We will stay here again on any trips to Oahu. Thanks The Heck family

This condo was the perfect place for us. The location gave us easy access to everything we wanted to see and explore whether we choose to drive to the other side of the island, or explore closer to home. The condo itself was very spacious, clean, well-kept, and extremely well-stocked, right down to beach chairs and coolers. The view was breath taking. I am Hawaiian and do have family that I could stay with, however, I wanted the experience of a relaxing tropical vacation with a beautiful, quiet, clean, sandy beach. I got all of the above. I hope to return to the Hawaiian Princess, and this unit, again and again. Give this condo a try. If you are wanting a quiet, convenient, gorgeous tropical experience, this is it!!!

If you've ever rented on-line and entered the property with trepidation that reality will not match the dream -fear not. Kim & Jim's place far surpassed our expectations. It has everything that makes a vacation great, beautiful view - whales and turtles almost every day, lullaby of waves every night. Beach never had more then a handful of people, it feels like your own private paradise. Those pictures of Hawaii with the spun-sugar beach and the pristine blue water? This is it. So removed from the cluster mess of Wakiki, which we did check out, then thankfully returned to peace and quiet. We can't remember a more peaceful, relaxed, stress-free vacation (oh - except for that Tsunami thing...) Absolutely 5+ stars. Hope we won't have to start booking years in advance! Mahalo Kim & Jim - we truly loved it. A couple tourist tips: Ignore the tour books and go to The Arizona and Mighty Mo in the AFTERNOON - much less crowded, skip the Polynesian Cultural Center - $45 pp for not much, snorkel Haanama Bay on the SOUTH end, drive the Pali highway, buy your souveniers at Kmart (yes, Kmart), check out the swap meet at the Aloha Stadium, stop at Ted's Bakery in the North Shore for awesome pie, MUST SEES - Valley of the Temples and Punchbowl Cemetary, and get/bring a GPS for your car - it will save your vacation, if not your marriage!

I grew up in Honolulu and returned to Oahu with a desire to do something different so we spent some time in Makaha in Kim's condo. It was a nice, clean apartment with a lovely feel and substantial storage space. The oceanview was mesmerizing. Me and my 17-month old son could see the sea turtles from the balcony. No seals or whales this time but I hear from repeat visitors that they can be seen from this building. I would love to return soon.

It was not our first time on Hawaii and every time we go, we rent a condo so that we can cook ourselves and stay away from crowds. This time we were traveling with 16 month old baby girl, so we wanted to stay on a beach. And oh boy, were we for a treat! Sounds of waves you can hear even in a bedroom, gorgeous view, an almost deserted beach... Unfortunately, we didn't see turtles or dolphins, and we found out that the beach was not very baby-friendly, but we used another beach just two miles away, and of course, lagoons at Ko Olina. We also went to different places all over the island which was easy to do with a car and free parking where we could always find a parking spot, even late at night. Mahalo and Aloha, Kim!

We had a great time in Oahu. The beach here was so clean and beautiful. We spent time looking around the island and visited many beaches, only to find that this one was one of the best if you are looking for quiet uncrowded beaches. There were turtles in the waves every day. The building was very secure and the security guard was nice. Ate breakfast and had coffee everyday listening to the ocean. I just got home a few days ago and already miss being there. The condo is set away from the big city and does require a car. We had a jeep and enjoyed seeing the real people living on the island, not just the touristy areas. The owners we always quick to respond. We had a great stay.

What a wonderful vacation rental. We stayed 7 nights with our 4 year old daughter. We saw the whole island with this condo as our jumping off point. The beach is a wonderful surprise. So beautiful and empty. We saw the turtles from the Lanai and on a walk around the point to the left of the building. We found the island very easy to navigate by car with everything an easy day trip. We often did two things in a day and still had time for the beach and the hot hot hot tub! We highly recommend the lagoon in Ko Olina if you have small children as a swimming option. It is not far down the road and very calm waters with no crowds (at least not in September). Questions about traveling ot Oahu with a preschooler? Feel free to email them!

Condo was very clean, well maintained and stocked with everything we needed. Location and amenities were all as described. The views from the lanai are breathtaking, and by far was our favorite part of the condo. We saw sea turtles from the lanai every morning before the few sun bathers arrived, and we didn't see more than 25 people on the beach at one time. The weather was 85 almost every day. We chose to sleep on the pull-out sofa so that we could keep the sliders to the lanai open and be lulled to sleep by the ocean waves hitting the shore outside. For activities in Hawaii, we enjoyed skydiving at Skydive Hawaii, interacting with the sea lions and dolphins at Sea Life Park and best of all was our visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Sunsets each evening were accompanied by the sound of multiple folks blowing into konk shells down on the beach. Kim and Jim were great hosts. Thanks for a great vacation experience.

It is not unusual for us to receive notes from our previous guests to tell us how much they liked staying in our place, but this one seemed to capture the essence of what it's like to stay "far from the madding crowd." The following is from some guests who recently stayed in our condo: Aloha Jim and Kim, We had a great vacation and your condo was a major reason for it. It was so wonderful to be able to come back from the chaos that was Waikiki and other people packed touristy areas to the serenity of your condo. If downtown Honolulu was were we stayed, we would not be going back to Hawaii ever again. That certainly is not what you see on the postcards! But to sit out on the lanai and eat breakfast and watch the turtles and dolphins swimming out in the ocean, and to look down and see only a couple of people on the beach and not thousands, now that's my idea of a vacation in paradise! Mahalo for letting us use your wonderful condo. John and Sue Mahalo John and Sue for your kind words.

I would recommend this condo to my friends. It was clean, comfortably stocked and well maintained. The views are magnificient. The condo design allows for complete privacy. It is well secured for vacation peace of mind. You definitely need a car to travel to the condo and around the island to see many other wonderful sites. Still you could decide to enjoy the clean and quiet beach for the duration of your stay. It's good value.

Thank you Kim and Jim...everything was great. My husband and our two boys have left with memories that will last a lifetime....kids had a great time both in ocean and the pool ending every evening with games of ping pong. Waking up and sleeping to the sounds of the ocean got the kids and us fighting over who would sleep in the living room. Seeing turles in morning, dolphins in the mid day and the most beautiful sunsets in the evening on the lanai was one of the most memorable times of our vacation. Staff was great, and very friendly. Would highly recommend this hidden gem.

Aloha, what a lovely condo to stay in for our yearly 2 week vacation. Everything that is advertised is true & more. Beautiful condo, gorgeous view, very helpful & courteous staff. During our stay in mid August. I discovered "Go Airlines", thanks to my husbands laptop he brought. We took 3 interisland trips to Hilo,Hawaii, Maui & Kauai, cost was so very cheap. $19.00 - 39.00 each way. It was so rewarding having the Princess to come back to. We had a fantastic stay at the Hawaiian Princess. The condo is nicely and comfortably furnished, with especially convenient touches like laundry right in the unit and beach towels, etc to borrow. We did see sea turles from the balcony as another review mentioned!! We snorkeled off the beach many times and saw an impressive variety of fish. This was just as good or better snorkeling than Sharks Cove, a famous spot on the north shore that we visited next. The view from the condo is amazing - we enjoyed it in the morning, day and of course at sunset. The building was nicely maintained and everyone we met was very sweet. We enjoyed the neighborhood - grocery shopping and hiking nearby. It was pretty easy to get down to Pearl City, but living on the west side did make it difficult to get to Honolulu (but this could be a good thing). We hope everyone has the wonderful time we did there at the HP.

We came to this lovely condo after staying 10 days in Maui at two condos.. It's got heavenly views over the ocean, mountains and especially the sunset. I and my father went to swim in the ocean almost every day. It was just an elevator and a couple of steps away. The condo got everything that we needed and we, especially my folks, absolutely loved it. We even spotted 6 sea turtles on 12/13 or 14th. Maybe we were still too early for whales watching.. Makaha isn't a fancy town but this resort is very much gated in and the security guard seemed to be very diligent. Big groceries are within 25 minutes of car ride and I highly recommend it if you would like to just relax and stay away from the hustle bustle of waikiki.

Owner response:Mahalo for the kind words Murray and Shellie. It's true: Makaha is not known for its fine dining, but there are a few nice places to eat. For upper-end dining, try the Makaha Resort Golf Club or the Makaha Valley Country Club. Both are just a short distance up the valley and offer gorgeous views of the golf course with the ocean in the distance. For family dining, try Red Baron Pizza on the main street that runs through town.

We really loved the the condo especially being on the 13th floor with the incredible view of sunsets, whales, sea turtles, rainbows and of course the beach! We appreciated all the ammenities of the condo and especially the guide book of Oahu which we used as our bible as we toured around the island with our two teenagers who loved staying here as well. They enjoyed the tennis courts, ping pong and loved boogie boarding which we rented from the local surf shop. The local grocery stores had everything we needed for groceries and my husband enjoyed meeting others while BBQ'ing on the main floor. We felt very safe and secure in the building and enjoyed watching the local kids playing in the water in front of condo. Our only complaint was we didn't stay long enough 10 days was way too short! We would like to return to Hawaii again in the future and would definetly stay at Kim and Jim's condo again.

We still use photo of a rainbow over the beach out front we took from the lanai as our computer desktop background - absolutely beautiful views. Good surf shop nearby; more of a local and less touristy vibe than other areas.

We enjoyed our stay at Kim & Jim's condo very much. The condo is well equipped and comfortable for 4. The Hawaiian Princess is clean and well maintained. The beach is gorgeous, we saw lots of turtles and dolphins. Great swimming and snorkeling when the waves are small, lot's of fun playing in the waves when they're big. It's maybe not the best beach for small children as the drop-off is steep and the waves can be quite big. The area is not for anyone looking for nightlife, shopping or restaurants, but if you're looking for a quiet vacation it's great!!
