PLEASE NOTE: I'm no longer renting this house as a vacation rental. I'm looking for a housemate though, to share this house with two other people (one of us is only here half time), both over 40, so if you're interested in living here year 'round, please feel free to contact me.
This large three-bedroom home is a fairy tale cottage in a quiet, wooded setting a short walk to Niles Beach, the Rocky Neck Art Colony, and the Gloucester Stage in East Gloucester. It is said to have been built for the mistress of T.S. Eliot was moved (for unclear reasons) to its current retreat-like location a few blocks from its original location. Although it's not on the water, late at night when it's quiet you can hear the waves breaking in the distance.
This is an older home with lots of wonderful quirky qualities, like the balcony overlooking the dining room, the beamed dining room ceiling and large, morrocan style fireplace, and the second fireplace in the vaulted living room. It is furnished with antiques and comfortable upholstered furniture.
The house has two bedrooms on the second floor and one on the first. There are two bathrooms.
There is a fenced back yard and a deck off the kitchen. Off the deck is a 'summer house' which provides a fabulous almost-outdoor relaxing or sleeping experience. The breezes waft through and it stays cool on the hottest days and nights.
There's no traffic, as the house is on a private road shared by only one other house. There's a large circular driveway so no problem with parking.
There are many amenities within walking distance, including Niles Beach, the Rocky Neck Art Colony's galleries, restaurants and scenic outlooks, and the Gloucester Stage. Also within easy driving distance are beautiful Good Harbor Beach, the Eastern Point Lighthouse and Dogbar breakwater, beautiful walks through Eastern Point, and many stores. Downtown Gloucester, where there are many more great shops, restaurants, art & maritime museums, as well as whale-watching boats and other such attractions, is a five-minute drive way.
No longer a vacation rental - seeking one housemate to share
with two others, year 'round. $750/month, including utilities.
Note: Until confirmed, rates are subject to change without notice.
