Vallecito Lake house description

If you're looking for the BEST VIEWS and TOTAL PRIVACY at Vallecito Lake, well then, it doesn't get any better than this!!
Perched at 8000 feet, where eagles stake their claim and humans get to see what they see - Big Sky, the Continental Divide, reach- out- and- touch stars, boats, sailing and horses grazing in the fields below.
Nature shows up every day just to blow your mind!!
The pics we posted for you tell the whole story- no cabins or houses right next door (right out of a clever camera shot), like all too many!!!!!.
We're at the very END OF THE ROAD with the back property line the San Juan National Forest! The Weminuche Wilderness is just up the hill! The retreat is what you would hope for in a mountain getaway. It is very secluded, pretty, warm, cozy and soothing; with wood paneling, aspen T+G vaulted ceilings.. with lots of windows to gaze out at God's handiwork. And of course there's the wrap-around deck with gazebo overlooking the lake with fields below providing you with Hallmark Views!

FISHING and FUN!: The fishing in the lake is great. If you want big trophy fish monster Pike are pulled out every year. We like to keep the freezer stocked with the Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon that you don't need to be an expert angler to catch. The road goes all around the lake and there are plenty of good spots to fish from shore. There's also Doc's Marina to rent fishing boats and fun toys by the hour, or day. They also rent 'party barges' so everyone can go! There's also some 10 hiking trails that are nearby and easy. You can hike up either Vallecito Creek or the Los Pinos River into the Weminuche which begins at both trail heads. Best of all, there is a trail just above the house that takes you up into the Wilderness Area smacking you with a gorgous alpine meadow dressed with a stream, deer and elk. There are also ATVs for rent that will take you up forest roads and trails high up into the mountains right across the lake! For skiers Durango Mountain Resort and Wolf Creek Ski Area both boast some of the best powder anywhere with no long lift line. If you would like Michael to assist you in boating fun...give him a hollar at (970)903-0382.

FALL, THANKSGIVING and CHRISTMAS: FALL COLORS! Fall is a wonderful time to visit. The Aspens set the hills ablaze with color! There are several famous color tours you can do as day trips. Try the Million Dollar Highway over the passes through Silverton and Telluride- an easy and fabulous journey; a photographers dream. The summer visitors are gone, the fishing's at it's best and the marina will normally still be renting boats. This is also generally the most predictably finest weather of the year. Our Favorite Time at the Hideaway, for sure!

THANKSGIVING! What a wonderful place to give thanks with your loved ones for God's awesome creation!

CHRISTMAS......Well, who doesn't dream of a White Colorado Christmas? We put the tree up by Thanksgiving, string up the outside lights, dig out the Santas and nutcrackers, make sure the woodpile is bulging and then it's all up to you to let the magic begin. You just have to supply the milk and cookies (some sugarplums are nice, too!)

SKIING and HUNTING: SKIERS! We are right in between two awesome ski areas. Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) and Wolf Creek Ski Area . You've probably heard about Purgatory but not Wolf Creek, which is known for the best and deepest powder in the country. Both have great and varied terrain for all skill levels and no long lift lines! Snowmobile rentals are available. Here at Lake Vallecito we have miles of groomed Nordic Ski Trails right across the lake.
If you want to just hang out in your own winter wonderland just stay home in front of our beautiful soapstone wood stove/fireplace. We have tons of wood - use all you want! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

HUNTERS! This is the ideal base camp! Just one mile up the trail from the house is Freeman Park, renowned for retreiving trophy Elk and Deer!! The entire area has good hunting including Wild Turkey.

We were looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy nature in the cool Colorado Mountains. This home was ideally situated at the end of the road overlooking the pretty side of the lake (no buildings, docks, or obstructions). Neighbors are not far down the road, but hidden by the trees. Not like in a subdivision where they are litterally beside you. No traffic passing the house to disturb you. The deck is where you spend your time, overlooking the lake, horse meadow, and beautiful mountain Vistas. The deck has gates to keep your pets and children contained. Nothing to bother you but the occasional barking of a dog at the horse stables in the valley below. Lots of deck furniture, kitchen well stocked with necessities, and an easy to use gas grill for cookouts. Everything is on one level, so no stairs to deal with once you step onto the deck/porch, which was great for our disabled son. Our children loved it and did not want to leave. My youngest wanted to stay. Said the only reason to go home was to see his cat. He is ready to move to the mountains. The only complaints the teenagers had were that they missed their memory foam mattress toppers (they are spoiled) and the taller height toilets in our house back home. The home has a huge living/dining area where the family can gather for activities, which you will only want to do if the occasional storm is passing through; otherwise, you will be on the large deck enjoying nature. Met the owners on our last day there. Wish we had spoken to him on the first. He knows all of the great spots on the lake and other activities. Make sure you get with him upon arrival, especially if you plan on renting a boat.

Three retired couples had a wonderful visit to your Lake Vallecito Hideaway. The home was very comfortable and well stocked. We could have spent all our time on the beautiful deck but we had a short excursion to Durango and hiked a few trails outside the cabin door and at the Vallecito campground. We also had a wonderful steak dinner at Virginia's Steakhouse just up the road. The colors were just beginning to change so that made our visit even more enjoyable. The owners are most accomodating and friendly. We hope to visit again!

We have found renting vacation homes to be the best, most affordable option for our annual escape, but have always been wary-it's a big decision and you can't always be sure what you're getting. Vallecito has been our favorite for years. The previous summer we rented a cabin right on the lake. The pictures and description looked great, but we were disappointed to find other cabins in close proximity not shown in the photos. This turned out to be pretty much the norm for lakefront properties here. We were not very happy campers! So when we saw the "Hideaway" online we called the owner, Kari. She was so nice and allayed all our fears, answering all our questions and assuring us that what we saw was what we'd get! She even offered to greet us on arrival and show us where everything was and answer last minute questions. That made us feel so welcome! We were rewarded for our "leap of faith" with an adorable home with complete privacy, all the amenities, and awesome views of the lake AND mountains! We really didn't even need to go anywhere, it was so relaxing, but of course we did plenty of playing around, the area has so much to offer. We really like the trail right up from the house into the Wilderness Area. This place is just perfect for us. No more searching, we will be back year after year!

Owner response: Howdy Folks! We're so happy you love our Hideaway. Everyone does and wishes they had found us earlier! It was great meeting you all and we look forward to seeing you again this June. Hopefully you'll pull in even more and bigger Rainbows out of our lake than last year! Now that you're spending even more time this visit we can show you a few more special spots. We'll put aside the mints for your pillows! Your Friends, Mike and Kari

I finally got a great vacation with no tricks (invalid photos), complete privacy and awsome views. The hosts were extremely attentive to our needs. Home was very clean and well maintained. Great fishing and conveniently located to the wilderness area and local amenitites such as the "General Store", resturant and horse back riding. Watching the fireworks over the lake at eye level was unimaginable. Great deal for family vacation or to get together and explore the outdoors.
