Huddleston cottage description
This cabin is a Family Treasure. Built as the original vacation cabin on Island Lane, road created by my Dad (retired professor from UVA) some forty years ago. Great Smith Mountain Lake location! Right on the main channel adjacent to lake marker R-8 where Roanoke and Blackwater meet. Expansive lake view with exquisite sunsets are yours for the taking. Lake vews from every window, and just a few steps below will take you to a private stationary dock, where boats can be parked. A few steps up off the upper deck will lead you to perfect views of 4th of July fireworks from Saunders Parkway Marina.

Great house - we really enjoyed our stay (we stayed to celebrate my mother's 60th). The house is situated right on the lake and has a beautiful view, but is very private. The area that the house is in is very peaceful. The owner was on par with the house, too - very accommodating and flexible with our visit. I spoke with her on the phone and corresponded through email - she was very good at communicating prior to the visit and made the stay very easy on our group. I hope we get the opportunity to stay for longer next time

We had a great time at the lake!! The house is in a great location on the lake. There is magnificient views all the time (sunrise/sunset). The house was just big enough for us. It was very cozy. The Landing Restaurant is located just across the lake by boat (5 - 10 minutes). It is a fabulous place to eat and you don't have to get in the car and drive. The Parkway Marina is located in walking distance, so that made it easy to rent a boat. Unfortunately, the house was very warm inside when we got there as the air conditioner was not on; however, we followed the directions on how to keep the house cool and it cooled it down perfectly by the next day. The bathroom is located on the main floor; therefore, if you sleep upstairs keep this in mind. The stairs leading to the dock are steep, so please be careful. Again thank you for the memories!!

Charming lakeside cottage
Charming lakeside cottage
Had a great weekend out at Smith Mountain Lake with friends and family. The cottage made a great base camp for lake activities: huge deck for grilling and entertaining, a nice dock, and a walk able distance to Parkway Marina, where we rented a boat. The interior is quaint and cozy... nothing fancy, but definitely comfortable enough for a relaxing getaway. Just make sure you get along with your fellow houseguests, because between the one shared bathroom and the half-walls in the loft, there's not a whole lot of privacy. Also of note, you need to remember to bring your own towels and bedding... they are apparently not included in the rental. All in all, a fantastic experience!!

Owner response: Thanks for coming! The close lake accessibility and the large deck make for lots of extra space for everyone. Renters are asked to bring their own linens. This is posted on the website and bed sizes are listed on the Rental Agreement.

Owner response: You are most welcome, and I am so glad your stay was delightful and you didn't want it to end!
My husband and I stayed with our 2 boys (8 and 11) in this beautiful chalet. The water off the dock is very deep but is so clear you can see the bottom when the water is calm. I was surprised at how clean the lake water was. The kids went fishing for the first time off the dock and caught a lot of little fish that was perfect for them to learn how to take them off the hook :-) The steps leading down to the dock are very steep, I would not recommend for younger kids. We rented a boat from the local marina and the kids went tubing for the first time. The only dissappointment was that the air conditioning consisted of one window unit in the upstairs. We managed to direct the air flow using fans to get the cool air downstairs and it cooled the chalet enough to where we were comfortable. Other than that, we had a great "first experience" staying in a lakehouse.

Owner response: Air Conditioning unit will be left on for all tenants during summer heat. Renters will arrive and find everything "cool"! Owner staying at property this week and kept AC on and all was well and pleasant temperature conditions inside. Closing blinds to the afternoon and evening sun will help as well. AC will be cooling the premises for arriving renters in the future.

About the owner: I am a musician and educator. The lake cottage provided to me a lot of special solace to practice and develope my musicianship on piano, violin, mandolin. Plus, I love swimming!
Why the Owner Chose Huddleston:
My father spotted Smith Mountain Lake 40 years ago and bought a largish track of land. In fact, he put the road on this peninsula. Several family homes were built and some lots sold. This cottage property was a gift from my father which was my home for 16 years. To eliminate a daily commute to work, I moved to town nearby, and created a beautiful short-term lake rental to share.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Amazing, breathtaking views of the Lake, brightness and light, peacefulness, serenity and privacy (during the week), lake liveliness on the summer weekends!
