Location: Prospect, Southern Oregon, Oregon, USA (Located near Crater Lake National Park)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)
Big Tree Cabin is a 1920’s cabin that has been fully updated and brought into the modern age with red oak hardwood floors throughout as well as tiled bath and laundry. We have mixes of antique, vintage and new throughout. We have kept the connection with nature and combined it with handmade simplicity and country warmth. It is a two bedroom, one bath home. The main bedroom has a queen size Select Comfort sleep number bed. The "Sun Room" bedroom also has a queen size bed and has a sunrise view of the Cascade Range and Union Peak. It has a private deck with comfortable Adirondack chairs for relaxing on a summer evening. The living room has a double futon for alternative sleeping arrangements.
There is NO internet access at this time. TV viewing is limited to DVD's. (there is a small selection at the cabin). The cabin has a combination turntable, CD player, tuner with a large collection of classic vinyl albums available. (from Old Blue Eyes to Led Zepplin) .
The home is surrounded by majestic Douglas fir, Ponderosa Pine and Incense Cedar. Most of these trees can be considered “Old Growth” by local standards. Many of them are 150+ years of age. This area was once heavily timbered until it was settled in the mid to late 1800’s. These trees are some of the reminders of what things were like back then. The Big Tree Cabin is located in what we consider a rural neighborhood near Prospect, Oregon and is on 5 acres so there is plenty of privacy.
It is a one hour drive through Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and Crater Lake National Park to reach the rim of Crater Lake. There are many things to see along the way including Natural Bridge on the Rogue & Rogue River Gorge. Historic Union Creek Resort (about 15 miles north of the cabin) offers Becky’s Café which specializes in Huckleberry Pie…a local favorite. The small town of Prospect is located just 5 miles north of the cabin. There you will find Prospect Pizza, a small grocery and a gas station. Just below Prospect there is a trailhead leading to Mill Creek and Barr Creek Falls and the Avenue of the Boulders on the north fork of the Rogue. Just across the road from the Prospect Store you will find the trailhead to Pearsoney Falls.
Lost Creek Lake is located about 3 miles south of the cabin and is a great place for fishing, boating and swimming. The marina located there has a small restaurant, fishing supplies and boat rentals. There is a small grocery with gas located just a mile from the cabin.

We just returned from our trip to the Big Tree Cabin and must say it was as wonderful as all the reviews state. It was very comfortable and a great getaway from our hectic city lives! The kids loved the old records and had a great time exploring in the yard. Steve and Janna were great hosts and offered lots of information regarding places to go nearby. Overall, it was a nice vacation and we would definitely come back to Big Tree Cabin!

This cabin is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Steve and Janna obviously put a lot of thought and care into making this a special place to be. We loved the woodwork, decor, and the collection of old books and records. It's also quite comfortable and has all the amenities you could ask for, and their recommendations for nearby activities and places to visit were also great. Really, I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Charming cabin, impeccably cleaned with awesome little touches like homemade jam and a bottle of wine waiting for you upon your arrival! NOT your usual rental! Loved it!

We spent a great week in this superb cabin. It is a delightful old property which has been brought thoroughly and carefully up-to-date, making it a luxurious holiday home . All the work has been undertaken to a high standard, with careful attention to comfort. We found everything to be well maintained and spotlessly clean. The owners are local and they clearly take good care of the property and their guests. We love to cook and found that the kitchen had all that we needed and was pleasant to work in. The living room area is very comfortable with relaxing sofas, beautiful hand-crafted wooden side-tables and a modern flatscreen TV for watching DVDs. The bathroom, bedrooms and beds are comfy, and very much thought and care has gone into providing extra comforts that we've never experienced elsewhere, though we've stayed in at least twelve VRBO properties over the last few years. There are lots of personal touches such as magazines, bathrobes, thick snuggly towels, and a bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge! Tasteful original artwork complements the decor without overwhelming it. The outside area is equally delightful, with flower beds, grass and beautiful tall trees. We counted seven different outside seating areas, including two with dining tables, (And a swing seat - heaven!) We had good weather and dined outside for most of the time. The cabin is situated in a very attractive area and is well-located for driving to Crater Lake and environs as well as being near to the beautiful Rogue River, with acess to walks and stunning views. Highly recommended! We hope we can return one day.

The cabin was clean and modern and felt like home. The hosts were very thoughtful with a bottle of wine and coffee beans. Everything we needed to cook and otherwise feel comfortable and "at home" was there.

It's such a clean, well maintained, and very lovely cabin in the countryside with great location for a tour to visit Crater Lake. Steve and Janna did a great job to make sure the comfortable stay and great time of their guests. All the housewares are polished and almost brand new. Kitchen is so well stocked with everything you need, and they provide so much information for recreation in that area. Our family does have great time there, and I'll recommend this lovely cabin to any potential visitors to Crater Lake.

This was only my second cabin stay, but by far Big Tree cabin is the best. It was modern with a rustic feel, making it an enjoyable stay for all levels of "outdoorsiness". I plan on making reservations yearly from now on.

Dear Steve and Janna,The cottage was lovely and clean as a whistle which we really appreciate. Thanks you for providing such a nice place for us to stay. We hiked a lot and did Boundary Springs from the north, which though poorly marked, was wonderful and a new one for us. Also, did Lightning Springs at Crater Lake. We just went as far as the spring because we had done Boundary Springs that day also and it was our third day of hiking. Had dinner at the Pizza Parlor last night. The pepperoni pizza was delicious!Thank You, Judy and Jim
