Great spot for three generation family vacation

Thank you so much for the wonderful home away from home! There were seven of us - my daughters, their husbands, and the two granddaughters. One night we were joined by my sister and her husband. We had a great week - only one day was a rain-out, Monday, and we took the children candle pin bowling. Every other day was a great beach day. The playground at the elementary school at the end of Summer Street was perfect for afternoon walks. We also walked into the village for the bookstore and candy store, and church on Sunday morning. My daughters took me kayaking (outfitter on Bear Skin Neck, walkable!) for my birthday - the young man that went out with us, Andrew, is going to be a senior at Rockport High - very knowledgeable as well as personable. The house is ideal for a large family - younger daughter and her husband took the third floor suite, I took one of the rooms at the head of the second floor stairs, grandchildren across from me, and the girls' parents took the big room with the stained glass windows at the end of the hall. The ability to close off the first floor rooms from the stair case was wonderful - I could be in the kitchen or living room with children, daughters, while the men slept in and no one was disturbed. The kitchen was really the heart of the house for us - the long table was perfect for games as well as sit down suppers. We used the dining room as the "puzzle table" to work on a big vacation puzzle (finished just before children's bed time on Friday), rather than have any meals there. All seven of us fit easily in the kitchen for meals, or just outside. The kitchen was amazingly well equipped, important since we are a family of cooks. My daughter got up early on my birthday to make me a pineapple upside down cake - she had brought ingredients, and found everything she needed for equipment in the kitchen - even a Kitchenaid stand mixer. We bought lobsters Thursday for lobster rolls at Roy Moore's, and corn at Latoff's. The awesome gas grill was used three evenings, doing the corn and other vegetables on lobster roll night. I look forward to making plans for next summer, and hope that we will be able to return!

Look No Further- This is the place!

I stayed with my family and my brothers' family with a total of 9 people in the house. And what a pleasant surprise to find that there was plenty of room to comfortably accommodate us all! The beauty and elegance of this rental is exactly as witnessed in the photos! It is a short walk into the business district of town where there is plenty of food and shopping along the oceanfront and the local charm is in abundance. The furniture and beds were impeccably clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of room for dining in. The kitchen was well equipped for those that wish to cook for themselves, with full provisions only a short drive away (10 minutes) into Gloucester. A fancy grill was also available for cooking outdoors. Plenty of alternative entertainment was available in the rental in the event of inclement weather in the form of classic literature and movies, made available by the proprietor. Laundry facilities were also available in the rental. And speaking of the proprietor, you will not find another more charming or accommodating! She was very knowledgeable of the area and always available to answer questions or make recommendations for eating establishments or entertainment. The locally harvested seafood was outstanding and if fine dining is what you seek "My Place By The Ocean" has a breathtaking view from the deck. Other local restaurants had equally tasty dishes and at very affordable prices. Beaches are nearby- both sand and rock to fit your preferences. If you have transportation there is also a State Park nearby. My overall assessment is that this rental comes very highly recommended- it was an outstanding visit. My only regret is that I stayed for 1 week instead of longer. EXCELLENT!!!

We just spent the last week enjoying this beautiful house. The kitchen had everything we needed to make delicious dinners every night - the grill was great! The rooms were cozy and comfortable. We loved walking to town. We tended to drive to the beach at Long Beach and Waengersheek which were great. Fantastic playground in walking distance-entertained 7-14 year old children! Can't wait to go back next year!

The house was great for our family gathering last summer. We needed a large house for 12 people. We loved the kitchen and patio. The grill is of very good quality. The house has a lot of charm and is very functional. We enjoyed the nice, easy & short walk to downtown & bearskin neck. With a large group, we needed multiple living areas, which the house has.Everyone also enjoyed their sleeping accommodations. We would obviously rent it again! Thanks.

ICING ON THE CAKE (WEDDING CAKE)

Guest: wedded bliss (boston)
Date of Stay: 06/19/10 Review Submitted: 02/13/11

Both my husband and I had traveled rather extensively before we got married. We had traveled with our families growing up and later we both studied abroad. My company sent me to many places overseas and my husband was in The Peace Corp for several years. When we decided to get married we really were ready for a home and a family and didn't feel the need for a "far away exotic honeymoon."We really wanted to have a small intimate wedding and spend time with close friends; several who came great distances to share this special event and time with us. With that decided we rented this HOME and i say home because this is a lovely warm and inviting home. Equipped with many surprising niceties [think flat screen televisions, leather bound library books, museum quality art ,beautiful linens, oriental carpets, yard fountains, amazing outdoor grill, terrific beach gear, the most beautiful kitchen in theworld!!!] After our wedding we,our best man,my matron of honor her husband and seven year old twins,my husbands other brother and his wife and their 3 month old infant[ in from Liechtenstein ] all went to this house to spend two weeks together. PERFECTION. IN ONE WORD..........PERFECTION. We had the best time.We loved the house. We totally delighted in the locale. We loved the owner who helped us in sooo many ways ; connecting us to drivers for airport runs-getting my in-laws into a pediatrician when their baby was suffering with earaches-getting us a chef to come and make dinners for us at her house, recommending a fabulous person for massage, the list is endless. She made herself available by phone everyday of our stay and she really was like having "the answer woman" on our team. We have pledged to go back every year-we have our reservations made for 2011,2012,2013,2014 and we would have booked more but she wouldn't let us book more than 4 years in advance !

We traveled America to taste New England summer

Guest: worth the trip (texas)
Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 02/13/11

This must be what people here REALLY mean when they use the expression, "IT'S WORTH THE TRIP" . We are here for two years from Europe -living in Texas for my husbands work.We had inquired as to where might be a delightful spot to holiday. Many Americans had suggested New England to us so we decided to try. We had our best experience at this home. The lady here was such a great help to us -giving tips for fun and activities. We have four children and a nanny. They loved the beautiful beaches and clean clear water. Everyday was a beautiful day with good adventures .My children rode horses, went whale watching, swam, built castles, went to museums fished and went to Boston, too which is a one hour drive. We had a wonderful two weeks. Next time my sister and her husband will come and join us here for their holiday. All my family is excited to return to Rockport Summer House.

EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS

Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 02/13/11

My wife wanted to vacation here so i said O.K.. We stayed two weeks. My Father always said, "A happy wife is a happy life."He is a happy smart guy so here-on wife #2- I've tried to adopt it as my motto. Well, she was happy. I was happy.Nice sheets and furniture and location for her-nice bed with a happy wife in it and air conditioning for me. We brought my folks to babysit so we could have some time away ,they were happy. This is one beautiful home-not your typical rental with no matching dishes or bedding and kind of worn looking. My mother loves to cook and is an amazing cook ,it relaxes her and she dotes on my kids like that-there wasn't one thing this kitchen was lacking. My father thinks he's Emiril when it comes to a grill- beautiful outdoor setup for him.He doesn't drive anymore cause of eye problems so he could walk the kids or my mom to town to have some ice cream ,attend a festival, or just watch the fishing boats unload their haul-he loved that harbor. The house has an amazing romantic master-bedroom sort of set off to one wing and a nice upstairs(third floor) suite where we put my 11 year old daughter and my wife's 13 year old daughter.Lots of times they HAPPILY disappeared up there for an entire day-it rained two days during the two weeks we were there and those days were peaceful and relaxing without the princes underfoot. We put my folks and the two younger kids( 6 and 8) on one end of the second floor and everyone had their own room and their own bedtime so that was pretty perfect. There's tons of stuff to do up there-everybody really had a great time and we made lots of nice memories.ONCE AGAIN THE OLD MAN WAS RIGHT!

We ended up having to combine our summer holiday with taking one of our children to their college( freshman) orientation at Tufts. This had not been my initial plan for my vacation so i was a little disappointed before we even began.....MOTHERHOOD !! I ended up being rewarded from the heavens for "taking it like a good sport" ! What a spectacular home right out of a dream.Beautiful kitchen comfy beds so incredibly beautifully appointed with everything from kitchen appliances to sheets to beach towels and sand chairs!! The home is magnificently yet comfortably furnished and the proximity to town made it perfect -not only for us but for our other children. Our tweens and teens both delighted in their ability to independently walk into town.We felt perfectly safe having them do so.My husband and i were able to have some private time. The house was close enough to walk-three blocks-but far enough away that the" hum" noise of town was heard-which was very peaceful and relaxing for me. The shops were lovely varied and interesting. My children delighted in boat journeys and fishing and cookouts. The local museums were surprisingly outstanding-the local dining options were almost city like in their variety-and when we felt like staying close to home there was a library filled with dvds, books, and games. We really had an exceptional time and in part that was due to the owner who left us pamphlets and an information sheet outlining many varied facilities and activities in the area-and at our request was always available by phone to guide us-even getting me a hair appointment at the last minute! A GREAT SPOT-A GORGEOUS INVITING HOME-A HOP INTO BOSTON-CLOSE TO LOTS OF SCHOOLS- SO CONVIENIENT TO A LOVELY SHOPPING/DINING HAMLET ......WE ARE GOING BACK ;)

To all who are considering renting this house. My family stayed at this most gorgeous home. This June my husband and are stayed in the master suite, the custom mattress was incredibly comfortable ( and romantic) and to wake up in a room with stained glass windows was such a treat. Through a recommendation of the owner, my husband and I were treated to side by side massages in the master bedroom. My sons ages 3 and 5 played well in the yard, it was so nice because it was private and safely fenced in and the "grown ups' could enjoy the beautiful patio and gardens. We walked daily to the beach, playground horse stables and to the quaint stores and art galleries on Bearskin neck. My teenage nieces joined us for part of the week, along with my elderly parents. The girls LOVED the toile bedrooms and felt like princesses there. My parents had their own suite on the third floor and were happy to have their own private retreat. The well equipt kitchen was great to make meals and the dining room made for a wonderful place for our family to gather. The owner, Erin, was very easy to work with and nothing in the house less than perfect. my only complaint is that we didn't stay longer. Thank you Erin for making our trip from Illinois to Rockport, Massachusetts a most delightful experience. Lisa and Mike Peek

#2 Summer Street, Rockport

Date of Stay: 08/02/08 Review Submitted: 08/17/08

This was a beautiful house in the perfect location. An easy walk to downtown Rockport and Front Beach. There is a beautiful view from every alleyway. A short drive to Gloucester's Wingersheek Beach. (Highly recommended) "The Magic Scarf Company" on Main Street in Gloucester is my favorite Women's clothing store in the area. Nice store, wonderful service. Rockport is a wonderful village for those interested in American History, shopping or sightseeing. The Granite Quarry was beautiful. This is a great place for seafood lovers. "Ellen's Harborside Restaurant " has good food and very friendly service. Molly's ice cream was the best with friendly service. Rockport House of Pizza does not have friendly service on the two different occasions that I have been there. The pizza was O.K. Helmets Strudel was fabulous, as was the view from their deck. I did not see much in terms of entertainment for the modern teenager, though there is a candlepin-bowling ally in Gloucester, where we had a great time. The house was clean and well maintained, though; I would not recommend this house for young children, as there are many breakables. The third floor bathroom is beautiful, however the stairs are a safety concern for all ages. (This can be fixed with a swing gate at the top) The kitchens did not have an organized flow to them, though the summer kitchen is comfortable and inviting. The description of the house was mostly accurate. There is no walkway to the beach, though it is within walking distance. I did not see any traditional beach chairs though there are lawn chairs that can be used. All in all, this was a great vacation that I was sad to leave
