Looking to travel somewhere with magnificent scenery, lots of wild birds, excellent solar orientation, and in a great location? We have just the place for you!
This beautiful house is located in Glorieta, New Mexico and just 15 minutes away from Santa Fe. It’s full of one-of-a-kind artistic features – For example, each bathroom has exquisite custom tile murals, and you’ll find stunning stained glass between the bedroom and living room. An antique cast iron fire backer dated back to 1663 rests behind the woodstove – You’ll feel like you are vacationing in your very own private museum! If you’re a bird lover, you’re in luck… We've counted a hundred birds at once at the feeders outside the windows lining the front of the house. You’ll observe stunning views out every window, which will constantly remind you why you decided to travel to this amazing place. Enjoy cooking in the newly renovated kitchen with granite countertops while socializing with your travel companions in the open living room.
When you’re ready to venture outside this wonderful home, you’ll find that the area is teeming with activities and attractions. All the amenities of Santa Fe are just 15 minutes away, including plenty of galleries and museums. Santa Fe is a true art mecca with a strong local culture and flair. Both tourists and locals love shopping at the Santa Fe Plaza and on Canyon Road, as well as attending the Santa Fe Opera during the summer. If you’re in the mood for some natural history, check out the Pecos National Historical Park where you can see the ruins of the Pecos Indians. There’s a great museum and walking trail where you can go all the way down into the kiva – It’s incredible! Our week long stay began with the owner dropping by a bouquet of cut flowers, and checking that the house met our expectations. The house was quite like the photos and descriptions. My husband, adult son and I chose this house because it is a great location to launch day trip to discover the area. The second reason was that we wanted to be outside the city to enjoy the quiet and the night sky. There it was, the Milky Way and even a few shooting stars. We timed the trip during a new moon to get the full effect.
The house is adobe, although not a classic design. Renovated within two year, it feels like a new house. One night the outside temperature dropped to 28 degrees, but the house was cozy from the passive heat retained during the day. We never had to turn on the heat.
The renovation was done by 2 artists and it shows. If you like tile you are in for a treat. The 2 bathrooms have extensive, unique tile work. The exposed beams in the house are hand crafted for a rustic touch. The tile, the woodworking, the use of reclaimed materials make this house a quirky delight. Several days into our stay we were still discovering bits and details.
The furniture—including the beds—was comfortable. I appreciated the sitting chairs and tables on each of the 2 decks. There was a table and chairs placed under a nearby fruit tree.
If you are all about the galleries in Santa Fe, you might want to stay in the city, but if you want to discover North Central New Mexico, this house is a perfect home base.
