Every year we travel to the Seaside area we get closer and closer to what we want in a house for future trips. This house comes very close to perfect in meeting our criteria--heated private pool, new, tower, screened porch, and walking distance to Seaside. They tended to many details other home owners have not. It was near perfect for us. The only thing that I think isn't accurately represented is the upstairs king bedroom. In theory it is a bedroom. It has a door, a closet, a nice private exit to the tower, and a TV of it's own. However, in realty it is really only a loft area because there is no privacy from sound or light (I heard coffee brewing downstairs one morning). If you look closely at the pictures there is one where you see three openings with shutters on the second floor. Those all open from the king bedroom upstairs onto the main living area. The shutters don't even block light--they are only decorative. So keep in mind this is more of 2 bedroom with a loft area. If your group all goes to bed and gets up around the same time OR you have someone that is a late night and early morning person, then it shouldn't be a problem. We may come back but now know that we can only accommodate so many people with privacy. I am certain that, with all the other attention to detail, there was a reason the owner designed it this way. But my "perfect" would be a walled in room!

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Owner response: The renter's assessment of privacy from noise in the upstairs bedroom is correct. We had to use shutters to maintain optimum air flow in the home for regulation of heating and air. The main floor king bedroom is completely private of sound; therefore, the house best serves one large family rather than two full families. We have found the main floor bedroom great for mothers-in-law. Because the upstairs has a shared full bath, it is best used for the same family rather than a whole other family with the kids sharing there. Thanks so much for your kind words! We have been staying in Seaside for 15 years and built a larger house, but we wanted a private pool. This 80's cottage was in terrible shape when we bought it, but we took our time and focused on quality over speed. We are SO glad other families enjoy it as much as we do.

We have rented houses in the area a few times a year for about 20 years. They usually have good and bad points so I'll try to include both. Good location, clean and wonderful heated pool. Small ocean view also. Thank goodness we didn't need the rental company for anything serious except payment - found them dismissive and not too friendly. Also, bring everything you need because there are no extras ie coffee filters, broom, spices, etc.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner response: We are not allowed to leave spices or any food type items in the home for renters due to the insurance requirements because there is always the possibility that renters could tamper with them rendering them unsanitary or dangerous to other renters. Also, we used to have beach chairs, wake boards, and other extras for renters use, but they have always been taken either by renters or others. Wish we could provide those things, it just gets costly to keep replacing.

This home is the perfect retreat from the winter cold. We have been going to the Seaside area for 16 years, and this was the nicest, most family friendly place we have stayed. With the heated pool, the screened in dining porch, the charming decor, and just steps from the brick streets of Seaside, we could not have picked a better spot. Can't wait to go back!

My issue is not with this house but with the rental company and owner. When we got into the house on Sunday we noticed a weird smell but did not think much of it. On Monday the smell was getting stronger and we could tell what it was. It was a gas smell. We thought it just could have been the fact the house might not have been rented in a while and everything was turning back on so we dismissed it. On Tuesday the smell was so strong that my wife was having really back headaches so on Wednesday we call the property management company. Some one did not come out until the late afternoon and when he did he did not think there was an issue but he thought he should have the gas company come out anyway. We then got a call from the management company to get out of the house and wait for the gas company. The gas company showed up and confirmed there was a gas leak. He then proceeded to turn off the stove and red tag the appliance. This is a problem being that Thanksgiving is the next day and and we bought all the food for the week on the Sunday of our arrival. The management company told us they would bring us a key by 7:30 am to another house near by so we could cook our meal but they did not show up until 9:30 am so our Thanksgiving lunch was not until 3 pm. The process of have to pack up our whole kitchen and take it to another house a half mile away was quite the ordeal not to mention the house that was given to us looked like it had not been stayed in in a while due to all the dead roaches in the house. We were told that we would get a call from the manager the next day and they would have a repair man out to have the stove working. This did not happen. We got a call from the same person that we had been dealing with saying they would not be able to get out until Monday. This is an issue seeing as we had bought all our food for the week in advance and now we have no way to cook it. So this put us with out a stove for 4 of the 7 days we we there. She then went on telling us that the owner was sorry and for our inconvenience she was going to give us a $250.00 discount. Between the cost of food that I now can not cook, the ordeal of the week and the cost of eating in the town that does not sound fair. She said she was very sorry and would have the owner call me. I said I had no problem talking to the owner. This never happened. I saw a credit of $250.00 show up on my statement and I never heard from anyone after that. I would not rent this house again.

Owner response: Unfortunately this renter did not report a problem of any kind until Wednsday night before Thanksgiving Day. This party had been in the home nearly four days prior to their report. The range had gotten bumped and the connection to the wall had loosened. Our management company offered them use of a kitchen nearby, but that was inconvenient in preparing Thanksgiving Dinner. We gave them a $250 discount because, even though the gas problem was quickly rectified, they were without use of the range for a day and a half from the time of the problem being reported.

We were in town for a long weekend to participate in the Seaside Half Marathon. We chose this cottage because of its proximity to Seaside & not having to drive or worry about parking. We loved that we could just walk up to the beach or to Seaside. Aside from the location, the cottage was exactly what we needed, and so charming too! It has a nice open living space, a bedroom on the first floor for grandpa and the kids loved the bunk room upstairs. All the beds were quite comfortable too. The salt water pool is very nice and loved that it can be heated this time of year. Would definitely recommend this cottage & look forward to coming back!

We love this cottage! It has so much charm and character and the large salt water swimming pool is an added bonus after long days on the beach. The decor is gorgeous and the cottage's close proximity to Seaside makes walking to dinner very convenient. We will be back and highly recommend Cypress Grove Cottage to anyone looking for a great family getaway.

                      Year Purchased: 2010

About the owner: We have been vactioning from Nashville to this area for 12 years and just love it! We built a new home two streets further away from Seaside and sold it a couple of years ago, so we were ready to get closer to Seaside.

Why the Owner Chose Old Seagrove Beach:
We don't like to drive everywhere on vacation...we love the concerts, movies, and performances at the Seaside ampitheater along with restuarants and shops, but we wanted our own private heated pool. Cypress Grove gives us everything we wanted plus a yard to play in!

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We love Seaside but wanted our own privated heated pool. This property is one house away from Seaside and gives us a yard, more square footage, and a private pool while being able to enjoy the amenities of the Seaside Community!
