Mellen cabin description
Cedar sided 2brd with loft, 3/4 bath and large great room over looking a beaver pond on Krause Creek. Set on 120 private acres bordering the Chequamegon National Forest, Krause Creek Lodge is tastefully decorated in a Northwood's theme. Easily sleeps 6. I provide cots for extra guests. The lodge has radiant floor heat, a wood burning fireplace stove. Built new in 2012 it is fully equipped with everything you need for a vacation. A recreational trail system borders the land so you can motor in on your machine and head right back out again. Grouse and deer hunters will be in heaven. You will never hunt all the land available to you in one life time. I can arrange semi to fully guided trips if you prefer as well as ATV and Snowmobile rental. Or just walk out the door and into the forest on your own. There is very little human pressure due to the remoteness of the lodge. A true Northern Wisconsin Wilderness experience on 120 private acres.

Excellent choice! Great for a large family!
Excellent choice! Great for a large family!
Our family of 8 (children ranging from age 4 to 13) stayed at Krause Creek Lodge for one week. The cabin is newly built and clean. The kitchen has everything necessary to prepare complete meals. We used the stove, oven, toaster oven, microwave, whirlypop, etc. The gas grill is helpful for quick meals that don't require a lot of cleanup. Bedrooms are spacious, and beds are comfortable. The location is ideal for daytrips to Ashland (great visitor center), Copper Falls State Park, Bayfield (for a ferry ride to Madeline Island), Ironwood in the UP (cheaper movie theater than Ashland). TV screen is large. Many movies (wide selection to appeal to all ages) saved on the DVR for immediate viewing. Best restaurant was by far the Deep Water Grill in Ashland http://www.deepwatergrille.com/deepwater/ Owner responded promptly to any text message questions. Eager to make stay enjoyable. The scenery is beautiful. We brought our bikes and enjoyed rides along the driveway and also into the town of Mellen. We also brought our Polaris Ranger and enjoyed the state trails. Be sure to follow the trails as the law enforcement could be described as on the over-zealous side.

Owner response: Katherine, We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope you will come back. Wait until you see the fall! The Hardwoods of the Penokee Mountain Range look like they are on fire in the September and October. Denise just purchased a nice little Bistro set for the front porch so next time up you can sit outside on a cool morning and enjoy a cup of coffee and experience a north-woods sunrise! We pledge to continue to improve your experience. Come back soon!
We had a wonderful stay at Krause Creek Lodge! Very peaceful and the cabin was beautiful!

Krause Creek Lodge is a great get away to hear the sounds of nature and see the stars at night! The lodge is a close to Copper Falls and a short drive to Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. We were impressed with the cabin's clean and welcoming feeling. Each room comes with very comfy beds (which made it hard to get up in the morning). The owner is helpful and quick to respond to any needs. We had a great time lounging, eating, and sightseeing.

About the owner: The Haugers are a family of four who enjoy the Northowoods of Wisconsin and all that the 4 seasons have to offer. We frequently go to the lodge to snow shoe, snowmobile, hunt or just relax by a campfire or the fireplace.
Why the Owner Chose Mellen:
If you seek quiet solitude or easy access for ATV or Snowmobiling that KCL is for you. Mellen is a 30 minute drive from Ashland Wi or 45 minutes from Hayward. The lodge is on the edge of the Chequamengon National Forest and in the Penokee Mountain Range. The trail system for Ashland County comes down the edge of the property so access is stupendous. This is a highly sought after lodging destination due to the amount of the lake effect snow we receive in winter and the miles and miles of trails to snowmobile or ATV on. Machine in and right out again. Very Convenient.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
KCL is very well appointed. I finished the entire cabin in a grade 2 knotty pine. The floor has been stained with an eco friendly vegetable dye and has been waxed to a high gloss. It has the appearance of marble. I installed radiant floor heat that can be turned up to the temperature you desire. Radiant heat warms the concrete floor to a nice comfortable temperature that heats the lodge very evenly. You can walk in your bare feet and not be cold. In the summer it has an opposite cooling effect as the ground generally stays at an even cool temperature. There are two bedrooms with new comfortable mattress and antique beds. A custom built ladder takes you to the loft where two more twin beds are located. I also installed a 297 feet deep well and an on demand water heater so there is always water for domestic needs and shower. The great room has lots of windows to give you a beautiful view of the beaver pond on Krause Creek. The Kitchen has all new appliances so you can enjoy a nice meal if you choose to cook. ATV and Snowmobile are available to rent and hunting/fishing guides can be arranged at an added fee.
