Elk Rapids house description
Enjoy this spacious and tastefully furnished 2200 sq. ft. home minutes away from breathtaking views of Grand Traverse Bay and the charming downtown of Elk Rapids. This 1887 historic home has been totally remodeled and completed for use. Two years of renovations touched mostly every room! This home is decorated in pottery barn style with Martha Stewart colors on the wall that extend your stay from the beach to the beach house. Perfect location in town is ideal with walking distance three streets from the marina boat launch and walking distance to the Lake Michigan beach, with tennis courts, basketball courts and children's jungle gyms. The home features an enclosed porch with screens, a new kitchen with nice appliances including a black gas cooktop, dishwasher, fridge, and microwave. There is a separate dining room with a table to accommodate 6-8 people. There are 2 newly finished bathrooms which include one with full vanity, toilet, tub-shower combination and one with a new shower, vanity and toilet. The family room is spacious with 2 large sofas and a 32” inch LCD flat screen TV with Direct TV satellite. Need more room? There is also a gaming room equipped with an entertainment center with a 27” TV and game cube (just in case you need the break!) The first floor has re-finished hardwood floors in the kitchen and dining room. To add in the comfort of your stay is a first floor laundry room with full capacity washer and dryer. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms-1 with a full bed, 1 with two twins and the loft bedroom with a day bed and ANOTHER full bed! Master bedroom is downstairs and has a queen bed.
Elk Rapids is a wonderful community with lots of activities for kids. There is also a local ice cream shop, toy store, antique stores, movie theater, bar and grille, Siren Hall for fine dining, and a Subway with free WIFI two streets away! The Elk Rapids Library which was once owned by the 'Noble Family' is downtown across the walking bridge and has free internet on computers or WIFI if you bring your own.
The property in the back has fences on both sides for privacy, a paved alley for additional parking, a small BBQ for use and a newly added deck.

Bride's last night of being single
Bride's last night of being single
We stayed in this lovely, historical home prior to and after our daughter's wedding in Elk Rapids, which is a nice place for a "destination wedding". The landlord allowed us to stay for a shortened stay as the wedding was not during the peak season. She was married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the reception was at the Elk Rapids township hall. The home and the hall were both historical landmarks, which was very interesting. The location of the house was perfectly accessible for both venues. We enjoyed the services of the Beehive salon, which provided many spa services and helped to make the bride feel like a princess. The house was perfect with planning of room for our guests including my 91 year old mother, who had no trouble getting around the first floor. Everything that we needed was there. The decor was lovely... the colors and amenities made us feel very special. We have no complaints and would certainly use this home again... perhaps the next time for a vacation instead of to host and facilitate a wedding. The landlord was available by phone to answer any questions that we had. The only thing that we had difficulty with was the Direct t.v. as we were not familiar with how to access it for our 91 year old guest.

Dear Val and Paul, Your cottage reminded us of our stay in Maine. It is so beautifully decorated and so serene at your home. We enjoyed the surroundings and downtown Elk Rapids. We loved walking along the beach viewing the crystal clear Lake Michigan. The shops are so quaint and the people in town are so down to earth and nice. The wine shop had some great wines I never heard of. You are so close to the lake and there is so much to do. We were centrally located, so we rented a boat and went pontoon boating, wine tasting, We took the kids to several places. We loved your place and hope to come back annually. I could live up here all summer long. Thank you so much for opening your beautiful second home to us. Regards, The Cuttles

Lovely Decorated Home for a Elk Rapids Vacation
Lovely Decorated Home for a Elk Rapids Vacation
My family enjoy our week long stay at this lovely home. We were able to sleep comfortably eight adults. The home is beautifully decorated, clean, all appliances (stove, refrigerator, microwave, air conditioner, tv,etc) were in working order. We made use of the fire pit one night to have a hot dog/Smore cook out which was great fun. We communicated with the owners only by email which worked well. My only warning to future renters is that the stairway to the second floor could be difficult for someone who finds climbing stairs a challenge. The house was built around 1880 so the stairs tend to be steep. There is a bed room on the first floor for the person who does not want the climb stairs. There are three bedrooms on the second floor but the two bathrooms are on the first floor which can be a nuisance at night. The home is a leisurely three block walk from Elk Rapids downtown which has several nice stores (gift shops, wine shop, ice cream shop) to visit. The movie theater is the old fashion theater with a beautiful ceiling decorated with a pine tree forest. Elk Rapids has a nice beach for children with a shallow river entering Michigan Lake. There are tennis courts and a play ground near the beach. The beach on the bay is also shallow but deep enough for paddle boards which we rented from Adventure Rentals. From the Adventure Rental shop you have access to Elk Lake or load the boards on a car to drive to the beach which is half mile west of the shop. We carried the boards to the beach which I do not recommend unless you have strong young men to carry them. The beach area is walking distance from the cottage. It took us 15 minutes (half mile?) to walk to the beach. Another interesting beach on the west side has an art sculpture walk.We also visit Elk Rapids museum which is located in a old church with beautiful stain glass windows. The museum is small enough that you can get through it in a half hour. The exhibits of Elk Rapids history and military uniforms were interesting. Elk Rapids library is a nice place spend a lazy afternoon in. It has computers and comfortable chairs. There are several public golfing courses near Elk Rapids. We went to Elk Rapids Golf Course which was a easy course for beginners like us. Finally, I recommend Pearl restaurant and Siren restaurants for dinner. We plan to rent this home for our future Elk Rapids visits which is the best recommendation I can give this lovely home.

Owner response: Thank you for another 5 out of 5 stars review and recommendation! Note that Google Maps has our home as a 7 minute walk to the main beach … with our kids running there in 4 minutes! This had been our 3rd year renting out our home and we have met some amazing people. We have 3 positive 5 out of 5 reviews along to go with over 15+ positive reviews in our visitor’s book. This feedback makes all our hard work in renovations that much more rewarding knowing that other families can enjoy Elk Rapids as much as our family and friends. Thanks again!
Best Vacation EVER!!!!
Best Vacation EVER!!!!
This home-because it is not just a house, this home was perfect for our family vacation! Everyone had enough room to have there time by themselves, yet the main rooms were perfect for us to share time together. The beds were comfy. The porch was a way to feel like you were outside, yet inside-loved it! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you needed to cook and we cooked a lot. The linens are great, right down to beach towels! The deck was great for relaxing and grilling. It was wonderful making so mores over the campfire too. The neighbors were very friendly. Would love to this all over again in a minute!!! I would strongly encourage anyone to enjoy this home on there stay in the amazing community of Elk Rapids!

Owner response: Thank you for this wonderful review! We have really tried hard to make our house a great getaway in this beautiful town of Elk Rapids.
We just returned home from this vacation and loved it. The house is beautiful and clean with so much space. The living room is very comfortable, which is hard to find in some rental cottages. We loved the location of this as well - you can quickly walk or bike to town or beach. Would happily rent here again!!
