Monterey bed and breakfast description
This newly renovated, waterfront home and property uniquely combines an ideal Berkshire location with privacy, land and comfort.
Its size, layout and amenities can provide either the comfort for relaxation and can be an ideal setting for large families.
On the first floor, guests will find a beautiful living room, designed for relaxing, playing games, or watching movies. The centerpiece of the room is a fieldstone fireplace. The first floor also features a dining room that seats 10, a gourmet kitchen and a wrap around outdoor porch.
On the second floor, guests will find a master bedroom and bath, two separate guest rooms with additional bathrooms, and a bunk room designed for children that can sleeps six.
Outside, a large barn, originally built in the 19th century, over looks the property. Guests will have the unique opportunity to enjoy both a beautiful lake and 4 acres of property with specially designed gardens and paths that lead to private access to Lake Garfield.
The Lake side of the property includes a wonderful private deck with a masterful view, a private dock with canoes, a floating swimming dock and lots of water toys.
It should be noted that Lake Garfield is the most beautiful lake in the Berkshires because it is the only one managed for weed control. The water is lowered each winter to kill off the weeds, so the water is clear and weed free.
The property is located in the quaint village of Monterey, MA, which has a town beach, playground and wonderfully kind people.
The property is 15 minutes from the restaurants, galleries, shops, concerts and theaters of Great Barrington (rated one of “the coolest small towns in the U.S.A” by Budget Travel magazine).
The property is also 15 minutes from the towns of Lenox, Stockbridge, and Lee. In the summer, you can enjoy Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, Shakespeare & Company, the Berkshire Theater Festival, Williamstown Theater Festival, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Edith Wharton’s home and numerous other cultural attractions.
The house is quick drive to top-notch hiking and outdoor spots such as the Appalachian Trail and Beartown State Forest.
In the Winter, the house is located only minutes from the ski areas of Butternut, Otis Ridge, and Catamount.

Wonderful Week and Family Get Together
Wonderful Week and Family Get Together
What a great house! We are savvy vacation renters with a keen sense for quality and the little details. This house has it all! An excellent kitchen, plenty of indoor and outdoor space, quality furniture, beds, linens, bathrooms, showers; not to mention an excellent waterfront facility, dock, and even a resident bald eagle just across the lake who liked to hunt in the shallows around the corner. The master suite was perfect, the bunk room had lots of room for the kids and even my extended family had plenty of room. And the fact that the dog could come was awesome. In terms of recreation, we spent hours on the docks, paddling the SUP, kayak and canoe. I encountered great road cycling with (very) challenging climbs. We day tripped to Catamount for family zip lining and exploring Bash Bish falls. I would also recommend this property for winter recreation as not only is catamount nearby, but Butternut is really close. Also, Great Barrington provided excellent dining and nightlife, and even a hospital for a 7 year old's split lip (boys will be boys)! As for the online listing, I think we were pleasantly surprised to find the house was even better then the pictures. We spend hours in the screened in porch, eating, enjoying wine and cheese - even when a late June shower happened along. I would highly recommend this property!

My husband, our two daughters, and I had a wonderful week at the lake! We loved the house and beautiful yard. And we had a great time playing with the kayaks, canoe, inflated toys, paddleboard, and floating swim dock. We had a lovely quiet week with the lake to ourselves after Labor Day! Everyone was happy to simply hang out at the house and the lake, we didn't need anything else. And we were excited to see bald eagles! One day we went to the Catamount Aerial Adventure Park to climb the rope courses and ziplines. What a fantastic time! It's less than a 1/2 hour from the house. My kids were so sad to leave, they really felt like this was home away from home. Thank you!

The home provided all that we needed as a family to enjoy the property and enjoy Lake Garfield. The water toys were great to use. It was an asset that they were there and we did not have to bring our own. Thank you we had a great week!!

We have rented in the Berkshires before. Sometimes it has been frustrating. We get to the house and end up having to rent a canoe or having to go buy our own cooking knives. WE DID NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH YOU GUYS. THANK YOU! The place was so tranquil and so well equipped. You had everything a family would need. Boats, Kids Toys, everything. Thank you. We had a great time.

This place is truly relaxing. We love the Berkshires and especially love Lake Garfield. I do not think there is any property on Lake Garfield with this amount of land and so reasonsibly priced. The barn is stocked with boats, fishing poles, toys, etc. We had such fun! When you visit make sure you go to Gould Farms, its about 5 minutes away - the kids loved seeing the animals, there is a great little homemaid pastry shop there and you can even go to the barn that houses the chickens and get fresh eggs! My favorite night was the evening my husband took the kids to Great Barrington for Pizza, and my Mother and I spent the evening on the screen porch, looking at the grounds, drinking wine and just talking. All in all, the setting and well thought out house made for simply a very special vacation. Thank you Laura, you are the nicest home owner ever!
