Kristin and Frida showed us wonderful hospitality during our 8-14 October visit to this amazing country. We loved the house - it was so very comfortable and a great place to return to at the end of a busy day. We had a very full trip seeing many of the highlights and some of the less seen events to include the elusive northern lights!!! And we saw them on our final night at 9pm as we returned to our house from dinner in Stokkseri. Amazing... The house easily accommodated 5 adults, even with one bathroom and one shower room. The dining room/kitchen area was perfect for our leisurely breakfasts as well as trip planning (all those wonderful maps!!) and the large living room provided comfy arrangements all around. The house held many treasures to make the the house even more enjoyable to include significant food staples, books galore, even scarves, gloves, and umbrellas. Our little town and the one next door each housed one great restaurant. Stokkseri was very cute, don't miss the one really nice shop in front of restaurant. We loved Iceland and our house was the perfectly comfortable launching place.

Wow! Everything about this rental was wonderful. A great location, friendly hosts and a well equipped house to make our stay easy and enjoyable. Even though we were on the road each day we felt like we were coming back to our own home each evening. We have rented many times using vrbo in many countries and Kristen and her mom were by far the best hosts we have ever experienced. Responded quickly to emails and were a wealth of knowledge about what to see and do. They even left their phone number for my 83 year old mom who was heading north alone, just in case she had any questions or problems.

What a wonderful experience. We loved Iceland and our stay in Stokkseyri was a highlight. It was the perfect location for us during our short stay. We were able to get to Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss and drive the southern coast. The house was wonderful, and Kristen and her mom so helpful in getting us oriented. It was perfect!

Our stay in the Stokkseyri house was wonderful. I don't have one single complaint. The house is better than the pictures, comfortable, bright and well stocked with books, games, maps & brochures from the surrounding area. We stayed for a week and saw glaciers, geysirs, puffins, lighthouses, hot springs, icelandic ponies, waterfalls, rolling hills, beaches and talked to farm owners who described living through the eruption of eyjafjallajokull in 2010. We were traveling with teenagers and there was plenty to keep them busy and interested. There were lots of places to eat close by, and shops were easy to find. We fell in love with Iceland and this area and plan to return as soon as we can.

We absolutely loved our stay in Stokkseyri. Before our arrival, we were provided with tons of useful travel information from our host on what to do in Iceland. Upon our arrival at the house, we were greeted by our host's mother, who had multiple maps, baked goods, a stocked kitchen, and even a local cell phone to use during our stay. AMAZING! She showed us some great places to go during our stay. The house is beautiful - as stated in other reviews, the pictures don't do it justice. This house has everything. We had three adults and two children - and this was a perfect fit. What a great place to come home to after a day of exploring. Although we had most of our dinners at the house, do not miss the lobster restaurant in Stokkseyri (one of the best restaurants in the country!). The location is great. On the coast, and within a short driving distance from amazing sites & activities; horseback riding, glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, the Blue Lagoon, and only 40 min from Reykjavik. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and we hope to come back soon!

Even before our arrival the owners were very helpful, sending us useful tips for our trip. On the day of our arrival they greeted us, explained everything in the house, gave us great recommendations for day trips in the area and had even stocked the fridge, so we did not have to go out grocery shopping that day. The house itself is beautiful and in great condition. Everything one could possibly need is provided. We very much enjoyed our stay there and were very sad that we only had 5 nights there. We would love to come again! In sum, we would very much recommend this property.

This home is absolutely wonderful. So spacious, clean and bright, also warm, comfortable, and perfectly maintained. Completely furnished, and supplied with all the extras! Even better than the photos and description of this listing. There are even more amenities than can be listed! We were traveling with another couple and this home gave us more than enough space. Stokkseryi and the surrounding villages are so friendly and very charming. We really enjoyed the delicious food and atmosphere at the Fjorubordid in Stokkseryi and the rauda husid in Eyrarbakki. The location of this home is ideal! A photographers dream! Within the four days that we stayed here, we were able to see all the highlights of the area, Gullfoss, Geyser,Thingvellir, Reykjavik City Centre, Hvalfjordur, Krisuvik, and The Blue Lagoon. As well as driving along the Southern Coast as far east as Jokulsarlon, seeing Seljalandsfoss, Skogarfoss, Dyholaey and Skaftafell along the way. We were also able to drive into Landmannalaugar, and spent a beautiful day exploring this area. The owners, Kristin and her mom Frida, were so helpful and generous with their time as we planned ahead for our visit. They offered so many ideas, links, and advice. Kristin was always quick to reply to any messages I sent with questions we had. We especially appreciated the cell phone we were given to use in case we had any more questions, or needed anything at all. This experience with terrific owners, and our stay at this beautiful home in Stokkseryi made for a worry free, wonderful vacation! We will definitely stay here again. We couldn't have asked for more!

This beautiful house could not have been more perfect for our stay on the South Shore. The seaside town is charming and has many activities within walking distance - kayaking, gallery gazing, a local pool, museums and a terrific lobster restaurant. We really enjoyed the handicraft market and meeting some of the local folk as well. The house is so well equipped there were even reading glasses in the bedside tables! The books alone could have entertained us for days, and the two porches were enjoyed in the glorious long days. Kristin and Frida could not have been more hospitable - Kristin over email in preparing for our trip and organizing our arrival, wishing us a safe journey just before we left, and Frida meeting us in person with a warm welcome and so many resources and suggestions of how to spend our time we wished we were there for a month! She'd also provided a wonderful selection of breakfast treats to enjoy after our overnight flight. Our only disappointment was that someone had booked right after us, so we were only able to spend a few days there. However, we look forward to going back for a longer time and would recommend this lovely property highly!

My daughter reminded me that we had never done a Father/Daughter Adventure Vacation. I asked her where she wanted to meet and she said Iceland. I agreed and told her I would make all the arrangements and meet her in Keflavik. We were in Iceland from April 26 to May 4. I learned it would be chilly, rainy and cloudy. However the big advantage was there would be minimal tourists at this time of year. I contacted Kristin to learn about their house in Stokkseyri. The next morning her email included information on the house and all the things to do in south and east Iceland. I let her know I would be arriving at 6 AM in the morning and my daughter would be later that afternoon. Well, she suggested to me that her mother, Frida, would meet me at the airport at 6 AM and take me to Stokkseyri to show me the house, how to work the appliances, internet, etc.. Than back to her house in Reykjavik for lunch with her husband. They even took me to the airport to meet my daughter. I have never experienced such kindness and making me feel welcomed to Iceland. The house was lovely and comfortable. It had everything you might want even including reading glasses, cell phone to use, wireless internet and even sleep masks. Location was perfect for sightseeing and hiking. Iceland is a country of Fire, Ice & Water. Our adventures allowed us to experience all of them. Here is what we saw, hiked, boated during our week. Stokkseyri is a very small town located on the Atlantic Ocean. In front of the house there is a black sand beach for evening and morning walks and a community hot pools to soak. I would recommend the following places for you 1) 3 hour Icelandic horse ride 2) Gullfoss Falls is incredible with double sided falls - there always is another waterfall aound the next bend 3) Geysir Basin make sure you hike up the hills to the west 4)Thingvelir - beautiful countryside and Rift Valley 5) Eyjafjallajokull volcano take a super jeep ride and walk inside the crater 6) churches - stop in the small villages to see their beautful churches 7) Heimaey Island take the ferry boat and hike the island 8) Svinafellsjokull Glacier hire guides and hike up the glacier and listen to running water and groans of glacier 9) Skalafell Glacier - go out on a zodiac boat in a huge glacier lake and float among the blue ice 10)Cape Dylaery see the puffins 11) Skogaloss Waterfall - hike behind the waterfall. Every evening we looked forward to coming back to their house.

The house and owner exceeded all of our expectations. Kristin was super-helpful from the start, mailing us tourist information and giving recommendations on activities and sites. She even met us in Reykjavik after our stay to return something we had left at the house. The house itself is clean, comfortable and well-equipped. We (parents and 2 teens) loved walking the Stokkseyri beaches and the lobster restaurant in town. We used the house for 5 days as a base for exploring the region. It's an easy drive to Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss, and many other waterfalls and glaciers. Horseback riding nearby at Egilstaddir 1 was also excellent. We just wish we had spent more time in Stokkseyri and less in Reykjavik!

Ok, first things first. Kristin (and her mom) were wonderful to us. The house was immaculate and everything they said it was. However, it is MUCH nicer inside that their photos indicate. The house (not an apartment, but the whole house) has 3 nice bedrooms, complete with duvets and black out shades on the windows. It also has a well equipped kitchen, a dining area, a nice living room with both a formal seating side as well as a TV- watching side, a full laundry area, and an outdoor patio with gas grill. Perfect!... this house is hard against a salt pond out the back, and across the street from the seawall and ocean. Stokkseyri is quaint, quiet, and home to that great lobster restaurant that people drive to from all over. It is also super convenient to the Golden Triangle, Selfoss, geothermal hiking and other treats. We drove east one day and made it all the way to Jokusarlon and Skaftell - a long day but TOTALLY worth it. Kristin was so helpful every step of the way, and even met us in Reykjavik one day to plan our our itinerary when we moved down to Stokkseyri. Be sure to stop in Vik and try the yummy Hakarl! Our kids loved it...

We have been renting VRBO houses for our vacations in the US for a number of years and have always had very good experiences doing so. That said, renting this house in Stokkseyri has been THE BEST VRBO experience we have ever had! From the moment we made our initial inquiry, Kristin not only answered our questions about the house, but volunteered a ton of great information about all the areas that we could venture to from Stokkseyri. She mailed us maps and travel guides, gave us tips on times and distances and which activities made sense to combine in a day, and suggested things like the best place to eat Icelandic lobster (right in Stokkseyri), the best place to go horseback riding, etc. Even while we were there, she was still emailing us suggestions. Throughout, she shared her love and passion for Iceland, and as a result, we were able to plan (and had!) a fantastic trip. We were able to see and do so much without feeling like we were just driving all the time (not that the scenery wasn’t gorgeous when we were driving!). Stokkseyri is a great place to use as a base for exploring the south and southwestern parts of Iceland. In our 3 nights staying at this house, we: • Visited the Golden Circle • Right in Stokkseyri we kayaked, had lobster dinner, and hung out on beach at midnight (across the street from the house); we went horseback riding just 20 minutes away (up to Uridafoss falls) • Drove the south coast to see the stunning rock formations in the ocean at Dyrholaey and explored the Seljalands and Skogar waterfalls en route • On the day we left, we went to Reykjavik where we went whale watching and shopped. • And if we had more time, there was plenty more we could have done from Stokkseyri too. We were 2 adults and 2 teenagers, and the house was very clean, comfortable, and well appointed. So much better that all of us could relax and hang out together, as well as less expensive, than having 2 hotel rooms; we also saved by eating a few meals in the house as well. And by spending time in a house in this small seaside town, we felt like we were experiencing Iceland, not just seeing and doing it. All in all, we feel fortunate to have been able to get to know Kristin (and her mom!) and glad we stayed in Stokkseyri as part of our trip. So much so that when we got home to the US, we couldn’t wait to share our accounts and pictures of our trip with our new friend. Thanks Kristin, for everything!

We are a family of 3 (our son is 15) who spent a total of 2 weeks in Iceland. We stayed 5 nights here in Stokkseyri, using the house as a base for exploring the south. In these terms, the house works quite well. It is exceptionally equipped and pristine, and a very good example of contemporary Iceland living (ideal for a vacationing family looking to explore southern Iceland). You won't find nicer people (who are also very quick to respond, helpful with information, suggestions, etc.). The neighbors have horses and the view is one you will cherish as the days go by (horses, open grass and distant mountains in the rich Icelandic light). There are a wide range of incredible day-trips and the proximity for covering highlights of the south is quite good. Stokkseyri is about a 12 minute drive to Selfoss (good for restaurants, gasoline and shopping). Five minutes west is Eyrarbakki, where there is a very good, moderately expensive restaurant, as well as a must-visit cafe-shack on the seaside (adjacent to the pier; delicious soup and coffee/hot-chocolate; lovely). And Stokkseyri itself has a world famous lobster house, moderately expensive, but excellent as well (shouldn't be missed). We recommend the house highly.

We stayed at this charming cottage for severals nights and had a very memorable vacation. The cottage itself is so comfortable and has so much natural lighting. Waking up and having breakfast with a view of the lake was so peaceful and such a wonderful way to start out on our explorations of Southern Iceland. The location made visiting all the natural sites so easy and to come back to this little village and home at the end of the day was unforgettable. Highly recommended.
