Eygalieres house description
This unique Provencal property boasts charming home connected by an expansive terrace that allows for two families or a large group to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing vacation in one of the quaintest villages in the South of France. Located in the old part of the village, you won't need a car to go have a coffee at the local cafe or shop at the market.
The first home consists of a second floor master bedroom with half bath and access to a balcony with views of the Alpilles where you can enjoy your cup of coffee on a warm summer day. Also off of the balcony is another small bedroom with a single bed. A full bath, large light living room and wonderfully appointed French kitchen complete the home on the first floor. A door from the eat-in kitchen takes you out to a lovely, large stone terrace where your group can gather to eat your midday meal at the iron table by the fountain or enjoy an aperitif under one of the umbrellas.
From the terrace, you enter the larger, second home that houses a bedroom that sleeps three, and has a view of the pool and the mountains. On this floor, you will also find a nice sitting room with two daybeds where you can relax at your leisure. When you go downstairs, you will find two recently renovated full bathrooms, the laundry room, a dining room and a large yet cozy kitchen with French tiled floors and a door to the outside. The second bedroom in this house is also located on this level. It is an enchanting place with a small winding staircase that leads to an open library that is perched above the sleeping area...paradise for a reader or for anyone who appreciates the power of the published word.
You will spend most of your time in Provence outside and this abode offers a wonderfully tranquil environment for enjoying the summer sun and blue skies. In addition to the main terrace and the large balcony off of the first house, there are numerous stone porches and patios and spaces tucked away where you can visit with others or relax on your own. Charming stone steps and stairways steer you from the terraces, past the rose garden, fragrant hedges and green grass and to the supremely secluded swimming pool. The pool (11 x 5 meters) is set at the base of the rocks the make up the pinnacle of old Eygalieres, allowing for a private oasis that is sheltered even from the mistral, the strong, dry wind that helps determine the weather of Provence. While you are lounging by the pool and enjoying the view of the Alpilles, your friends and family may be playing a game of petanque on the boule court nearby. Or they may be relishing in the shade that is offered by the trees of the terraced garden that makes up the remainder of the grounds. This secret oasis is a home to trees, plants, flowers and stone steps that lead you to the various levels of the garden. It is a magical place that is certain to enthrall and delight adults and children alike.

Stay in Eygalieres
Stay in Eygalieres
I was extremely fortunate to stay in this home for a week during my visit to Eygalieres. I have stayed in homes all around the world and can definitely say this property was among the most welcoming, comfortable, and charming. The views expansive. The grounds lovely -- apple and fig trees abound. The location, at the top of the hill -- convenient to not only the town but infinite walking trails. Though I was on my own this trip, seeking solitude to finish a book, I thoroughly plan to bring my family and others families with children. Not only is the property itself kid-friendly, but the two house set up makes it ideal for one or more families to enjoy being together while still enjoying privacy. As for Eygalieres, the village a charming and easy starting point for all things Provence -- with or without children. Do keep in mind, the village itself is very small, so if you're after more stimulation of the shopping, museum, and cultural facility variety, you'll want to try another place... But if solitude, tranquility, and a quiet place to rest after a day of travels is what you're after... this is the place. Finally, Jean, the property's caretaker (from the US) went to great lengths to make sure that I had everything I needed -- whether an extra set of keys, directions to the airport, or restaurant recommendations. Having her there as a source of information only added to an already wonderful experience. In short, a beautiful property, that I will definitely return to again and again.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
“This house was purchased in 1948 by my great aunt. At that time it was practically in ruins. My great aunt then rebuilt the entire house and furnished it with antiques from Avignon. It’s a real family house and we like to spend the winter around the fireplace. There are four fireplaces so we have a few to choose from! In the summer, we love to spend time with our friends at the pool and drink cocktails on the terraces…Not to mention, playing pétanque at the end of the day!” -Delphine
