it seems someone is living in this house and leaves when it is rented. the phone is hooked up and when it rings the recording blasts through the house, announcing the name of the caller and the resident. the decorations are very strange a mix of John Wayne posters and pin up models. we felt it to be an odd experience kind of paid couch surfing.

Owner response: We have had our beautiful Sparkling Riverfront property on the majestic Smith River (second cleanest River in the United States) for two years now. We do have high speed internet plus a land line phone for safety, occasionally our cell phone service is not good due to dense Redwood treed forests like Jed Smith State Park located 10 minutes from our Vacation Rental. We have numerous ammenities at and around our Vacation Rental that we hope out guests will enjoy while staying with us. Our most restful ammenity is approximately 900 feet of decking overlooking the Magistic Smith River, plenty of different sitting areas, one area is near our 6 seat jacuzzi covered tub. Another one of our favorite ammenities is our Japaneese soaking tub room that includes a two bench sauna, this bath area is striking in black and white with a touch of red accent and ALBERTO "VARGA" PRINTS decorating the walls. Our master suite is stately with 8 foot glass doors opening out on to the massive deck, one end of the suite has a California King bed and the other end is a lovely sitting area with 2 single beds for extra visitors or children. The bathroom is a man's bath, its large and roomy with brown leather faux flooring, a large walk-in shower (no need for a shower curtain in this shower) and JOHN WAYNE decore. Our second bedroom is a restful light blue with a touch of Italian in the decore, the hall bathroom has two sinks with a large tub, and a little leapord accent!. Our third bedroom has two huge windows overlooking the Smith River, great for viewing wildlife, we have seen elk, deer, bear and river seals The kitchen is spacious with frig, dishwasher, glass top stove, and trash compactor, fully stocked with appliances and dishes to make your vacation easy, the dining area has a 4 seat glass top table for fine dining or a quick sandwitch. Laundry has washer/dryer and plenty of storage shelves, You are welcome to help your self to what is their. We do have cement steps down to the river for a quick swim if you like or a gentle canoe ride. Southbank Road is a dead end road, if you are a birder you will enjoy the walk, Del Norte County has over 300 different species of birds. Their are many hiking trails close by Lake Earl, that will lead you to the OCEAN. We have flyers available discribing attractions about our beautiful area, local places to visit and dine, our local Chamber of Commerce has info as well as our Park Tourist Stations regarding our beautiful Northcoast!
A Wonderful Retreat
A Wonderful Retreat
This has been an absolutely wonderful place to spend a week enjoying Northern California. The home is beautiful, welcoming, and comfortable. Although the web pictures are great, they did not do the residence justice! There is a great deal of room in the house which makes it possible for individuals to pursue multiple separate activities or join in one of several community spaces (the outside deck, the hot tub, or the spacious living room for example). The full featured kitchen has made it possible for us to cocoon, cooking our own meals and enjoying local CA wines. The rooms were decorated with high quality and tasteful furnishings. Everything was very clean and there were ample linens and kitchen supplies. One wakes up in the morning to a wall-length view of the beautiful smith river. From the deck the river is only a few yards away and there is wonderful privacy as the land across the river is forested with no houses visible at all. Crescent City is only 10 miles away, and the National and State Redwood forests are very close by. Ocean access is readily available in Crescent city and along the National Park costal trails and roads. We were able to eat great sea food while watching local sea-lions bask in the sun then take a short ride to view whales near Klamath. Hiking and breathtaking drives are plentiful as well. Mitzi was great to work with and we would happily come back for another stay. The house and location are perfect and we could not come up with anything that would make it better.

When my wife and I found out that the home we usually rent in Crescent City was not available, we were very disappointed. We reluctantly chose this home, primarily because of the location (on the river). I can only say that it was the best choice we could have made. The house is beautiful, fully stocked, located overlooking the Smith River in a nice quiet location. You couldn't ask for more in a vacation home, it was as if the owners just moved out so that we could move in. It was a pleasure dealing with and meeting Mitzi. If they will have us, this is the only home we will rent in Crescent City.
