Our 10 days in Tuscany started in Lucca, and this wonderful apartment was the perfect base and launch point! It meets and exceeds the high standards in the photographs, was perfectly stocked, maintained and cleaned. And, Sonia proved to be the perfect property manager, always available, but not pushy, with answers to every oddball question we could throw at her! The business parts of the transaction were handled smoothly and professionally: The personal touches demonstrated Sonia's caring and respect for her renters, her owners and for the wonderful city of Lucca. We will be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

We stayed at this apartment for 4 nights in November 2012. The owner was not able to meet us upon arrival and sent someone with the keys. The apartment was very clean and the rooms shown in the ad are as pictured. The internet works very well. My issue is that the second bedroom is not shown. It has a twin bed, no dresser or counter space and is much smaller. There is also no photo of the bathroom and I think it is because it does not compare with the rest of the apartment. It has not been updated. The shower consists of a very small corner with a two sided shower curtain that does not reach the floor. If you use the toilet, your feet are on the shower floor. It is serviceable, but does not compare with the rest of the apartment. There was also a discrepancy with the Paypal deposit. The owner does not take into consideration the merchant fee that she is charged by Paypal. While in our case it was only 8 euros, I can imagine it would be much high for a more expensive rental. There was no instruction book with emergency phone numbers, instructions for the appliances, fuse breakers, restaurant locations, etc. which would have been helpful. The owner was very quick to reply to my emails. The location of the apartment was central and not a very long of a walk from the pay parking. There are about 20 stairs you need to climb after you get off the elevator. I would recommend this apartment but with a note not to be surprised by the shower.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I were met by kind Sonia. She welcomed us to the apartment and recommended some personal favorite places to eat. We were blown away by how well thought out the apartment was: firm and comfy beds, LCD TV, Wifi, 2 very cushy sofas, so we could both flop on to our heart's delight after long hours of sightseeing and walks along the city wall, which we did everyday at sunset. We also appreciated the well-designed bathroom that had the bathtub slightly set off from the sink and toilet, thereby affording 2 uses to greater privacy. The view, which we had plenty of due to the many windows, is spectacular. From the livingroom and dining area one sees the Dolomite Mountains in the misty distance and from the bedroom you can peer down into the courtyard of the Villa Guinigi (belonging to the medieval ruler of Lucca). When we were there they had a weekly fairytale evening during which actors performed the stories. We had the best "seats" in the house. Every morning at around 9 we would wake up to the aerial, swooping flights of the local swallows. Having stayed in many an apartment across Europe we dare say this has been the finest place we have ever stayed in. The owner has elegant taste and has taken the traveler's many needs to heart. There is even a washer dryer, so there's no need to wait for clothes to hang dry. We do have one suggestion and that is to have the instructions to the washing machine translated in English. It took us a while to get the machine going but we did get our wash done! And to other travelers, do not do what we did: Before leaving the apartment on the last day we placed the keys. as instructed, on the diningroom table, closed the front door behind us and to our horror realized the iron gate that opens to the staircase needed to be unlocked by key. Fortunately the cleaning crew arrived just at this moment to let us out so we could catch our flight in time. We will return to Lucca one day and we do, we will definitely stay here again. Thank you once again for everything!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to write and thank you for your very kind words! It was lovely to have all of you as our guests in our Casa Baino!! All the best wishes!

We had a week in apartment Casa Baino in September.Coming into the building in which the apartment is situated, you are immediately aware of its grand origins. The apartment itself is charming, light and has lots of space. There are wonderful views over the roof tops to Lucca's historic walls and the surrounding hills. You see fabulous sunsets. The apartment is centrally located and close to all the sights but very quiet. You can easily walk to the station. The apartment is well equipped with good quality appliances. We combined cooking and eating at the apartment (there is a grocery store and little market just round the corner) with eating out. There are lots of good places to eat but we particularly enjoyed two restaurants: Restaurant all'Olivo and Gli Orti di via Elisa. We would recommend this apartment and would stay there again.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

W-O-W! This apartment was OUTSTANDING! Stayed here 9 nights in May - some times by myself, some with friends while they were doing their own Italian adventure. Plenty of room to spread out, the beds were comfy, kitchen had everything we needed to cook delicioso meals with ingredients from the local stores, laundry was easy - right there in the apt. Using the elevator + 20 steps to reach the apt, you could see out over the rooftops to the mountains beyond... from every window! And the pastries in Lucca are off-the-charts! Wonderful produce in season, great salumi and cheeses, Had great meals with Pasquale at Osteria Pasqualino Gubitosa on Via del Moro, near St Michael's. Lucca is a gastronomic paradise, and Casa Baino is THE PLACE to stay in Lucca! One day we drove over to Cinque Terre, another we drove over to Radda and the Chianti region. Also took a "Tuscan Specialties" day cooking class with Chef Paolo, just outside the walls - fun class! But it was delightful just to hang out in Lucca... walk around the town on the fortified wall (several times a day after eating pastries!)... check out the churches and museums... and browse the shops.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: It was a pleasure to have such lovely guests at my house! Thanks for staying with us!

This apartment really helped make our visit to Lucca absolutely perfect. It was very large, well equipped and very elegantly furnished; the key however, was the location. Located right on the VIA GUINIGI, over the corner with the VIA FILLUNGO (main street) and the TORRE GUINIGI tower, it affords a visitor the comfort of roaming the streets of Lucca and knowing you could never possibly not figure out how to get home. Everything from Baino House is so incredibly convenient and accessible, it makes this walking city even more enticing and enjoyable. We loved every moment outside, but were always thrilled to come back to the comfort (and the amazing view!) of our lovely home away from home. The owner really outdid herself, and I am already looking forward to returning to Baino soon. Sonia and her sister are both thoughtful and thorough, and my confidence in them was well-rewarded with one of the best vacations of my life!Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you very much for your lovely words! If you will need anything in the future, just ask anytime! Thank you again!

We had two weeks in this apartment during October 2011. It is a very elegant and spacious apartment with the most stunning views over the rooftops of Lucca from all rooms. It also has lift access which is fairly rare in Lucca. The location is excellent – it is quiet but only a few minutes walk to the main shopping precinct. A forno bakery is adjacent to the apartment block and amazing delis and restaurants are nearby. We highly recommend it and would definitely stay there againRecommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Just returned from Italy and 8 nights at this fabulous Via Guinigi apartment. The apartment is roomy and well appointed. I loved the antiques in every room and the views over Lucca are magnificant. The days we saw the sunsets from the apartment took your breath away. The apartment is well located with small cafeterias for lattes and pastries in the morning around the corner. There is a grocery store and a very good garden restaurant "Osteria Antica" at the Noble House Hotel around the corner as well. We walked easily to the train station and all Lucca sights. Don't miss walking or biking the Wall. The one and only negative I have is the shower could use some work. I found the tiles and stall itself to be rather uncharacteristic of the rest of the apartment. Not a big deal, but, not up to the standard of the amenities throughout the apartment. The bathtub was lovely and I enjoyed a bubble bath from all the walking we did. The tub also has a shower hose which worked out nicely. I would highly recommend this apartment as I have rented several during my visits to Italy and look forward to a return visit sometime in the future. Thank you for making our trip to Lucca most enjoyable. P.S. some instructions re: the washing machine would have been most helpful. We had a wonderful neighbor helping us with the Italian instructions but even she had a few problems getting it to work. We perserved and got our laundry completed! Bravo!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you very much it was lovely to be your hosts!

I stayed with my wife and 10 year old son for 10 days in June 2011, and we had a great time. The apartment is really ideally located in a quiet area of Lucca (which is normally not as crowded as Florence or other towns), one that you can tell is actually lived in by residents. It is in a quiet mid 1500s building overlooking a small and peaceful square and church, right next to main shopping streets and museums. The apartment is nicely furnished with antiques and comfortable and well laid out. We appreciated all the little things provided that made life easier on a short visit (for example salt and pepper, tea and coffee, tons of guide books, wireless Internet, etc). When visiting Lucca the one thing you can count on is walking lots, so having a really pleasant and comfortable base makes a huge difference. Also being able to save a bit of money by cooking "at home" in a well provisioned kitchen is a bonus. One of our best meals in Lucca was actually one that we cooked ourselves after picking up fabulous fresh seafood and vegetables from the Market early one morning and cooking at the apartment.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words! It was a pleasure to have you as my guests in my apartment! All the best wishes to all of you!
