  Wow! is what we said when we walked through the door...The view and the home are beautiful, much more than we ever expected!! What we really enjoyed with our group, was the separation of the suites... All ,very private and well appointed....It was hard to choose which one we wanted!! The outside living spaces is where we spent much of our time...again many different areas that we all felt we had space to enjoy with out having to all be in the same spot.....the lower "Hammock Palapa" is a must...you've gotta try that!! Sitting on the bench in the Infinity edge pool is just perfect for having that afternoon cocktail....or Imperial...... joined by the Howler monkey's on some of the days was pretty entertaining !! We enjoyed the home so much, we rarely left the property.. It was just the vacation we all needed. Thank you Casa de Carroll

  Casa De Carroll absolutely blew my group of 6 friends away when we arrived.. the house is immaculate, with the most amazing view I have ever seen. (the pictures do not give it justice!) When we originally rented the place we were under the distinct impression that the home slept 6 - as in 6 singles, and the sweet little "guest house" was ours to use.. This home has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 6 couples.. the guest house was locked. We had one couple and 4 singles..so sharing beds was the only option - we made it work We had a fabulous first night there enjoying the pool and all the jungle noises - The next morning we all decided to go into town to collect supplies.. we all had brought our electronic devices to Costa Rica with us, and upon leaving the house we all made conscious decisions on what to pack along with us, as we have heard that leaving valuables in vehicles may provoke a break-in. The home locked up like fort knocks (every door, window, etc) so we left our cash, passports, laptops, ipads, and cell phones in the home, locked everything up and left for the afternoon. Appox 4 hrs later we all returned to find the front door locked (just as we had left it) we walked in and went to look for our phones and laptops to get the music going in the house.. We all began looking around for our items to quickly find that the phones and all the electronic items were missing, then we went into our bedrooms to find that all of our cash (that was stashed away) had been dug out of our wallets and GONE. We ALL had of our personal belongings rummaged through, and one of the thieves stole a back pack (to carry all our items we imagine) with a passport in it .. How we had to deal with that situation to get back into Canada is another story) One of the thieves stole a few pairs of my boyfriends shorts, leaving his wet ones behind. Real Nice. We were all shocked and dismayed as you can imagine.. it REALLY upset us and put a huge damper on the beginning of our vacation. The dollar amount of this break-in was at least $10,000. Casa de Carrol does not have a safe to keep valuables, nor does it have a surveillance system. We have no idea how the thieves got into the home it is quite secluded and we feel that we must have been watched by the thieves for hours before they made their break for it, not to mention how they got in- as I said the house was completely locked up. Huge violation of our privacy, this did not make us feel safe in the least. Beautiful Home Needs security

  Owner response: Thank you for your review. We were dismayed to hear about the break-in when it happened. Patti & I have had a home and been traveling in Costa Rica over the past 11 years. In our time spent in CR, we have been robbed four times in different locations (a rental home, rental car, and the beach). Costa Rica is a delightful country with warm hospitable people and the most diverse ecosystems in the western hemisphere. Costa Rica, as is much of Latin America, is a developing country stricken by inequality. As such, the reality (and implications of) post-colonialism are at play and the marginalized (poverty stricken people) take advantage of opportunities not readily apparent to us of developed countries. With that said, we have learned to travel light, using credit cards and keeping valuables out of site or at our side. This is the first time in the two years since the home was completed that a guest has such a problem. We have always felt very safe in our home and originally opted not to have an alarm system installed; Since this occurrence we have decided to install a security alarm and safe. Casa de Carroll accommodates 6 people and has three beds as indicated on VRBO and displayed in the photographs. Accordingly, the casita is available at an additional cost, as indicated on VRBO. Jim and I are truly sorry for what happened while staying at Casa de Carroll. Sincerely, Patti & Jim

  We are a family of 4 with two daughters (age 15 and 10) and this was our first trip to Costa Rica. Casa de Carroll is AMAZING and was the perfect choice for our family vacation. This was the first time I ever used VRBO. Dealing with Patti (the owner) was very easy and their concierge, Silvia, set up numerous activities for us that went off without a hitch. The house is beautiful and very private. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and the house was very clean and "like new". The kitchen is nice with granite countertops and most of the ammenities you will need (bring paper towels with you as the management company doesn't provide any). The pool is amazing. We were in the pool every morning before heading out to white water raft, zip line, surf or hike. I highly recommend Dominical Surf Adventures for surf lessons and a white water raft tour. I reccommend the zipline at Titi Canopy Tours where we saw tons of monkeys. The house looks much better than the pictures in the listing and is truly first rate all the way. The house is about 7 miles south of the downtown area of Dominical so you need a vehicle and 4 wheel drive is what I would recommend even though the driveway into the house is not that bad, you will need 4 wheel drive to explore the other areas around Dominical. We saw a ton of wildlife in our time in Costa Rica. We saw a Scarlet McCaw, Toucans, Monkeys, Iguanas, Turtles, crazy looking bugs, Egrets, etc.. The beaches are incredible and virtually empty. We hiked down to a few beaches (one right in front of the house) and we were literally the only people on the beach. The trail down to the beach is steep but not that bad since we are used ot steep mountains in Park City, UT. The ocean water is really warm and the jungle goes right down to the beach with coconut, banana, and mango trees all around. The Costa Rican people are so nice and accomodating and the town of Dominical, with its unpaved streets, is very cool and fun and has some good restaurants - we liked Maracatu and Tortilla Flats the best. Patti and Jim - Thank you so much for sharing your Costa Rican paradise with us. It was truly the best vacation we have ever had and now my 15 year old daughter wants to move to Costa Rica!! It was a vacation that our kids will remember forever. Being in a house like yours made it so much more relaxing and special than staying in a hotel. I don't think I can ever go back to a hotel now!! Thanks again!

  Wow! Where to begin...Patty, thank you so much for all the great information. You really helped me relax while planning the vacation. Thank you for allowing our family to stay at your special home. It was so much more than the pictures show. Your home is so breathtaking! The sounds of the ocean waves crashing rocked us to sleep at night along with the jungle sounds. We saw three different kinds of monkeys and enjoyed watching them play in the trees. The birds, butterflies, lizards were so beautiful! Everything is so green and lush, the colors were amazing. We loved walking around the house grounds seeing all the tropical plants and trees. The walk to the beach was a daily, fun adventure! The boys thought that was so cool. The pool was so relaxing and amazing to float around with the ocean right in view. Our boys (9 & 15 yrs. old) loved playing in the pool. The outdoor living was so relaxing, and we were so comfortable with the boys playing around the house and pool. Our whole trip we always felt safe and secure. We all loved the house and felt so comfortable as soon as we pulled in. The home was clean, decorated so pretty, well maintained. Thanks so much for the flowers, fruit, and especially the beer in the refrig. We had a long drive from Monteverde and the beer was cold and perfect! Your home is beautiful! We love it! The boys were so excited to pick which bedroom to sleep in, and switched rooms throughout the week. We had everything we could possibly need. We felt like we were at home. Just perfect! There was so much to do in the area or just hand out in the pool or beach. We had such a relaxing, beautiful time staying at your home. After a couple days, we appreciated the easy access to your home, and appreciate that it was on the ocean side of the highway. The beaches were quiet and fun. We spent hours body surfing! :) We are grateful for everything you did for us. It was the BEST family vacation we have had, and we owe some of that to your kindness and hospitality. Were truly grateful! All of us want to come back again next year and we would love to stay at your home again. We all cherish our wonderful time, and we talk about our trip all the time. Thanks so much! Your home is truly the best place to stay in Dominical!

  This Casa is pure European chic, with ocean views, minutes from the beautiful beaches around Dominical. These owners really took their time designing a wonderful place where inside amenities are as beautiful as the outdoor panorama. Perfect for entertaining, dining in. Everything you need is nearby: shops, beaches, restaurants. But we never wanted to leave the palace at the end of Puertocito private road. Bird watching on the pool deck was magnificent. Well managed, impeccable, highly recommended. You'll want a car to enjoy all the little gems along the coastline to the north and south of this central location. Hope to return. Often.

  My husband and I along with another couple chose Casa De Carroll for our first trip ( hopefully one of many in the future). We were pleasantly surprised as to how absolutely beautiful and clean the house was. After our long flight it was so nice to have welcome basket filled with fresh fruit, wine, snacks, and coffee for the next morning:) We can't say enough about the hospitality, gorgeous scenery, and wildlife we experienced during our week in Paradise!! It doesn't get much better than having rainforest and ocean in view! The Chorus of the Congo was wonderful treat in the morning; that is the Howler monkeys singing and talking. During our stay we saw lots and lots of monkeys and toucans soaring by the house. Another plus of staying at Casa De Carroll was the location. Dominical was fantastic and we were very close to the excursions that we wanted to do during our stay (Zip lining, snorkeling and Cano Island tour Dolphin tour, visiting the mangroves, local shopping, and last but definitely not least exploring the waterfalls thru the forest and spending a day relaxing on the beach. We enjoyed cooking at the house most nights. We definitely took advantage of all the fresh fish. We did go out to eat a few times and really enjoyed Tortilla Flats in Dominical, a wonderful pizza place in Uvita, and a great catch your own fish and they cook it for you restaurant. I believe it is called Tilapia El Pavon. It was great catching your own lunch in their tilapia pond! If you want to do lots of sightseeing this is the perfect house, or if you are looking to just relax than that is great too since the house is so inviting. It was easy to stay at the house, swim in the great infinity pool, and RELAX with a cocktail in hand!!!! We all are so looking forward to visiting Costa Rica again soon! Thanks again for opening your home to us and the wonderful hospitality you showed before, during, and even after our trip!

  Thank you so much to Jim and Patti, we just returned from an amazing vacation at their house in Costa Rica. My husband and I travelled with another couple and we're floored by the views from the house. The 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bath were beautifully furnished, but the outdoor features are what really set it apart. The infinity pool view is to die for, we spent many hours relaxing in there spotting toucans overhead. On top of that there is a detached palapa with 4 hammocks and 2 loungers which we used as our reading/relaxing clubhouse. The area is great as well, it's just down the drive from Cuna del Angel where we went for snacks and evening drinks. The driveway to Jolly Roger is also just across the main road (best chicken wings ever). Patti was so helpful in the process, I really have to say if you are considering traveling to this area you absolutely need to book Casa de Carrol. We have travelled extensively in luxury lodging and I can say this vacation definitely took the top prize! (one last note, we got great support from a local concierge in setting up excursions as part of our rental).

  Chose Casa De Carroll based on it's location and style. We were looking for something on the ocean side yet still in the jungle and close to Dominical. Since I planned on surfing quite a bit, my wife really wanted a home she would be comfortable in. We hit the jackpot with Casas De Carrol. The home is luxurious and in a very safe and convenient location. After a morning of surfing, I would come home to find my wife rocking in the hammock and reading a book. We would take a dip in the pool, sometimes with the monkeys in the trees above and a visit by the toucans. Highly recommend. Planning on visiting again next year and will bring another couple (or two).The house is set up with great separation between the rooms and each has its own bath. Thanks Jim and Patty

  Thank you, the trip and the house were amazing. When we walked through the front door and saw that view,Wow! The view was from every room and the way your house let's you bring the outside in was great. The outside patios and pool were so relaxing and comfortable. After surfing we would return back to the house and just regenerate in the pool and enjoy an Imperial. The palapa! What a great place to hangout in a hammock and read a book, the ocean breeze and the ceiling fans keep it perfect and soooo tropical. To be honest we worried that what we saw on your posting was not what we would really see when we got there, it was better! Your home is truly amazing and it was the center of memborable vacation. Thank you, pura vida!

  Our stay in Dominical kicked off when we checked into Casa De Carroll. We were welcomed with beautiful freshly cut flowers, fresh tropical fruit and snacks. Their are three suites, all with their own private baths, the master is upstairs and has a view of the ocean and whales tail from its private balcony. The rest of the home is laid out and decorated in a very livable fashion. There is an indoor and outdoor living room so if the bugs become too much you can retreat indoors for a reprieve.. The pool is perfect for a quick dip, during our stay it rained a lot so we enjoyed a lot of very wet swimming! Always a concern when you rent a place is what happens when something breaks in the in the house. Well on our visit the plumbing stopped working so we got a chance to test out the response from the property management company. I'm happy to report that within 15 min's of reporting the problem they had someone out to look into the issue. Turns out some roots had grown into the septic system. Very impressive response!
