Year Purchased: 1930
About the owner: I grew up in Maplewood, NJ and moved to Wellfleet full time when I was 20. I have lived here full time for 40 years so I must be 60- Oy! I work in the home care business, caring for over 20 homes and contracting construction and maintenance work.I am also a Real Estate Broker and would be happy to help you find your dream home.
My off-time passions are racketball and more recently fishing. I love my beautiful wife and my life on the Cape!
Why the Owner Chose Wellfleet: The home was first purchased by my grandmother in 1930 from Capt.Lorenzo Dow Baker the founder of United Fruit AKA the Banana King. It was passed to my parents and then to me. I hope to keep it in the family for many more years. We believe it was first built in the late 1700's as a supply store for the fishermen who used the pier that used to be at the end of the road. It was later converted into a Greek Revival Style home @1840. Before the white men took over the area was inhabited by the Wampanoag Tribe. The adjacent dune area has yielded numerous primitive artifacts.
The Unique Benefits at this House: I am mostly there to work on the place, which I love doing, and it is the perfect parking place when the flats are opened for oystering. Slurp! I live with my wife in the highlands of Cove View Rd. about a quarter mile away.
