Welcome! We just added a new video virtual tour link below that makes us want to be there now! Enjoy...
Nestled amongst Hiawassee’s rolling hills and horse farms in the shadow of Brasstown Bald, Fodder Creek Cottage blends settlers charm with contemporary elegance. Built in 2007 and winner of five design awards, our mountain retreat provides a perfect getaway for relaxation and romance.
Ideal for couples or a small family, Fodder Creek Cottage accommodates up to seven people. The downstairs offers an open floor plan with gourmet kitchen, great room with stacked stone fireplace and a guest bedroom fitted with a queen-sized log bed, pull-out trundle, and full bath. The luxurious master suite encompasses the second floor, providing a sanctuary within. The suite features cathedral ceilings, stone fireplace, wet bar with refrigerator and microwave, and café seating for two. The king canopy bed was commissioned to reflect the trees viewed from the large windows. A daybed with mountain views creates an idyllic reading nook and sleeps an additional two. The suite also features two bathrooms: one for him with shower, and one for her with a jetted tub and large vanity.
You’ll want to sit for hours on the flagstone and wood patios entranced by the rush of Fodder Creek and the canopy of mountain laurel. The property winds along 500 feet of creek front, with holes deep enough to bathe. Trout have been caught in these spring-fed waters. We trust that Fodder Creek Cottage’s soothing magic will leave you refreshed and restored.
Just minutes from the Cottage door you’ll find beautiful Lake Chatuge (3.6 mi.) with its abundant water sports, downtown Hiawasseee (6 mi.), providing an array of restaurants, shopping and music, and the Georgia Mountain Fair Grounds (8 mi.). Outdoor sports for every taste abound-- golf, hiking, canoeing, whitewater rafting and kayaking, horseback riding, etc. Short drives to the Bavarian village of Helen, historic Hayesville, and the Cherokee valley towns make Fodder Creek Cottage a perfect home base for exploring the region’s diverse charms.

The pictures are exactly as the house is upon arrival. We loved the house. It isn't too big but plenty of room to feel comfortable. The master suite is is really nice. My favorite was the firepit and creek. We loved the outdoor area. We will definately be back. Easy access to Helen, Young Harris as well as Hiawasee and Brasstown Bald. The owner was very nice, responsive and easy to work with. The house was very well maintained and clean. Definately recommend this rental.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

This was an amazing rental with many activities. My family enjoyed the long days on the lake and the cool evenings by the fire pit with the stream in the background. The cabin is beautifully decorated and very easily accessible from town. I trailered my boat every evening and had plenty of parking space for it, 24', and my vehicle. This is definitely an annual event for my family now...Lake Chatuge is beautiful!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Our stay was 'perfect'. The cabin is beautifully decorated and we were embraced with 'warmth' as soon as we walked through the door. My sister and I usually take a trip to the mountains at least once a year, Our favorite spot was sitting by the babbling brook and enjoying cocktails while listening to music and sounds of nature. The area is very convenient to Helen and other places of interest. It's a very serene atmosphere and we will definitely visit again. Thanks so much for a memorable trip. :)Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We just returned from a weeks stay at this beautiful cabin and I can't wait to visit again in the spring. The pictures don't do the cabin justice. The decor was beautiful and the cabin was very comfortable. The creekside location provided a calm and serene environment, although downtown Hiawassee was less than 5 miles away. This cabin is perfectly located between Helen and Hiawassee, less than an hour to Dillard, Blue Ridge, and all the North GA activities.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Our family just returned from a very relaxing time at Fodder Creek Cottage. The Cottage is even more beautiful than the pictures shown above. The owners have done a wonderful job to make the place cozy, welcoming, relaxing and artsy - with many local touches. The Cottage has everything you need to make you feel complete. The entire family LOVED the creek; it provided fun water play for our 10 yr old, in addition to peace and serenity in the mornings for the adults. We also enjoyed the proximity to Brasstown Bald, Lake Chatuge and Blue Ridge. Thanks for a great trip!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

The Fodder Creek Cottage was perfect for our long 4th of July weekend. It made a great home base as we took advantage of the AT and Lake Chatuge which were both very convenient. Although we were busy while there, we enjoyed the cottage every chance that we could. The master suite is awesome and the back deck, patio, fire pit and creek area is peaceful and beautiful. Yes, we would recommend this property to anyone because it was everything and more discribed on the website. We had great luck with restaurants while there - try Smoke Ring BBQ for a casual meal and for more upscale dining The Chop House. Grilling steaks at the cottage was fun and easy also. The owner of this property was very through and helpful, thinking of every little detail. Hope to go back soon. What a wonderful retreat!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

About the owner: My husband's family has roots in the area that go back to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, so these mountains are special to us and our two small children. My husband teaches at Georgia State University and enjoys hiking and whitewater canoeing. I am a massage therapist and enjoy gardening and the vistas afforded by Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge. Our children love playing in Fodder Creek, the beach at Lake Chatuge, and eating at the family-style restaurants in Hiawassee.
Why the Owner Chose Hiawassee:
After a long search, we were thrilled to buy Fodder Creek Cottage as our special retreat for enjoying family, friends, and the beauty of the North Georgia and North Carolina mountains. We instantly fell in love with Fodder Creek Cottage's unique architecture and dramatic, creekside landscape. Every time the mountain vistas of Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge come into view our hearts lighten and bodies relax. We feel most alive when we're recreating amidst these old mountains, so close to our Cherokee and settler roots.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The cottage nestles so close along Fodder Creek that its rushing song will relax you day and night. The matchless beauty of its unique, award-winning architecture will fill your memories for long after. When you venture out, everything you need is near and easy-- beautiful Lake Chatuge (3.2 m), shopping and restaurants in downtown Hiawassee (5 m), the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds (6 m), and Bald Mountain Park (300 yds). Easy drives to outdoor activities of every kind and Helen, Georgia make this the ideal mountain getaway.
