We spent a most enjoyable week in Casa de Jacobus. The house is immaculately and very tastefully furnished, with all the supplies one could want in both the kitchen and bathroom. The bed is very comfortable, and the outside deck is a real treat, even in 99 degree heat with its overhead fan to move the air around. We enjoyed most of our meals out there - listening to the doves cooing, and the church bells (or maybe the university carillon) chiming the time. Easy walking distance to the UA campus; 4th Avenue shops; under the railroad tracks to the downtown arts and restaurant area, library, barrio historico. Walking around the immediate historic neighborhood was a treat as well - going different directions each trip. The owner left us two passes to the Tucson Botanical Garden - a nice ending to having seen all those plants out in the wilds all week. Outside of town, we enjoyed the Sonoran Desert Museum (get there when it opens at 7:30 a.m.), and walking the 7.5 mile roundtrip Sabilo Canyon (again starting on the trail at 7:00 a.m) We can't recommend Casa de Jacobus highly enough. Thank you Mary for your thoughtfulness in all respects.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Wow... thanks for the great review! Good hint to tell people to arrive at the Desert Museum when it opens. Glad you were able to use the pass to the Botanical Gardens... that's a local gem that out-of-towners don't always get to enjoy. All the best, MG

Loved Casa De Jacobus!!! The property was clean, very comfortable, well maintained and in a really convenient location. I would definitely recommend this property and look forward to staying there again!! I felt at home as soon as I walked in the door. Within walking distance of the university, the 4th Avenue shopping and restaurant district and even downtown. The house was conveniently located but was still very quiet.Owner response: Great to hear you felt right at home... that's exactly what I aim for! Hope to see you again in Tucson.

My wife and I spent 7 nights at Casa de Jacobus. The location is ideal for anyone wishing to be within short walking distance of the University of Arizona. It located two blocks west of campus. In addition, it is very close (walking-distance) to restaurants and watering holes along 4th avenue and to the Time Market, which is worth a visit. The accommodation was perfect for a couple with a comfortable bed, living room and small dining area. The kitchen is also well-equipped. Mary has kept her rates very reasonable. Definitely would recommend to friends.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Enjoyed having you! Thanks for choosing "Casa de Jacobus".

My wife and I spent 3 weeks in Tucson last year, and enjoyed ourselves, but our experience this year was so much better staying at Casa de Jacobus. Sandwiched between the UA campus and funky 4th Ave. this spacious cottage was ideally located, allowing us to walk to all kinds of interesting things in Tucson. As well it's only 10 minutes from the freeway for out of town trips. What surprised me most was the size of Casa de Jacobus. From the pictures and the price I was concerned it might be pokey. Not so. The original house has been added onto so, it has an eccentric layout but with generous room for two people. It is furnished with a large and comfy bed, lovely wooden furniure, and interesting art posters throughout. We were delighted to find gas range in the kitchen. There is a large ramada in the back yard where we were able to enjoy the warm sunny days. The owner has provided a large array of brochures and books on attractions and history of both Tucson and southern Arizona. She was very helpful answering questions and responded immediately and quickly resolved the problem when the garburator plugged. We were self catering for most meals and found the nearby Food Conspiracy Coop an excellent source for most of our needs, particularly fresh local organic produce and bulk goods. This meant we could shop frequently and only purchase what we needed including small quantities of spices or teas. The nearby 4th Ave. district is packed with restaurants, bars, and quirky shops. We particularly enjoyed the Time Market and Deli for pizza or the hummus platter (with an extra pita feeds 2for under 7 bucks.) The B Line Bakery was a 4th Ave. favorite and for crepes better than in Paris checkout Marcel's Cafe. Between 4th and downtown is the art warehouse district filled with artist workshops and galleries. For coffee true afficanados should seek out EXO Coffee Co.@ 6thAve. & 7th St. We really enjoyed the Old Presidio walking tour: see brochure @ C de J. Take it slow, divide the route into at least 2 outings. Check out the el Tradito shrine on S. Main and get lunch nearby at El Minuto Cafe. We definitely would, in fact, already have recommended Casa de Jacobus to friends or family visiting Tucson. Our advice is to book early.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It was a pleasure hosting you and your wife for the month of January. Thanks for posting all the local recommendations! It illustrates there is so much to do even within walking distance of "Casa de Jacobus". For those who don't know... garburator = garbage disposal in Canadian. Look forward to hosting on your next trip to Tucson!

Casa De Jacobus was perfect for an extended summer stay. Though the weather was hot, the house was cool, and its proximity to the University, 4th Avenue, and Downtown made it easy to enjoy all that Tucson has to offer. In the mornings my girlfriend and I would enjoy coffee on the deck out back, enjoying the smell of the mesquite tree and the sounds of the desert waking up. Mary was a generous and accommodating host, with lots of great advice and insight about what to see in Tucson. I highly recommend the Casa de Jacobus, and will certainly return if I venture again to the Southwest. Great house!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks! So nice to get your review... even Tucson in July can be a destination with the right A/C and a backyard deck.

My husband & I visited Tucson to attended the 2012 Arizona International Film Festival and we stayed at Casa de Jacobus for five nights. From the moment we arrived we were delighted by the accommodations - peaceful, charming, well-appointed and loaded with thoughtful touches. The location is unbeatable, an easy walk to 4th St. and downtown Tucson. One of the best things about staying in a house, as opposed to a hotel room, is that you have the option of having guests over for dinner and we did just that. Our filmmaker friends were equally impressed with Casa de Jacobus and we really appreciated being able to host them, it made our stay that much more special. One of our favorite "thoughtful touches" of Casa de Jacobus was the use of a GPS device during our stay - Tucson is fairly easy to navigate but that made it so much easier! We highly recommend Casa de Jacobus to other travelers and hope to stay there again ourselves next time we visit Tucson.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks LM! I'm thrilled I was a small part of the AZ International Film Festival. You were my first Canadian visitors! Loved the comment about the GPS. I hope to see you on your next visit to the Southwest. All the best, MG

Casa de Jacobus is a lovely 1100 square foot 1920's home on a quiet street. It is within walking distance of the University of Arizona, the 4th Street shops and downtown. We drove only to reach places outside Tucson. Mary met us at the house to show us all the features. The kitchen had everything you need to cook all meals if so desired, but there are so many good restaurants within walking distance that we only used it for breakfast. The bath was stocked with Burt's Bees products including sunscreen in case you forgot to bring it. There were plenty of places to put all our things. It was so nice to sit out on the deck in the afternoon and relax after a busy day of sightseeing and the washer and dryer were much appreciated in this hot climate. The house is very bright, and spacious for two. We could easily have stayed for a month and been perfectly comfortable.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the nice review! You were the second person to thank me for finding the sunscreen! Nice to meet you, MG

We so enjoyed our stay at Casa de Jacobus during February and March. A calm, peaceful and relaxing house in which the rooms have been thoughtfully arranged resulting in a sense of spaciousness. The kitchen and bathroom are well equipped and thoughtfully provided for. We enjoyed cooking and eating our meals in the sunshine on the decking. A private rear garden. The house is well located which allowed us to walk to local shops and cafes as well as walk to downtown areas. Infact we could well have managed without a car, though we did use it for visiting friends and areas such as Sabino Canyon. I was able to continue my website work that I had brought with me and my partner was delighted to find voluntary work in a local school running children's workshops in clay. Casa de Jacobus is a delightful place to stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the kind workds! I'm sure our local school also really appreciated the volunteer work. I look forward to seeing you again.

I have stayed at the Casa De Jacobus twice, most recently in February for two weeks. Each time I found more things to like about it. I felt right at home. The house is in the heart of Tucson, close to the best restaurants and grocery stores. It is a lovely and clean place and it has everything one needs for a comfortable stay. Everything prepared with care and accuracy. Even the mattress is great which is rare to find in a rental home. I will definitely recommend it and I will stay there on my next visit.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you M! Such a pleasure to have you return. My first repeat customer! I look forward to seeing you on your annual trip to Tucson for many years to come. All the best, MG

My husband and I spent a week in Tuscon from December 24, 2011-January 1, 2012. It was our first visit to Tucson and Casa de Jacobus provided the perfect location for our exploration of the area. The owner met us at the property and gave us a tour of the house. She also gave us a Christmas gift and complimentary tickets to one of the museums and a local park. She was very hospitable and welcoming. The house itself was charming. It has many historic details, yet was both large enough for us and very comfortable. It certainly met all of our needs and exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the amenities for us to enjoy cooking. Yet the house is close enough to restaurants and shops in the University area twithin walking distance to enjoy eating out. There was plenty of information on the area and its many attractions. We enjoyed the Tuscson Museum very much and Cafe de L'Art, which is on the property. The Desert Musuem is a must see. The University of Arizona observatory offers free stargazing, which we enjoyed immensely. We loved Saguro National Park. Our favorite restaurant was The Hub, which is downtown. It has wonderful home-made entries and the best ice cream ever! The carmel ice cream was absolutely delicious!. As for Tubac, a little too toursity for us. We also found the locals extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much and I already recommended Casa de Jacobus to my sister who may make a visit in March. I highly recommend this property for its comfort, charm and great location.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed the holidays in Tucson! Great to add the suggestions for site-seeing and restaurants. Thanks also for the referral... that speaks volumes. Hope to see you again, Mary Ganapol

Our stay started with a introduction to the home by the owner. The space was a perfect getaway for my wife and I. The location, right off 4th street was close to great restaurants, shopping and artisan stores. The backyard was private and bathed in the afternoon sunlight. The neighborhood provided access to the old town, small community feel of Tucson.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: So glad you both enjoyed your visit to Tucson and Casa de Jacobus. I hope to see you back again for another get-away and more site-seeing in beautiful Southern AZ.

I really enjoyed my stay in "Casa de Jacobus". It's perfectly located near the UA and 4th Avenue, which meant I didn't have to drive much for my entertainment. The house itself is easy to live in, nicely finished, bed was big and comfortable. I also liked sitting out side on the patio in the evenings. It has central A/C, which is important - I really don't like the evaporative ("swamp") coolers that lots of older homes in Tucson have. And despite being near campus, it was very quiet. I'll stay here again and I'm happy to recommend it. (P.S. There's also free wifi in the house.)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Dave. Look forward to having you stay at Casa de Jacobus for your future trips to Tucson! (Date of stay was five days in March 2011)
