At Verandah, you’re surrounded by what you love - whether it’s championship golf, the delights of River Village or simply the great outdoors. It's a place that invites discovery one day at a time. Find that favorite spot to sit back with a good book or relax with a bite to eat and a tall, cold drink. Chart a new path for your morning jog or bike ride. Glide down the river in a canoe, with your line and hook dangling in the current. Take a long walk. Or stop, inhale the fragrant air and admire the view. While your home has all the conveniences and luxuries of modern life, it's those simple pleasures that make being at Verandah so remarkable.
This emerald corner of Florida is one of the country's most appealing places to live. The subtropical climate makes the outdoors the centerpiece of life—for recreation, sport and, of course, dining and entertainment. By day, there are golf courses, beaches, boating waters and boulevards of shops to explore. And by night, restaurants, clubs and theaters from Fort Myers to Naples light up the shoreline. This is Southwest Florida, perhaps the last true paradise on the gulf coast.
Nine miles of nature and fitness trails. 31 acres of brilliantly colorful parks. 125 acres of wetlands, protected for your enjoyment. And over 1,000 acres of glorious open spaces. Wherever you roam at Verandah, you'll behold ornate works of nature's art. It is truly an idyllic escape, buffered by lush, tropical foliage from the rest of the world. Find yourself amidst a regal display of grand oaks in Oak Park. Invite your furry friends to frolic in Dog Park. And watch the kids cavort in the Oak Park playground. Verandah inevitably brings out the fun in everyone.
Turn a corner and turn back time. In River Village at Verandah, you’ll find traditional Southern hospitality and all the flavors that go with it. River House and its menagerie of delightful eateries along with Blossom’s nearby are just steps away from Verandah’s most cherished outdoor recreational venues. Launch a kayak at Boat House, prepare for the fairways at Golf House, work out or play tennis. And since time is plentiful here, spend an afternoon venturing down the nature trails to quiet parks and scenic open spaces.
At Verandah, boaters enjoy the convenience of Sweetwater Landing, a public marina in Fort Myers with deepwater boat access only minutes away from the Intracoastal Waterway. It can accommodate wet storage boats up to 100 feet and dry storage for craft up to 30 feet. All boat slips at Sweetwater Landing have connections for electricity, water, television and phone.
Should you have to leave your Verandah haven, you'll find what you're looking for just moments away. The Shops at Verandah offer all life's daily conveniences, such as a Publix® grocery store; Florida's most formidable grocer, as well as banking, fuel stations, etc. The Southwest Florida International airport is close enough, yet far enough south on I-75. And everyone treks to the beaches, just a short 20 minute drive west toward the amazing sunsets. You'll come home in a hurry though, to enjoy the life you've made here. Thomas Edison and Henry Ford made their life here, too.
The city we know as Fort Myers was one of the first bases of operations built in Florida during the Seminole Indian War. Named after one of the campaign's commanding officers, Colonel Abraham C. Myers, it became one of the largest towns on Florida's southern Gulf Coast. The area's beauty and favorable climate drew settlers of all walks of life, including famous entrepreneurs like inventor Thomas Alva Edison. One of Fort Myers' most famous citizens, Edison loved the area so much that he built Seminole Lodge, his home and laboratory, on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River. The majestic royal palms that now line McGregor Boulevard owe their location in part to Edison, who helped import them. Edison's close friend, industrialist Henry Ford, became a frequent winter visitor and ultimately opened the first Ford car dealership in Fort Myers in 1914.
The historic downtown area, called the River District, reflects some of its 19th century past combined with 21st century dining, entertainment and recreational venues. Sidewalk cafés, gourmet restaurants, charming boutiques and galleries line the streets. Grand performing arts halls and theaters draw regional, national and international productions. And every spring, the Boston Red Sox train at the new Jet Blue Park to the delight of baseball fans. It is truly a desirable destination for visitors and residents alike.
'We love the commitment to green building at Verandah. With all the stands of oak trees and naturally landscaped areas, it feels like the best of country living. Jogging through the preserves, you get a real sense the community has been designed around what's best for nature.'
