New Harbor house description
Sunny and bright, loads of light! Come and enjoy our clean, comfortable home away from home!
Our cedar-shaked, one-floor home welcomes you with vibrant flowerboxes and several flower beds on an acre in beautiful Maine. The two bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with twin beds) are complimented by the large sunny family room (with two queen futons) which leads to a private flagstone patio through French doors. The queen sofa bed in the living room is also available for sleeping. There is one full bathroom with bathtub; the shower has great water pressure to wash away your beach day's sand! Washer/dryer on are on site; there is an outdoor clothesline for drying beach towels and suits.
The home is well-suited for gatherings of your family and friends--settle by the indoor fireplace or relax around the outdoor fire pit for an evening campfire. The open-concept, fully equipped kitchen with bay window and the dining area are easily accessible to the large sunny deck via sliders and doors. The gently sloping lawn supports a large area for children to play safely nearby. Our large library of books allows you to read and relax whether you are out on the deck, down at the Point, or sitting on the beach! Our collection of DownEast magazines may help you plan your Maine adventures and excursions during your stay.
Famous Pemaquid Point Lighthouse lies just south down the road (2.5 miles) and the white sands of Pemaquid Beach are 1 mile east. We are located in the village of New Harbor with a quaint, fully-stocked grocery store, gas station, hardware/fishing gear store, ice cream stand, Maine artists' galleries & craft shops, and a bank/ATM all within walking distance from the house. New Harbor is central to all Midcoast Maine cities and towns--Freeport to Camden are within an hour of travel time. The twin cities of Damariscotta/Newcastle are the closest "big" towns to our home.
Water sports (kayaking/canoeing, sailing, swimming (ocean, lake, river swimming "hole"), fine restaurants, birding, Hardy Boat Tours (including Monhegan Island and the Maine coast), hiking, shopping/antiquing are all within several miles of our home. The Botanical Gardens in Boothbay are a must see! For children, there are many activities: beach fun, tide pool explorations, hands-on activities at the local Colonial Pemaquid Museum and the Boothbay Harbor Aquarium to name a few.

My time in here is always fun. It is quiet and relaxing, it's like time stops, there is nothing to worry about. There is plenty to do no matter what you are interested in. I would recommend this house to anyone who is interested in spending some time in Maine.

This comphy-cozy Maine home is the perfect place to relax in the sunny gardens or use as a home base to explore all that Maine's mid coast has to offer. A Gem in New Harbor, ME

The exterior is very New England - window flower boxes and all. Inside the rooms are cheery with lots of windows. What's nearby? Visit the lighthouse on rocky outcropping with thunderous, crashing waves. That's why it was built there. Nearby gentle beach with very little wave action, fun for swimming and sunbathing. And my favorite, a family lobster restaurant. It's a short distance for that most delightful of ocean's bounties. A delightful way to spend some vacation time. I have been there on a family vacation and a girls' weekend. Perfect place to stay.

Owner response: Thank you for your review! The beach IS perfect for family fun, nestled in a southwest facing protected cove. The beach slopes gently for both high and low tide water activities. Children and parents love the different programs offered at the Pemaquid Beach Nature Center and the snack bar keeps the 'hungries' away all day or fills in nicely for what you might have left behind when packing your cooler! After your day at the beach, heading out for a family lobster meal overlooking the oldest working harbor on the Maine coast at Shaw's Lobster Wharf in New Harbor, or travelling a bit farther up the coast to enjoy meals at either the Anchor Inn or several "in the rough" lobster pounds all overlooking the Round Pond harbor is a fitting end to a magical summer day!

Why the Owner Chose New Harbor:
My family has been coming to the Damariscotta/Pemaquid region since before my birth. I grew up vacationing at our family's log cabin on nearby Biscay Pond. As an adult, I searched for a long time for my Mainehouse--a home that was slightly off the beaten path, but still close to the many places I loved around the Pemaquid Peninsula.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I treasure both the "perfect summer days" and the quiet moments off-season that I have at my Mainehouse with family and friends. Whether I am reading, working on a quilt, going to an auction, or cooking a lobster meal for others, I am always amazed at the peace I feel in my home in Maine.
