We stayed in this beautiful home for 4 nights. Everything meet my expectations. The home was very well mainatined and appointed. The kitchen is large and has plenty of cooking equipment and utinsels. The home and pool house were very clean and easily accomodated our party of 12 (6 adults and 6 children). Beach access was an easy walk of about a block.

I just took my daughter with her college friends, plus my son from NYC, for a week at Sand Dollar. We LOVED it! The house is exceptionally well-furnished, and very clean and organized. We did not have to go out to get anything but groceries. The house is well-designed so that everyone is spread out and has privacy, but the kitchen could handle 2-3 cooks and the living room/dining room was perfect for our crowd. The beach is absolutely beautiful and only a short walk from the house, and the pool was a great gathering place at the end of the day. Thank you, Katie, for the welcome basket, and for providing us with such a worry-free, clean house - we will definitely be back for another stay!

We had a wonderful time at the Sand Dollar despite unusually rainy weather. Everything one could need was supplied including a wine refrigerator in the kitchen! The bed linens were fantastic (not those ugly sheets one usually finds in a rental), the beds were all comfortable, the rooms spacious, the pool clean and lovely, the back courtyard with its umbrella tables was beautiful and the location so convenient to the beautiful beach. The televisions were flat screen, the dining table easily seats a crowd, and the whole place was so clean! In fact, I resolved to clean my house thoroughly when I returned to my place. All in all we had a wonderful reunion and our beach "cottage" was a delightful surprise!

Exquisite home away from home

I stayed in this home for a week with 9 friends, my year-old son and another year-old girl. I'll try to capture how fabulous this home is, but don't know if I'll be able to do it justice. You have to stay here to really know how incredible it is! The homeowner clearly takes great pride in maintaining her home, as everything was in pristine condition and immaculately clean. She also goes to great lengths to make it not only beautiful, but homey and welcoming. Beyond the furnishings, elegant yet simple and comfortable, 'extra' touches like movies, games and pool accoutrements make it fun and entertaining. The kitchen is extremely well-stocked with anything and everything you could possibly need to cook meals. The layout of the house is well-planned, with adequate room for 10 (or many more, we just happened to have 10) adults to stay comfortably, with large common areas for gathering together and spacious bedrooms for luxurious privacy. Though not "baby-proofed," the furnishings and layout were accommodating for younsters and it was easy to keep them entertained and out of danger. There is even an business in the area that rents baby equipment (high chairs, strollers, cribs, etc.) for reasonable prices. The beds are extremely comfortable, as are the couches, futon and dining area. The appliances are all quite new and in excellent condition. The pool, which we chose to have heated (for a very reasonable fee) for our stay in 60-70 degree weather, was toasty warm and fabulously private, as the lots on either side of the house are currently vacant. You can hear the ocean from the front porch and balcony! The street is quiet and charming... a very safe neighborhood feel, where the people we encountered were quite friendly and welcoming. The two public beach accesses were convenient, easy to find and within comfortable walking distance. The short walk to the beach (Maybe about 3 blocks? Short enough that my toddler made the trek on his own two feet many times.) is lined with sidewalks, well-maintained properties and beautiful vegetation. Clearly, I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay, loved the home and appreciated the thoughtfulness and attentiveness of the owner. She was readily available to answer questions and her "little touches" in the home made it feel incredibly comfortable and welcoming. It is truly a wonderful "home-away-from-home," which I would highly recommend to anyone interested in a vacation in the area.

We had such fabulous time staying at the Sand Dollar for our 'ladies' week'. The owner's attention to detail is evident throughout the house. I was fortunate to have been invited by a lady in my meditation class to this property in Destin. I can't begin to say enough good things about it. I was in the guest house as I have a sleep apnea device and didn't want to potentially bother a room mate. It was quiet and perfect. The accommodations were superlative. T.V.'s in each room, a fabulous kitchen, a open, warm, accommodating eating/living area. Their were 10 of us and the way the property is laid out it was spacious enough we never ran into each other. Close to the beach and convenient for shopping and the grocery store. I would love to go back & hope we can. The lady that owns the home was extremely gracious and kind and very accommodating. Ocean is a short walk away. Beautiful seaside villages for dinner and shopping and great restaurants only 10" away.

My Sand Dollar Retreat

I spent the 1st week of February with friends at your home in Crystal Beach. I felt so relaxed and comfortable thru the entire stay. Your home is immaculate, the pool was warm and inviting and the beach was the beautiful. We felt so creative in that georgeous kitchen and we definately enjoyed the front porch and veranda. The 4 bikes were put to good use and are in good condition as well. The walk to the beach was short and scenic. The pictures on the listing are not an exageration at all !! I will definately recommend your place to friends and family.

The house is amazing! The kitchen is huge (and very organized), the bedrooms were beautiful and the extras made it feel like home. The cabana house was just as nice! Everything in the home was in excellent condition, nothing made it feel like a rental! We had a family of 14 adults and 1 child- there was room for everyone, yet plenty of space to spread out. The backyard was so much fun! The homeowner, Katie, has literally thought of everything! We got a lot of use out of the wagon and beach cart. The hammock was also a huge hit! The privacy with the 2 open lots next to the home made it very unique among the other homes in the area. Katie is an absolute sweetheart and was so welcoming during our stay! You are immediately welcomed with a basket of goodies. We visited Destin for my wedding and Katie was even thoughtful and kind enough to bring a cheese+fruit tray along with champagne! People like her are one of a kind- the same for the house! My family told me over and over again how perfect and beautiful the home was. I spent weeks searching for the right home, and was in contact with various homeowners. I assure you- I found the best home in Destin! The walk to the beach is less than a few minutes and there is so much to do within minutes of the home! The pictures are very accurate, but do not begin to give the home justice! It is even nicer and roomier in person. I really took into consideration all the other reviews, and upon arriving I instantly knew how the previous renters felt. There is no place I would rather stay when visiting Destin! Katie is an absolute pleasure to work with, and even kept in contact with me during my travel down there. My family and I hope to visit Katie and the Sand Dollar again next year... if we can be so lucky! Thank you Katie, from all of us!

Katie...thank you for letting us stay here. The house is immaculate and the location is perfect. We loved being able to use both the pool and a short walk to the beach. Plus being able to walk to Barnes and Noble, the Outback and if we wanted...the Destin Commons made it the perfect house and location. We will be back next year.

We rented this home for my daughter's 8/12 small, family wedding. I am extremely picky regarding home rentals and cleanliness. My ?/concerns regarding this were 'seemingly' put at ease by conversations w/ home's owner.. When we arrived at the house, was I astonished!! The slipcovers on the downstairs furniture were filthy! The walls leading to the upstairs (and wall in DR were smeared with orange stuff (cheetos?) and black fingerprints, the netting around bed in MB was gray with dirt, throw pillows in various rooms were disgusting. The area and smaller rugs were dirty/stained & the dusting of entire home left much to be desired. The bathroom rugs were dirty and there were not enough towels for family of seven in main house. The comforters on three guest bedrooms needed laundering-smelly. The pool house was filthy. Floors smelled needed a thorough mopping not just a 'once over', food and dirt under all furniture and dark handprints on all the walls. Also not enough towels in the pool house. I was so angry with these finding that I immediately called the owner! She was out of town for the weekend and was rude regarding our concerns. When I asked her how she was going to make the situation better, she cooly suggested we move to a different house and gave us a phone # of some other rental place. We frantically checked out two other homes to no avail-- too small. Still furious I placed several calls to Sand Dollar's owner--voice mail!!. Finally when reached, she said she was sending her mother and friend over to address our issues. The Mother was just about as rude as the owner when we expressed our dissappointment in the cleanliness of the home. The male 'friend' was very pleasant and wanted to make situation better--I think he thought the Mom's reaction was uncalled for too!! The slipcovers on the white furniture were replaced with a clean, but stained, replacements. The gross rugs by front door were replaced, they took down the netting in MB, took stained and stinky throw pillows with them- was about all they decided they could do. We had to stay in the house due to impossibility of finding another on such short notice. The entire family spent a good part of the evening scrubbing walls, washing comforters/rugs and wiping/dusting surfaces in the main house & pool house. Not a pleasant 1st day! Another thing to keep in mind, the beach can be walked to (good walk) - the beach entry areas close to house are all PRIVATE! Couldn't use beach - had to walk more

Owner response:welcome all feedback, positive or negative and truly believe in honest feedback to assist future travelers. I am sorry these guests were not satisfied with the accommodations or the response level I provided as an owner. Within 30 minutes of receiving a phone call from the guests, I sent two people over to go through the house and address all areas of concern, with sincerest apologies. I offered a complete refund if they found our remedies to still be unsatisfactory. However, it became clear in very short order that pleasing them would be an impossibility without refurnishing the entire home. "Sand Dollar" normally far exceeds the expectations of most travelers and I invite you to read the guest comments from families over the past 7 years. **The access to the beach that this guest refers to is at two locations less than a block away, and are NOT private access areas, but rather City of Destin public access points.

We had a party of 12 stay for a week in the Sand Dollar, 6 kids and 6 adults. The main house and guest house accommodated our group with ease. Everything we needed was available in the house, or Katie provided it immediately. The house and property were immaculate. Pride in ownership shows everywhere in this home. We booked this property to celebrate a family member's B-Day week and everyone in our group had a fabulous time. Absolute Perfection

I really can't say enough about this home. We have been to Destin many, many times and have stayed in some really nice homes, but none compare to this one. It really is a beautiful home and is absolutely equipped with anything and everything you will need for your stay. The pool is very nice and really good sized compared to other homes we have stayed in. The home is literally a five minute walk to the beach. The owner lives nearby and responded very quickly when needed but otherwise left us alone. All in all, this is the nicest home we have stayed in in Destin. Choose the Sand Dollar, you will love it.

We brought 5 small families together and just fell in love with this house. I lucked out and got the deluxe master suite with the whirlpool tub, I really did NOT want to leave to come home. Katie is the sweetest, kindest rental owner I've met and made the organization of a 5 family vacation a breeze. We loved the basket of goodies, the leftovers made it to my home in NC where they were promptly finished! We only wish the ocean wouldn't have been filled with seaweed soup, it made for a very dirty ocean swim! But, luckily with the pool we got plenty of cooling off time!

The 'Real Vacation' at the "Sand Dollar" !

Our family stayed there 07/10/10-07/24/10 and this is the most 'first class' property we have stayed in for the last ten years we have been coming to Crystal Beach-Destin. The amenities are second to none and the property is meticulously maintained. Ms. Atwater personally came by and introduced herself and made us feel we were staying at our own home. All necessary shopping is within minutes and the beach is three minutes away. Under the circumstances, the 'white' beach sand was crystal clean!

What an Awesome Beach House

Our large family , including three daughters and son-in-laws, their children [5] altogether ,my husband and I and my mom stayed in this beautiful home for a week in June. We had an absolutely wonderful time.The house was very clean, and the kitchen was amazingly organized! It was perfect. It was very beachy the furniture was lovely, but not to the point where I was afraid to let the children sit down!! I spent weeks on-line looking for a beach house for us and we found the perfect one!! The guest house worked wonderful for one of our daughters and their children. Having all of the extras their such as beach toys, beach chairs, bikes and the wagon for the little ones to go to the beach was HUGE!! We had the pleasure of meeting Katie when we arrived and not only did she make us feel very welcome,but had also left a gorgeous basket of snacks for us,which we totally enjoyed at the pool before we made it to the grocery!!! The distance too the beach was not far at all! We drove my mom who is 85 to the pavilion at the end of the street and she was able to walk down to the beach from there!! One of the most fun things we did [ other than just goo to the gorgeous beach] was to go out on the SEA BLASTER!! What a fun boat ride We ALL went , we snorkeled and saw lots of dolphins. Would definitely recommend it. It was a Blast!!! Thanks Katie for a great week!!

Sand Daollar and Destin Unbeatable Combination

The house was everything we expected and more! The kitchen was great for meal preparations for our large family. Close enough to the beach to visit more than once a day, plus the pool provided everyone with plenty of water fun all week. What a beautiful house! We stayed at the Sand Dollar over Spring Break and this was our fourth experience staying in a rental house in Crystal Beach. The Sand Dollar was everything that we anticipated and more. We had nine adults, one teeager and three children and there was plenty of room for everyone. We take a family vacation every two years. The Sand Dollar was the very best house we have ever stayed in! It is well equipped. The bedrooms were wonderful. They were so large and it was great for families! I appreciated how clean it was. The pool area was the spot we used the most. The grandchildren loved having a pool all to themselves. We celebrated our parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary. Families from 4 states traveled to the Sand Dollar. The house and ammenities are extraordinary - it was PERFECT for our crew. With 10 adults and 2 kids everyone had their own space. The kitchen is a dream and the common areas are quite comfortable. Everyone wants to make this an annual trip!!! The biggest decision we had to make all week was whether we wanted to stay at the beach or go to the pool. We loved the privacy of the backyard, too. Katie, thanks for your help with all our plans - you are a sweetheart!

The house was great lots of room in the kitchen which was well stocked with all the equipment and utensils you will need. The pool was not so great the filter did not work well and it had alot of debris in it throughout the week. The guest house was small but nice for one or two people.

Katie - Thank you so much for sharing your home with my family of 10 the week of July 4th. You have a beautiful home & so accomodating with EVERYTHING that you could possibly need & many many extras! There is so much room for a large family which made it that much better; we were never ever crowded anywhere in the home AND the dining room table was fantastic when we all sat down to eat! The pool was perfect & having it heated made it that much better (for me anyway). We enjoyed coffee on the balcony in the mornings (very quite area). Katie and Andrew: Our family of 12 had a wonderful vacation at your home. It had everything we needed at our fingertips. The "Sand Dollar" is beautifully decorated, spacious and so organized. Thank you for allowing us to vacation there, we will be back again. We all loved the secluded pool area and the fence surrounding the back yard because we never had to worry about the kids getting away from us except when the ice cream truck came around which my grandchildren had never experienced. They thought that was the absolute best. It was a fabulous week. Thank you both again, you have thought of everything to make it the perfect vacation place.

Wow, what an absolute fabulous house! For a party of eleven, it met all of our needs and then some. We have now been to Destin four times and this home was in the best shape of all the rentals we have had. The kitchen was spacious for all to help with dinner, and the two master suites were a bonus! The home really does look like a picture out of the pottery barn magazine. And the best thing of all it is completely kid friendly. We had four under the age of six and felt very safe with the pool alarm system and door codes. I hope that we are able to stay in this lovely home next year!

This house was everything we wanted in a vacation home and more. Katie seemed to think of everything! It was all there for us. I especially loved the wagons (really it was my daughter!). We would take a lovely wagon stroll to the beach every morning. The pool was excellent; a great size for everyone to get in and enjoy. The kitchen is AWESOME!! We had four small children and parents trying to attend to them and getting around the kitchen was amazing. LOVED IT!! The lay out of this home is outstanding. It is so incredibly spacious and neat as a pin. I would recommend this home to anyone and would definately vacation there again.

This home is immaculately decorated and maintained. It is spacious and comfortable. The owners have expended great effort to provide for guests' needs and comfort. The backyard pool is private and beautiful and the kitchen is anyone's dream!!!

What a wonderful week! This house has everything you need for a worry-free vacation. It's very nicely decorated and spaced out. It's an easy walk to the beach (and the house has wagons to help tote your stuff or kids!) and the pool is also great to relax in. The grocery store, mall and lots of restaurants are all within a 5 minute drive. We had a great time and would love to come back!

We love the Sand Dollar! What a wonderful home to visit. We took our extended family...12 of us, and we were never crowded. The kitchen is so well equipped...we cooked several nights and could not even THINK of anything that was not in that kitchen. The pool was wonderful, very clean and large enough for our group. Thank you so much for allowing us to visit with you, Katie and Andrew. WE PLAN TO BE BACK!!!!

I feel a little like the fisherman who was asked, "Where did you catch all of those nice fish?" Do you tell where you actually caught them? This was the type of vacation we had at the Sand Dollar. We enjoyed it so much,we wondered if it was good to tell, but others should be able to enjoy it as well. So... This rental has the perfect blend of privacy and proximity. You are just enough off the beaten path being on a quiet street and having wooded lots on both sides of the house. You are half a block from a wonderful beach and you are half a block from malls and shops of every kind. The house is even better than pictured (which is rare). Staying there had a little of everything in just the right amount. We have been to Ocean Springs, MS, and Fort Morgan, AL the last two years and felt like Destin had the best variety though I bet it is crowed during the summer. Katie was very accomodating, responsive, and good to work with. The Sand Doller was just what we needed this year.

Thank you for a wonderful vacation. The house is beautiful and you have provided everything one would need for an fabulous vacation. My family couldn't not have asked for a better vacation home..from the pool, to the short walk to the beach to the stocked kitchen to the beautiful house...perfect. Would recommend to anyone.

We all had one of the greatest times of our lives here at the Sand Dollar! The house is absolutely gorgeous! We were out by the pool so much. It was always warm and so perfect for everyone of all ages. The beach was also a blast. We also went to the outlet malls and to the go-karts. The shower outside was very helpful after we came back from the beach. The kitchen is so great and so big! We loved all the decorating.

Andrew & Katie - Today is check out day :-( We have had a wonderful vacation in your absolutely wonderful home. The week flew by! There was very little that you haven't thought of. I would love to have this kitchen & everything that you have in it! (Being as that is where I spend most of my time) The Pottery Barn decorations were beautiful Thank you for thinking of all the extras (wagons, beach chairs, hammock, games, movies, books, extra supplies, etc) House was awesome!

Had an absolutely wonderful time, it was so relaxing just what we needed the Sand Dollar is a comfortable home with lots of privacy and shopping close by. Would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to sleep late (the beds are so comfortable) to wake up and have coffee and breakfast by the pool, go for a walk by the beach, only to come back and relax and swim in the lovely pool.

The Crystal Beach is the nicest vacation haven that I have ever frequented. The house itself is absolutely gorgeous inside and yet very livable. We went with 8 people but could have easily had 8 more. The pool is terrific, the guest house is fantastic and the beach is a half a block away. If you are going to this beach, STAY HERE. Katie was great to work and was very accomodating to our busy schedules. See you again Crystal Beach.
