Porte de Grave house description
This is an ocean front cottage, situated in a rare active fishing village which was established over 450 years ago. This property is only feet away from the ocean's edge and only a 50min drive from the capital city of St. John's, Newfoundland and the international airport. With a breath taking view and all the amenities, this vacation home will give you a getaway that keeps calling you back.
This home offers all the comforts of home with a full kitchen, dining area, a living room with a view of the marina and bay that can't be beat, two bedrooms and a full bathroom. The master bedroom contains a queen size bed with an amazing view. The view from this room is so amazing you could even relax in bed with your special someone while watching whales play and feed while the sun is rising. Where else can you do that.
Why not walk out the patio doors of the master bedroom to the calming effects of the hot tub with your special someone, family or friends. While there watch for whales, listen to the ocean waves or just enjoy each others company.
During the day why not go for a 2-4 minute walk to the marina and talk with some of the friendly fishermen. They might just give you some of the freshest sea food you can get, for that meal later on. Maybe start up the bbq on the large patio or just take in the beauty that's all around you.
We are associated with a diving and adventure company which will meet your adventure needs upon request. You also have the opportunity to go for a sail on a 40 foot sailing catamaran( at an additional cost), the only sailing catamaran in Newfoundland if you so desire.
Bay Roberts is only 6min away and contains all of your requirements with chiropractors/doctors/ massage therapists/dentists, shopping, movies, fast food, gas, grocery stores and so much more.
Once you stay here, you'll long to come back!

Had never rented a house on vacation before and had a wonderful time!
Had never rented a house on vacation before and had a wonderful time!
After finding the property on VRBO we contacted Don and he responded very quickly. Anytime we needed to ask him questions he was readily available. The house is right on the water and although the weather didn`t co-operate to sit outside, we were able to see whales from the massive picture window in the living room facing the water. My husband did use the hot tub on the deck and saw whales while sitting there. The property is situated in a little fishing village and the views are spectacular! As I said we had never rented a house before but found it very relaxing and were able to cook some meals, have breakfast, etc. at our leisure. It was also cheaper than a lot of the hotels we looked at!! Would definitely recommend this property. Don was also very helpful with things to see and left brochures for us to choose some local restaurants, etc.

The stay was very memorable with a beautifully relaxing atmosphere and amazing views. The sunrise in the morning is indeed wonderful and the hot tub at night was, well fabulous. While we were eating breakfast we also watched the boats coming and going, very nice. Walking around the community was also a great experience with some of the friendliest people I have ever meet. The convience of Bay Roberts being only 5-10 mins away was great, if you needed anything, they had it. We also went into Carbonear which is only 15-20 min away and did some shopping. The history is incredible, this whole area was actually run wild with pirates back in 1620's and running into the 1800's, with the most famous pirate being Peter Easton, Amelia Earhart also landed Harbour Grace about 10 min away. I could keep talking, the stay was wonderful. I will be coming back. Thanks Don

About the owner: I am Doctor in the St. John's area and have been in practice for over 10 years. I aquired my B.Sc, in Biochemistry in 1996 at Memorial University of Newfoundland and then went on to kansas City for another 4 years to acheive the Doctor of Chiropractic. I am an international speaker, providing presentations in Canada, USA and the Dominican Republic. I am a firm believer in fitness, healthy eating and remaining healthy so you can do the things you enjoy. Myself and my family love the ocean, we dive, snorkel, waterski on the bay, explore islands looking for pirate treasure(this is totally for my 3 kids, ok maybe a bit for me) and we love to sail all summer long visiting different areas and experiencing life on the ocean. I have sailed from Miami up to Newfoundland on my present sailng catamaran and just fall more in love with the ocean each time we are on it. Both the good times when the sea is calm and the bad times when the sea is rough.
Why the Owner Chose Porte de Grave:
One day we sailed into Porte de Grave Marina and fell in love with the place, its history, the views, the friendliness of the people. We just had to find something here in this unique place. It had to be next to the ocean, a short walk from the marina and have a view which was outstanding. A few months later we found the spot with such a traquil view, a peaceful feeling, and only a 2 min walk from the marina, we had to have it. So here we are trying to share this piece of paradise with you.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
While staying at this property you will have the opportunity to visit a fishermans museum which brings you back to the early days. You also have the opportunity to sail on a large sailing catamaran if you so desire. Landing on isolated beaches and maybe even having a bbq or jigging cod when in season. This adventure would need to be requested with 4 weeks notice otherwise this may not be possible. There are other activities such as kayaking, or going through an ocean cave in a zodiac, these would also need to be requested with at least 4 weeks notice, otherwise this may not be possible. Rates and access depends on dates requested.
