We (two adults, four kids under 10) had an almost two-week stay, and found it very hard to leave! The location is so convenient - either for walking to downtown Lake Oswego or for a quick drive into Portland. It's in a quiet section of a beautiful and walk-able neighborhood, with a park-like yard of its own. The house was spotlessly clean and charmingly decorated. The kitchen was stocked with every utensil we needed and all the staples you don't want to have to purchase for a short stay. The owners were so helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend the cottage, and hope to return ourselves!

This vacation rental exceeded all of our expectations. Due to the lush surroundings of both the front and back yard, this place feels incredibly private. The only sounds we heard when waking in the morning were birds singing in the trees outside the windows. The wow factor doesn't stop in the yard, this cottage is beautifully decorated with personal touches throughout. An inviting kitchen inspired many family meals, and some quiet wine sipping moments. Our teenager found his own retreat in the upstairs loft area, while our littler ones enjoyed using the art supplies and board games provided. With a playground near by, many parks to choose from, a water feature in the plaza, and the big city just minutes away, there was never a shortage of things to do or see. For restaurant recommendations, we looked to the "house guide", which is a thoughtful introduction to the cottage and surrounding area provided by the owner. Every suggestion we tried from their list of "favorites" was spot on! By the end of our time here, the kids began referring to this place as "our new home". We would definitely stay again.

Great place. Great neighborhood. Great owners. The backyard is like an outdoor retreat! The place is well equipped and the owners have really gone out of their way to think through the eyes of the renters. Lake Oswego is just a great place to stay if you're hanging out in the Portland area.

Wow doesn't begin to describe how comfortable this cottage is! We picked the Labor Day weekend, with its perfect weather, to enjoy this rental and felt from the first moment of arrival that we had lucked into a great spot. The private, beautiful garden, great, well-provisioned kitchen, cozy TV nook, super-comfy master bedroom and the bathroom walk-in shower stocked with yummy products all provided such a great feeling of comfort and welcome. Paula thoughtfully provides not only flowers and fruit in welcome, but well-placed notes to aid your search for kitchen-ware or lighting options. We have stayed in 15 different rentals, in Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Italy, and this one takes the cake for location, charm, and comfort. We were able to use the patio to entertain our sons and guests and they all agreed we should figure out how to live permanently at the 9th Street Cottage! Great area for sightseeing-we enjoyed the Farmer's Market on Saturday, and if you don't go to the St. Honore Bakery nearby you will miss a great pastry experience. Hope to return soon to the area, and another stay here.

My husband and I have been traveling for the past six months, staying in various VRBO homes, and this is the place that felt most like home. We found everything we needed in just the right place. The most wonderful part begins in the large kitchen, preparing a meal, and then walking through the French doors to the incredible back yard patio area. The landscaping is incredible and while we were there, the home was awarded a Platinum rating for being a bird sanctuary. And the location is perfect. We were there for a month and explored the wonderful town of Lake Oswego, great restaurants, Tryon State Park for hikes and runs less than a mile from the house, and driving to Portland on the back road is a treat and takes only 15 minutes. We also headed out to the Columbia River Gorge (45 minute drive) trailheads and south to Silver Falls State Park and saw more waterfalls than we had in a lifetime! Paula and Drew are incredible hosts and the care and details they have taken make this a very special place.

We stayed here with our two small boys (ages 1 and 4) over 4th of July weekend. From the pictures and reviews alone we had high expectations, but these were well surpassed upon arrival. Everywhere we looked there was a helpful note explaining how to use something, or pointing out that something was available for our use and convenience. The first thing we noticed was the huge bowl of organic fruit in the kitchen, and the gorgeous fresh flowers in both the dining room and bedroom. From the picnic blanket and cooler to bring home goodies from the farmer's market; to the pack-n-play, baby bedding, and age-appropriate toys; to the perfect mini collections of DVDs, CDs, and books (both for kids and adults); even down to the sippy cups and plastic dishes for the little one (same ones we have at home!) -- there was absolutely nothing lacking. It felt like the family living in the home had just stepped out for the weekend, not that it was a rental property with just the basic supplies. The house is exquisitely decorated with a mix of contemporary, global, and vintage furnishings and accents, as well as high-end appliances and amenities, and yet the whole place manages to be quite kid friendly. The kids loved walking to the nearby schoolyard every day to play, and the adults loved relaxing by the outdoor fire pit with a glass of wine in the evenings, or watching free on-demand movies on the cozy L-shaped sofa in the living room (complete with soft blankets and pillows). We have stayed at VRBO properties almost exclusively when on vacation since we've had kids. This property has been one of the best experiences. Notably, many properties will have several locked doors and "do not use" indications. This was the opposite experience, and the owners went out of their way to apologize for the slightest inconvenience they perceived (although in truth we were hard pressed to come up with any room for improvement when asked). Overall, the owners are extremely concientious and went out of their way to make sure every detail of our stay was perfect, and personalized to our needs.

Charming, quiet, and relaxing is the best way to describe this spacious cottage.Set in First Addition - Lake Oswego it was in the perfect location and home for our family of seven. Visiting for a week long family reunion, it was just a short stroll away from the lake, shopping and dining. The owners have paid great attention to detail and the gardens are incredible, creating a fairyland for our 5 year old twin daughters. We also marveled and enjoyed the massive Redwood in the front yard. We hope to return again and again ...

The 9th Street Cottage was very accommodating and was in a fantastic central place to explore Lake Oswego, Portland and the Coast. Our trip consisted of 6 adults and one therapy dog....we were very comfortable and the owners put a lot of thought into the house and its amenities. Will definitely stay at the 9th street cottage again!

We were delighted and charmed by this house and yard; both are lovely. The house is well furnished and has the most complete kitchen we've ever found in a rental. There were seven of us with one three year old and there was plenty of room for us all with comfortable beds and space to spread out. The kids were charmed with the goldfish and we adults enjoyed the fresh flowers and daily paper. There is a grocery store nearby in the town of Lake Oswego, and it is convenient to Portland and all it has to offer. We would love to stay there again on another trip to Portland.

We stayed in the 9th Street Cottage for five nights and found it delightful. A very comfortable, welcoming space. The owners clearly put a lot of thoughtful attention into making their guests comfortable, and both the house and the yard are especially pleasant. Our party included two members in their 80s, who also appreciated the accessibility of the bathroom. (We actually live in town, but needed more space for a small family gathering.) The photos give a good feel for the place. We recommend it highly!

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 1995

About the owner: Drew has been involved in different aspects of landscaping for 28 years, while Paula works with special needs students in the local school district. We have enjoyed this home and neighborhood for many years and are now happy to share it with others!

Why the Owner Chose Lake Oswego:
More trees. Safe. Beautiful. This has been a perfect community in which to raise our daughter and enjoy life with family and friends. At the edge of Tryon Creek State Park, we are close to trails and wildlife and are still blocks away from downtown.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
A view of nature out every window with an abundance of birds all around. A walker's neighborhood, friendly and quiet. 1930's cottage with updated kitchen, bath and amenities. Perfect location.
