Accommodations: Estate, 9 Bedrooms + Den, 5 Baths (Sleeps 16-20)
Keywords: Traditional Farm/Finca Estate
Ideal for groups of two up to sixteen people, Finca La Asmoladora, is a magnificent, traditional, old finca estate in the middle of fourteen acres of almond, olive, vine and orange terraces; a stunning property in a spectacular location with panoramic mountain views. It is a haven of rural beauty, peace and quiet close to the unspoiled pueblo of Parcent - "paradise between mountains" - but only 25 minutes easy drive from the renowned beach resorts of Javea, Denia and Moraira.
The finca can accommodate groups from two to sixteen people in Casa Andrago, a superb five bedroom house sleeping eight, and in three charming Casitas, each sleeping either two or four. All the finca’s accommodation is arranged around an attractive stone paved courtyard and walled garden. Casa Andrago is made up of an interconnected Guest House and Tower, each sleeping four, which can be rented separately.
La Asmoladora's Casa and Casitas are all self contained with their own superbly equipped bathrooms and kitchens or kitchenettes. They are all decorated and furnished with fascinating items from the owners art and ancient farm implement collections. They are all available for rent individually or in combination. This allows very flexible accommodation for couples, families or larger groups.
All guests have equal access to the very large pool, barbecue area and tennis court but, as the property is extremely large, over 14 acres - different groups can share the finca and easily maintain their privacy. The finca is an excellent base for combining sea, beach and sporting activities with driving, riding (horses or mountain bikes), walking, biking, climbing or just roaming the surrounding mountains.
The beautiful stone paved courtyard, walled sculpture garden and enormous pool/barbeque terrace are ideal for outdoors eating and drinking. Many groups have used held cocktail parties in courtyard and garden and parties, dinner and dancing well into the night on the pool/barbeque terrace. The nearest neighbours are over 250 yards away so music played well into the night is no problem.
The valleys lined with fruit and almond trees - an endless sea of pink/white blossom in spring - and the unspoiled mountain pueblos are a delight to explore. The produce of the local wineries is well worth sampling - the tiny winery in Parcent supplies the Spanish Royal family. After a quiet glass of wine and a few almonds from the estate while watching the sun set dramatically behind Parcent, there are memorable restaurants of all types to try in the area. The historic cities of Valencia and Alicante are just 75 minutes away. A car is essential. Preferential car rental rates are available to guests from the largest and best regional car rental company.
La Asmoladora is family oriented during the summer months. It is an idyllic, romantic places for couples and small groups the rest of the year. Surrounded by mountains of three sides, it is also an ideal place for all mountain based activities providing excellent accommodation for climbers, walkers and cyclists during the autumn/fall, winter and spring. Magnificent Old Finca - Villa & Three Casitas for 2-16 People
Year Purchased: 1999
Why the Owner Chose Alicante
The finca is easy to get to. Alicante and Valencia both have an international airport and are less then 90 minutes drive - mostly by motorway/interstate - from the finca. The climate in the area is exceptional. It is hot in the summer, but unlike Andalucia, it is never too hot. At other times of year it is warm and pleasant during the day but cool in the evenings. Almond blossom time is the most beautiful time of year and attracts visitors from all over the world. The famous "Fallas" festival in Valencia - 90 minutes from the finca - held in March is the most spectacular carnival held anywhere in the world. Valencia also hosts the Americas Cup, has an annual Formula 1 Grand Prix, claims to have the Holy Grail in its cathedral and has an architecturally sensational Arts and Science complex, which includes a new opera house in the shape of fish as well of a world class aquarium.
Owner's Map of Alicante
We are British and Canadian but have had a home in this beautiful part of Spain for over 30 years. For ten years Derek was Chairman of a Spanish company involved in agriculture in Spain – so we know all parts of Spain well. When we retired from international business ten years ago, we searched for large old finca estate to use as our Spanish home part of the year. We found Finca La Asmoladora at the mountain end of the beautiful Jalon valley. It was Valentine’s Day when we found it and all its hundreds of almond trees were covered in incredible pink and white blossom - the finca looked idyllic. We fell in love with its charm, its fascinating history which dates back to Roman times, its terraces of almonds, oranges and olives, its spectacular location with mountains on three sides and its perfect peace and tranquillity. We run the finca as a hobby – life style business all year and are immensely proud of it.

After a year of global travel, surprise and delight are all in a days work. La Asmoladora proved to be the exception to the rule, however. A slice of paradise and a haven from the excesses of the coast. Pam and Derek are fabulous hosts, offering hospitality, experience and advice above and beyond the call of duty. We have had a fabulous week here and will spread the good news wherever we go.
