We stayed at Casuarina house from June 30th through July 6th, 2013. Amazing beachfront location. The property is huge. There are no neighbors to the right or to the left of the home. The whole beach was ours ! We saw one person running along the beach on only one morning of our 7 day stay. The cable tv works great with numerous channel selection. The A/C works great. The home is not fancy but it is well cared for and was very clean with everything that we needed. It has been our 5th vacation to Exuma and the location of this home has beat the other rentals by far. We really loved the home and the location. It is a great vacation rental, we loved it !

Just returned from a week in Exuma. Casuarina House is exactly as described and the views are even better. Very private with about 2 miles of beautiful beach to yourselves! We only saw a few people the entire week! I absolutely recommend this house to couples or small families - perfect for both. Very convenient to Georgetown. While directly on the beach, the "yard" is very shaded by the Casuarina trees. There are plenty of outdoor chairs and a wrap around porch. We enjoyed watching the resident hummingbirds each morning.

Amazing Week! PERFECT location!
Amazing Week! PERFECT location!
Just spent the week at Casuarina House. You literally could not ask for a better location. I don't see why you would go to a place like Exuma and not stay right on the most beautiful water you will ever see. The beach Casuarina sits on is secluded for the most part, long enough for morning and evening walks, has a little bit of snorkeling right out front and is 10 steps from the house. There are NO rocks. We have two children, ages 5 and 8, and they just flew right into the water and played in the sand for hours. The house is very comfortable and beds are great. Couch is a fold out if you need it. Internet works great and was never down. Cable TV and electricity never went out even in a horrible storm! Tons of dishes and towels and the washer and dryer (you will need to buy some detergent) worked good. The house does not have a blender, which would have been nice for beach side drinks. We rented a boat at Mimm's and car at Thompson's. There is a comment book at the house with entries by over 50 families that is such an amazing resource which details directions to nearby beaches and places to eat. Bring bug spray, not only for the house, but the entire island. We would definitely recommend this house and location with no reservations! Enjoy!

My wife and I just returned from a week at Casuarina House on Great Exuma, where we visited about 25 years ago ( and to our surprise, the very same house). We joked about the improvements made since our other stay (central A/C, electricity without a generator, new furnishings, etc), but relished the same spectacular view and expansive, virtually private beach just steps from the front porch. The caretaker, Norman, was most attentive and even provided some groceries since our arrival was after grocery stores closed for the day (close at noon on Sundays). For those seeking high end pampering, the Sandals resort a few miles north might be better. But if you want to relax, do what you want when you want, and enjoy a beach you could call your own, Casuarina House is a dream come true. While a few earlier reviewers reported issues with no-see-ums, we had no such problem, maybe thanks to the prevailing sea breeze we enjoyed all week. We will always cherish our 2 stays at Casuarina House, and just maybe will be back for a 3rd time. Ashley made the rental process simple, and was a great source of recommendations. We rented a car from Thompson's and a boat from Minn's and would likewise recommend both. Another suggestion is to make sure you trek on down to Little Exuma to eat at Santana's and pick up a rum cake next door at Mom's. This house, and this island, may not be for everyone. Thrill seekers, people who need around the clock activity, and those who can't slow down their lives could be disappointed. For everyone else, you will not regret your visit.

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!!
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!!
My husband and I found the perfect get-a-away at Casaurina House! The house was absolutely the perfect place for a quiet romantic vacation. The house was charming and welcoming...we both felt like we were home. My favorite place was sitting on the wrap-around porch, watching the ocean, drinking my morning coffee, and listening to the sound of the waves. The beach was very private. We only saw 1 or 2 other people and most days we were all alone! The people on the island were VERY friendly and the house was located just far enough from Georgetown for peace and quiet, but also within easy access of restaurants and shops. We both can't wait to go back! Casaurina House is the best kept secret on Great Exuma! I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for the perfect Bahama vacation!!! Thank you for making our trip so wonderful!

A wonderful spot
A wonderful spot
We just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at Casuarina House, and it was everything we hoped it would be. Rathr than repeat all the glowing reports, I'll just confirm that they're accurate. Here are a few more: BIKES: My husband was delighted to discover 2 serviceable (not fancy) bikes in the shed. Being Dutch, he's convinced biking is THE way to get around. He pumped up the tires, oiled the chain (oil and pump in shed) and explored most of the island- he was able to travel on little side roads through many of the settlements, and spoke to lots of local residents, had food and drink in roadside stands, and was able to appreciate both the culture and perspectives of the local population. COCONUTS: The yard is full of coconut palms, and we ate fresh coconuts every day. The coconut water made into ice cubes was a nice addition to evening drinks, too! PORCH: the totally wrap-around porch was a huge plus. One could always find either shade or sun, whichever is your preference. MASTER BEDROOM: Really comfortable beds. Sleep with the sliding door open (screen closed) and listen to the ocean all night, then wake to see that gorgeous turquoise water from the bed - amazing. BUGS: we didn't find them bad at all, but we're used to the "friendly, in-your-face" black flies of Cape Breton. We had a steady breeze, which probably helped. There were only a few at dawn and dusk, and a little spritz of bug dope solved the problem. Some people are more attractive than others, though - we didn't use any spray, and I had only 1 bite, but my son-in-law had quite a few. So, just be prepared, but not scared. The house is very comfortable and has pretty well anything you might want. The location is ideal, and the beach is beyond wonderful. Georgetown is a little village, but has everything you need. Some things are expensive, but vacation isn't really the time to pinch pennies on a loaf of bread. For some reason, cheese is much cheaper than here. Go figure. In short, it's a pretty perfect place to spend a memorable vacation. We met the owners and rental agent, and spoke to the caretaker - all of whom were friendly, helpful and obliging.

Wonderful Beach House!
Wonderful Beach House!
We really loved our stay at Casuarina House. I know there's one bad review on here, but I have no idea what they were talking about. I thought the house was remarkably clean and well furnished. The beds were comfy and clean, nice living room and dining room, and best of all a giant wrap-around porch! The beach was gorgeous and totally deserted. The only reason I give it 4 rather than 5 stars were the sand flies/midges/fleas (also called no-see-ums). I've heard different names for these biting insects, but we did get eaten alive by them at the house, especially around dusk while we were grilling. These are not typical mid-west no-see-ums either. Their bites itch like crazy--much worse than mosquitos. Mine were so bad that I had to get benadryl cream to stop the itch, and I had almost 50 bites on my legs. We learned to cover ourselves with deet bug spray, but even that didn't completely stop them. It made the last few days of our trip much less enjoyable, so if you go, make sure you bring bug spray and don't stay out around dusk too much. But other than that, the house was gorgeous and perfectly located. The locals were warm and friendly, and the food we had on the island was a real treat.

Greatly enjoyed our time there once we got there. Very reasonable price for practically private beach. Owner and manager very accommodating. The beach and water is safe for young children. I swam and snorkeled out to small local reef and nearby island, barely perceptible currents during tide changes. Things we wished we knew: Suggest bring bulk dry foods, bread, and snacks only and keep it simple, water containing foods and especially drinks and canned foods are too heavy and you will be charged for extra weight on suitcase anyway ( which we found out 50 and 75 dollars), hard alcohol is same price as States , wine and beer more expensive. -meat is crazy expensive, try to get local fish or go fishing yourself. -international weight limit of suitcase is 50 pounds then drops to 40 pounds when you take bahama domestic flight transferring flight. -House has a lot of snorkeling fins of various sizes but only two little kid masks, need to bring own mask and snorkel-- leave fins at home, too big and heavy -Georgetown is tiny, You can see it all walking in about 2 hours. Don't expect nightlife. Try to plan activities on first day for rest of week, very difficult to get any last minute or spontaneous activities scheduled. -and even though lots of websites say children only need birth certificate to enter States and Bahamas, you absolutely need a passport to fly there and back no matter if child is 1 day,1 month old or 1 year old. -Small little collection of books on site, bring one to leave there or/and trade. -all the stereotypes of locals are true. - nice new butcher shop close by sells rotisserie chickens that are delicious, and the red meat ( have I said this already) is crazy expensive, you might want to sneak some hotdogs in. ( officially not allowed, but watched customs for 2 hours waiting on wife to arrive and maybe one or two bags were checked. My two huge bags were not checked even though I was a guy traveling by myself at time and I didn't even use a porter. - they say, use a porter to get through customs unmolested -The locals hate Sandals and will appreciate you for not using them. Say something about how you like to travel locally and not use big corporate travel companies and they will love you but be prepared for long vitriol about sandals. If you ask the price in advance for taxi trip, prices are about the same, if you get in without asking, price will go up. Its cheaper to go to house then to goback to airport. Im just sayin thats all

Just what the Dr. Ordered
Just what the Dr. Ordered
I booked a last minute trip to get away and get some sun in December and was looking for a place to stay outside of a resort. The casurina house delivered on all expectations. Ashley was super friendly and accommodating to meet our needs last minute. As anywhere in the outer islands, the sand, water, atmosphere is second to none – to have a quaint little place that is so easily assessable yet gives you the feeling you are on your own private beach … well look no further. I went for a run down the beach one morning and the next closest house is about 1Km away and only saw one other couple in the 5 miles. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, very quiet, quaint getaway yet close enough to bars, food etc. this is it. I will def return very soon. Only advice I would give is to bring food from home if you can as daily groceries on any remote island are very expensive.

Perfect Beach, Perfect House
Perfect Beach, Perfect House
This is the perfect little beach house on a perfect secluded beach. The owner and property manager were very understanding and accomodating for our late arrival due to Hurricane Isaac. They provided some basics for us because the stores would be closed when we arrived late due to the storm. Nothing fancy here, but a great beach vacation. The house has all the necessities. We highly recommend the Casuarina House for a secluded beach vacation, and hope to return again.
