My husband and I found the perfect get-a-away at Casaurina House! The house was absolutely the perfect place for a quiet romantic vacation. The house was charming and welcoming...we both felt like we were home. My favorite place was sitting on the wrap-around porch, watching the ocean, drinking my morning coffee, and listening to the sound of the waves. The beach was very private. We only saw 1 or 2 other people and most days we were all alone! The people on the island were VERY friendly and the house was located just far enough from Georgetown for peace and quiet, but also within easy access of restaurants and shops. We both can't wait to go back! Casaurina House is the best kept secret on Great Exuma! I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for the perfect Bahama vacation!!! Thank you for making our trip so wonderful!

We just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at Casuarina House, and it was everything we hoped it would be. Rathr than repeat all the glowing reports, I'll just confirm that they're accurate. Here are a few more: BIKES: My husband was delighted to discover 2 serviceable (not fancy) bikes in the shed. Being Dutch, he's convinced biking is THE way to get around. He pumped up the tires, oiled the chain (oil and pump in shed) and explored most of the island- he was able to travel on little side roads through many of the settlements, and spoke to lots of local residents, had food and drink in roadside stands, and was able to appreciate both the culture and perspectives of the local population. COCONUTS: The yard is full of coconut palms, and we ate fresh coconuts every day. The coconut water made into ice cubes was a nice addition to evening drinks, too! PORCH: the totally wrap-around porch was a huge plus. One could always find either shade or sun, whichever is your preference. MASTER BEDROOM: Really comfortable beds. Sleep with the sliding door open (screen closed) and listen to the ocean all night, then wake to see that gorgeous turquoise water from the bed - amazing. BUGS: we didn't find them bad at all, but we're used to the "friendly, in-your-face" black flies of Cape Breton. We had a steady breeze, which probably helped. There were only a few at dawn and dusk, and a little spritz of bug dope solved the problem. Some people are more attractive than others, though - we didn't use any spray, and I had only 1 bite, but my son-in-law had quite a few. So, just be prepared, but not scared. The house is very comfortable and has pretty well anything you might want. The location is ideal, and the beach is beyond wonderful. Georgetown is a little village, but has everything you need. Some things are expensive, but vacation isn't really the time to pinch pennies on a loaf of bread. For some reason, cheese is much cheaper than here. Go figure. In short, it's a pretty perfect place to spend a memorable vacation. We met the owners and rental agent, and spoke to the caretaker - all of whom were friendly, helpful and obliging.

We really loved our stay at Casuarina House. I know there's one bad review on here, but I have no idea what they were talking about. I thought the house was remarkably clean and well furnished. The beds were comfy and clean, nice living room and dining room, and best of all a giant wrap-around porch! The beach was gorgeous and totally deserted. The only reason I give it 4 rather than 5 stars were the sand flies/midges/fleas (also called no-see-ums). I've heard different names for these biting insects, but we did get eaten alive by them at the house, especially around dusk while we were grilling. These are not typical mid-west no-see-ums either. Their bites itch like crazy--much worse than mosquitos. Mine were so bad that I had to get benadryl cream to stop the itch, and I had almost 50 bites on my legs. We learned to cover ourselves with deet bug spray, but even that didn't completely stop them. It made the last few days of our trip much less enjoyable, so if you go, make sure you bring bug spray and don't stay out around dusk too much. But other than that, the house was gorgeous and perfectly located. The locals were warm and friendly, and the food we had on the island was a real treat.

Greatly enjoyed our time there once we got there. Very reasonable price for practically private beach. Owner and manager very accommodating. The beach and water is safe for young children. I swam and snorkeled out to small local reef and nearby island, barely perceptible currents during tide changes. Things we wished we knew: Suggest bring bulk dry foods, bread, and snacks only and keep it simple, water containing foods and especially drinks and canned foods are too heavy and you will be charged for extra weight on suitcase anyway ( which we found out 50 and 75 dollars), hard alcohol is same price as States , wine and beer more expensive. -meat is crazy expensive, try to get local fish or go fishing yourself. -international weight limit of suitcase is 50 pounds then drops to 40 pounds when you take bahama domestic flight transferring flight. -House has a lot of snorkeling fins of various sizes but only two little kid masks, need to bring own mask and snorkel-- leave fins at home, too big and heavy -Georgetown is tiny, You can see it all walking in about 2 hours. Don't expect nightlife. Try to plan activities on first day for rest of week, very difficult to get any last minute or spontaneous activities scheduled. -and even though lots of websites say children only need birth certificate to enter States and Bahamas, you absolutely need a passport to fly there and back no matter if child is 1 day,1 month old or 1 year old. -Small little collection of books on site, bring one to leave there or/and trade. -all the stereotypes of locals are true. - nice new butcher shop close by sells rotisserie chickens that are delicious, and the red meat ( have I said this already) is crazy expensive, you might want to sneak some hotdogs in. ( officially not allowed, but watched customs for 2 hours waiting on wife to arrive and maybe one or two bags were checked. My two huge bags were not checked even though I was a guy traveling by myself at time and I didn't even use a porter. - they say, use a porter to get through customs unmolested -The locals hate Sandals and will appreciate you for not using them. Say something about how you like to travel locally and not use big corporate travel companies and they will love you but be prepared for long vitriol about sandals. If you ask the price in advance for taxi trip, prices are about the same, if you get in without asking, price will go up. Its cheaper to go to house then to goback to airport. Im just sayin thats all

I booked a last minute trip to get away and get some sun in December and was looking for a place to stay outside of a resort. The casurina house delivered on all expectations. Ashley was super friendly and accommodating to meet our needs last minute. As anywhere in the outer islands, the sand, water, atmosphere is second to none – to have a quaint little place that is so easily assessable yet gives you the feeling you are on your own private beach … well look no further. I went for a run down the beach one morning and the next closest house is about 1Km away and only saw one other couple in the 5 miles. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, very quiet, quaint getaway yet close enough to bars, food etc. this is it. I will def return very soon. Only advice I would give is to bring food from home if you can as daily groceries on any remote island are very expensive.

This is the perfect little beach house on a perfect secluded beach. The owner and property manager were very understanding and accomodating for our late arrival due to Hurricane Isaac. They provided some basics for us because the stores would be closed when we arrived late due to the storm. Nothing fancy here, but a great beach vacation. The house has all the necessities. We highly recommend the Casuarina House for a secluded beach vacation, and hope to return again.

Our family's second stay in 2 years at the beautiful, memorable Casuarina House, which is centrally located to the airport and downtown Georgetown, not to mention that it has its own incredible beach. We are a family of 4, with 2 senior college guys who admittingly say that they have found a piece of heaven (they do not want me to post a review for fear that next year this place will be booked and we will have to go elsewhere).Upon entering from the road where 2 signs on each side of the road read Causaurina HOuse, one drives along a mango edged path and arrives to the breath taking view of an adorable colored Bahamaian styled home with spectacular landscape.Lush pine trees & coconut filled palms surround the property.A pathway of strpping stones leads guests to clean beach. The wrap around porch was used by our sons as they oftened sat on the porch following a few hours of swimming.I enjoyed the use of the outdoor clothesline and hung laundry and wet towels. Washer & dryer are provided and are tucked away in a closet-like area on the porch. The interior is colorful and the open kitchen/living room layout is ideal.Although the house is not large, it is comfortable. The master bedroom faces the ocean and my husband and I enjoyed the morning sunrise with the magical color of the ocean. Our boys (their room did not have an ocean view) amazed us as they would wake up early to go on the porch to watch the sunrise (normally late sleepers). We enjoyed the use of the HAM-like radio to listen to the nearby boat captains converse. The house has cable and our boys were thriled that they could get their ESPN fix at night following dinner. We ate out nightly and didn't use the appliances, except for the coffee maker. Plenty of towels, both beach& bath, were provided. The beds were comfortable and felt like new mattresses.Lots of windows with an incredible view. The property is somewhat secluded, although we did see a few, friendly beach walkers. After we travlled via car climbing on treacherous, rocky roads to famed beaches such as Tropic of Cancer or Coco Plum, our sons felt that Casaurina's beach was tops. There they found a huge (42" diameter) starfish. Some sort of silver fish with a thin black line was a frequent swimming guest with our boys; it was odd to see this group of fish daily swim along side them, as if the fish were expecting us! We only used the kitchen door as opposed to the doorwalls as to not allow in any "no see-ums" or mosquitoes. Magical memories made here!

My husband and I just returned from a one week stay in paradise! This was our first time in Exuma and we couldn't have picked a more perfect house location. The house is in the middle of the island which makes it ideal for getting around and it is about a 3 mile trip from the airport which is very convenient. Because there are no immediate neighbors and situated off the road, the beach is pretty much all yours! The beach is absolutely gorgeous and one of the better ones on the island. This was serenity. During our stay, we only saw about 5 other people using the beach (far from us) so it pretty much was a private beach! The house has enough amenities and is neat and tidy. What you pay for is the gorgeous views, privacy, expanse, and the peace and quiet. I would pick this house over a 5 star hotel any day! My favorite part of the day was waking up and having my coffee on the patio listening to the sound of the sea and watching the sun rise....what more could you ask for! Not sure if it's the time of year but we did encounter a lot of bugs on the island so be sure to bring or buy bug spray (we left plenty for the next guests arriving). We found the locals to be extremely friendly and accomodating. Rent a boat at Minn's for the day and explore the area with a not to miss stop at "Chat and Chill". We will certainly miss Casuarina House but take away beautiful memories. Thank you to Ashley for letting us rent...she was a pleasure to work with. Don't look any further, this is the perfect house to rent in Exuma! Lori and Tom

In a word...........AWESOME!!!!!! My wife and I had a wonderful time at Casuarina House!!!! What a beautiful home by the sea!!! The beach is breathtaking. The sand is the softest white sand and the hues of blue in the water are endless. The Casuarina trees provided the perfect shade from the sun when we had enough in the late afternoons. We are "seasoned travellers" and we found this to be one of the most comfortable well equipped places we have stayed. We loved the wrap around porch and the hanging chairs. We sat and relaxed just looking at the beautiful beach we were on for 10 wonderful days. We ate at the breakfast table on the porch each morning sipping our coffee and watching the sunrise. Ahhhhhhhh....can't wait to come back next year. If you are looking for a "home" by the sea, this is the place. Everything was perfect!!!! The owners paid attention to many details to make everything feel like home. We can't thank you enough!!! Casuarina House was a 10 day blessing for us. Mark & Lisa, Brunswick Ohio

It’s hard to express in words the relaxed, stress relieving, enjoyment we achieved while visiting Casaurina House. We arrived on an early Sunday afternoon and took a cab right to the house. Our plan was to head back into town later that evening to eat at some local restaurant but the peacefulness and beauty of the property got the better of us. In fact, it was literally Tuesday afternoon before the thought of food even crossed our minds again. The position of the house on the property finds you staring out at the sand and water for hours at a time. The wraparound porch allows you to follow the sun every waking hour and just sit and relax. We opened up the house to the ocean breeze and although it was low to mid 80's every day, we never once had to use the air conditioning. The breeze and feeling of safety at night allowed for us to enjoy the fresh air 24/7. The beach and the water were just gorgeous. It's hard for the pictures of the property to do it justice. We walked everyday for hours and we may have seen a dozen people the entire week. When we did encounter people they were overly cordial. In fact, we met such nice locals that we wound up not having to rent a car the entire week. These people insisted on showing us their island and taking us where ever we wanted to go. When you go, visit downtown Georgetown in the afternoon when the school is letting out. The little uniformed kids are so cute and a wealth of information. Visit the Peace and Plenty Inn for a drink at the outside bar overlooking the harbor. Visit the Marina deck for an afternoon and speak to the boat hands from all over the world. Visit the "Fish Fry", which is a location just outside of Georgetown where locals gather at different “shacks” for food and drink. Sam's conch salad is unbelievable and he'll let you prepare the conch if you ask. “Catch a Fire” restaurant has an incredible sunset and good entertainment. However, the property itself is the reason to go. You'll find your daily routine to be up early, sit on the porch swings for a few hours, walk the beach for a few hours, lay on the beach and enjoy the crystal clear blue water for a few hours, and then start all over again. Throw in a snack every now and then and a few beverages more often than that and you'll find yourself wishing for time to just stand still. If you want to relax, clear your head, worry about nothing, enjoy unbelievable privacy, and a view no picture could ever capture, then you just found it.
